Dear Mam, Please find the report of the Webinar conducted on 08th August, 2020.

08/08/2020 Time-4:00pm-6:30pm

Online Webinar on Child Sexual Abuse organized at KIIT Deemed to be

University, Bhubaneswar.

Sakshi NGO in Collaboration with KIIT NSS Bureau has started a series of workshop on the

theme “Child Sexual Abuse and POCSO Act 2012” with the aim of creating a Constitutional

Rights Based Enabled Environment in the context of Gender Equality with a focus on building

awareness about POCSOA 2012 as mandated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports,

Government of India. The second event of the series was conducted on 8th

August 2020 with

NSS Unit, School of Law in association with Sakshi NGO.

The aforementioned Webinar was based on awareness of Child Sexual Abuse and the impact of

the Rakshin Project to curb such social menance. The Rakshin Project is a youth-led movement

across India that aims to address the denial, stigma, shame, and silence associated with gender-

based violence with a focus on preventing child sexual abuse. Dr. Ramaya Lead Trainer of the

Project, introduced everyone to the NGO named Sakshi which aims for gender equity and social

awareness against all the societal stigma. At the beginning of the session, the precautionary

measures of Covid-19 were discussed and beautifully stated the fact that it's important for all of

us to stay at home presently to stay safe. The Webinar focused on the very basic question “are

we really safe at home?”.

The motto of the Rakshin project was to “Recognize, Understand and Resolve”. They want to

aware about the fact that we all must first recognize the victim and issue related to child sexual

abuse, then we have to be empathetic towards their situation and feel it and then the ultimate

initiative has to be how it can be resolved. The concept of Equity and equality was discussed in

terms of status and opportunity with a descriptive video which showed how people in real-life

scenarios are pushed back from accessing their right and how it is our duty to come forward and

help them.

Interestingly several polls were taken throughout the webinar making it an interactive session for

the volunteers. There was a discussion on sexual abuse from behavioural aspects and

also reiterated that how the power to say ‘NO’ is a one-stop solution to all these issues, the

concept of consent was also discussed all these topics were well explained with the help of

several illustrative videos. Important topics such as cybercrime, cyberstalking and sexting

regarding sexual harassment of children and acts such as the POCSO Act and several other

behavioural traits found in victims were also a part of the overall discussion. The reason for such

an effort given by the Sakshi NGO to organise this webinar for the volunteers of the NSS Unit of

KIIT School of Law was to make sure that their message can spread through the youth to the

greater mass and help them reach places at right time for right cause. The Webinar was

concluded with a Q & A session conducted By Mr. Swarnim Sen, Senior Manager of the

Project. Thus, making a safer society for everyone. It was indeed a great awareness session. Ms.

Smriti Singh, Workshop Coordinator extended her gratitude to the KIIT Functionaries, NSS

Programme Coordinator, Professor Kajal Parashar and NSS Programme Officer-Law Unit, Ms.

Jinia Kundu for providing continuous support for this Event.
