Registering for the test

Choose the SAT Test

not the SAT Subject Test.

Fill out all required general information.

• Kittatinny School Code: 311002

• Choose a test date and test center along with a backup.

• Upload a headshot photo of yourself.

• Fill out the questionnaire as if you were a senior and have completed 4 years of English, 4 years of math, etc.

Sending Scores• You get 4 FREE reports sent to colleges of your choice.

• You have the option of sending the scores at a later date for a cost of $11.25 per report for the SAT or $12.00 per report for the ACT.

• Send one report to 9999, the NCAA, if you are interested in Division I or II collegiate sports.

• You must send your scores to the colleges you apply to directly from www.collegeboard.org They will not accept them from KRHS.

• Score Choice gives you the option to choose which scores you send to colleges — in accordance with an institution's stated score-use practice.– If you decide not to use Score Choice, all of your scores will be sent to your

recipients. You should still feel comfortable sending all scores, since most colleges consider a student’s best score.

• Colleges will not combine scores from the new and old test

Sections of Old SAT• Critical Reading

– Multiple-choice questions in the critical reading section:• Sentence completion questions testing vocabulary and sentence structure. (19 questions)

• Passage-based reading questions testing comprehension and inference skills (48 questions)

• Mathematics – Two types of questions:

• Multiple-choice questions (44 questions) • Student-produced response questions appear without answer choices where you will "grid in"

your solution. (10 questions)• Make sure you are familiar with the Calculator Policy before test day.

• Writing – The SAT begins with an essay. You'll be asked to present and support a point of view on a

specific issue.

– The SAT writing section also includes three types of multiple-choice questions: • Improving sentences (25 questions) • Identifying sentence errors (18 questions) • Improving paragraphs (6 questions)

Sections of NEW SAT• Critical Reading

– Multiple-choice questions in the critical reading section based off of non-fiction, global/international issues, History/Social Studies, Science and career related topics.

• Mathematics – Content will be mostly Algebra I and II with some Geometry/Trig.– There is a Non-Calculator Section– Make sure you are familiar with the Calculator Policy before test day.

• Essay section is optional– It is recommended that you take it one time.

• Total score is out of 1600 (CR + M, 800 each section)• Essay is scored 2-8

ACT

ACT• Visit www.actstudent.org to create an account to

register.

• Use the school code 311002 for Kittatinny.

• Once you have created an account click the Register for test button to pick your test date.

• Follow the prompts to complete the registration process.

• You may send your scores using the same username and password you created to sign up for the test.

How many times should I take the SAT/ACT?

• If you plan to go to a 4 year college, you want to the SAT/ACT 1-2 times the Winter/Spring of your Junior year and 1-2 times the Fall of your Senior year.

- January of Junior Year (Old SAT format)- May of Junior Year (New Sat format)- Fall of Senior Year (New Sat format)

• The test cost $54.50 each time you take the SAT and $56.50 each time you take the ACT with Writing. Fee Waivers are available for students who are on free and reduced lunch. See your guidance counselor if you meet the criteria.

Both Collegeboard.org and Actstudent.org have free Question of the Day program where questions can be emailed to you daily.

Prep for the Test

• Practice SAT and ACT tests are offered throughout the school year and summer at KRHS.– There will be a practice New SAT test on December 3rd.

• Kittatinny’s SAT Prep Course- limited space available- Courses are offered in the fall, winter and spring

• Kaplan and Princeton Review have courses for both the SAT and ACT

• Utilize the Collegeboard.org and Actstudent.org website for free test prep.

Important Reminders for both the SAT/ACT tests

• You must bring a printed copy of your admissions ticket and a valid photo ID that is current. Your photo MUST MATCH the picture you uploaded.– The uploaded picture must only be a face forward

headshot of you and only you.

– If you forget to bring your ID, you will not be allowed to test (even if the proctor knows you).

– Your ID must be from the current school year to be valid.

• You must also bring two #2 pencils

• Bring an approved calculator

• BE ON TIME!!!!
