ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Sri Ramasamy Memorial University popu-larly known as SRM University is one of the top ranking universities in India with over 30,000 students and 1,500 faculty, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Management, Medicine and Health sciences, and Science & Humanities. SRM Univer-sity is run by Valliammai Society. The motivating force behind it is our dynamic Chairman and Founder Dr.T.R.Pachamuthu. The Management has been rendering yeoman service to the cause of education in our country. It is a premier co-educational private University in India. After the birth of SRM Univer-sity in the year 2003, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (E&T) was carved out which now con-tains all the schools and departments related to Engineering & Technology, Management and Architecture which are functioning in four cam-puses namely, Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Ramapuram extension University City Campus (all in Tamil Nadu) and Modi Nagar (UP). The main Kattankulathur campus is located in a sylvan campus skirting the National Highway (NH45) about 15 kilometres from Tambaram. The Univer-sity offers courses in 24 branches of Engineering at the Undergraduate level, 32 specialization streams at the postgraduate level in addition to Architecture, MBA and MCA programs. The University offers various research programmes in different disci-plines of Engineering, Science and Humanities, Management, Medical and Health Sciences. The campuses occupy a total area of 210 acres with a built-up area of about 1,70,000 sq.m for laboratories, workshops, library, classrooms, staff quarters, guest house, administration, IT park, post office, bank, gymnasium, indoor games, hotel for boys and girls and other facilities. Further the University has multi purpose auditorium having seating capacity for 3100 persons. Fifteen storey administrative building and fifteen storied IT park has been completed.

SRM University had hosted the prestigious 98th Indian Science Congress, an event of high significance to India. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh inaugurated the congress and 6 Nobel laureates and 8000 Scientist and academicians across the globe participated in this deliberation.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Biotechnology has more than 15 Scientists working in different areas of research and teaching, most of them with overseas experi-ence. The Department has received funding of over 1.5 crores from the DST, Government of India and has also received other funded research projects from, DBT, ICMR, BNRS, WNRF and other Govt. funding agencies. The Department has published more than 100 research papers in peer reviewed journals with high impact factors. It has state-of-the art facilities for Research and Teaching. Student and faculty abroad programmes facilitate international exposure. All the passed out students are placed well in, on campus and off campus recruitments. Most of our students have been admitted into Masters and Doctoral programmes in the US, Germany and other European countries.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

This National conference on Frontiers in Biotechnology will be mainly focusing on the recent development of Biotechnology in the following thrust areas, Medical Biotechnology, Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Fermentation Technology and Environmental Biotechnology. NCFB 2013, is focused at enabling interaction among the students community including research scholars for exchange of research ideas interests paving a meaningful path for collaboration. In addi-tion, this conference will set a stage for expanding the knowledge of students and young research scholars in the related fields of biotechnology.

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORSABSTRACT SUBMISSION

A one page extended abstract of research must be sent by Jan 10, 2013. Should briefly describe the objective, material and methods, results and discussion and few refer-ences and sent electronically (in MS Word, Times New Roman, 12 font size) Abstracts selected for oral / posters will be intimated by Jan 25, 2013.Poster specification : 3ft x 4ftOral Presentation : 10 minutes PPT presentation.(Soft copy to be submitted at the time of inaugura-tion at Registration desk)

Publication The proceedings of the conference with ISBN/ISSN consisting of the selected papers will be released during the conference. One of the authors must be registered for the inclusion of the paper in the proceedings. The specification for the contribut-ing paper are as follows; “Times New Roman” type font, 12pt, one interval with 1 inch top, left, right and bottom margins and non color figures. Type the title in capital letters, bold font centered. In the next line type the author’s name(s) affiliation (in italic) and address (in italics) with one line below, followed by the text of the paper. The maximum no. of pages should be no less than 10, not more than 20 double-spaced pages (excluding references). Extended abstracts will be published with one or two figures/tables (with introduction, materials and methods, results, conclusion and reference.
