Tiernan Sittenfeld with the League of Conservation Voters said While Congressman Reichert at leastacknowledges that global warming is real, its deeply disappointing that he voted for a bill to block theEPA from protecting public health and holding polluters accountable under the Clean Air Act.

The Seattle Times reported that Reichert sometimes has deviated carefully and with controversy

from the partisan playbook. [Seattle Times, 4/7/11]

Taped Talking Secretly About Votes to Appease Environmentalists

At an event, Reichert was taped saying that he feared environmental groups ability to beat him, so hestrategically voted with environmentalists.

Reichert said Look, all of you in this room understand Washington state and you understand the 8th

districtSo you all understand the background that Im working in. First of all, are there any reporters inthe room? Does anybody recognizeare there any people in here that you recognize as strangers? So allof us in here are family, right?...I just want to be honest with you. You know, Jennifer Dunn was anenvironmentalistShe was also pro-choice, I dont know if any of you remember that. But if you want tohold onto this district, there are certain things that you must do. This is a 50/50 districtYou have got topick your battlesThis is a political world that I have been thrust into that I never in my life planned onor intended to be in. And so I am trying to maneuver my fields.

He went on to say And when we get to property rights issue, Wild Sky was a done deal. It was already inits process. It had been worked on for 8 years before I even came to Congress. Jennifer Dunn endorsedwild sky and I followed in the footsteps of her advice. If you look at the Pombo Race in California, withMr. Pombo. He had a 20% victory in California. He was a huge roadblock to the environmentalists. Theycame in, was it two years ago that they lost? Two or four years ago. He lost. The environmental groupcame in with millions of dollars and flipped that 20%, 20 points. They flipped that district. He lost. I onlyhad 2-3% to play with every two years. And I have to raise 3 or 4 million dollars to stay here. Im a 90/10.If you look at my votes. All the TARP votes are no, all the stimulus package votes are no. The healthcarevote is no, three times, the last time I couldnt vote on the reconciliation because they were drilling holesin my head so I couldnt make it. [Audio, Rep.
