WEEKLY REFLECTION
CHRISTMAS DECEMBER 24-25, 2016
Isaiah 9: 1-6; Psalm 96; Titus 2: 11-14; Luke 2: 1-14
From today’s Gospel reading:
"In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus
that the whole world should be enrolled."
Reflection by Jude Siciliano, OP:
There is another census happening in Luke’s account. God has come to take flesh and be counted as one of us. The angels are not on Caesar’s side of domination and rule by force; they announce that the almighty God has come to be with us and walk among us. Where? In an insignif-icant town, in the backwater called Bethlehem. And with us, in the or-dinary and seeming-insignificant events of our daily lives.
So we ask ourselves:
Have we discovered the birth of Christ in new places in our lives?
How does that discovery affect our daily thoughts and actions?

Thank You to everyone that made our An-gel Tree a success again this year. Your generosity provided approximately 600 gifts for 150 children who may not have had anything under the tree this year. Catholic Charities is always amazed and grateful for the contributions of "time and treasure" that St Peter's dedicates to the "Gifts for God's Children" program. This is truly a work of stewardship and evangelization.
A BIG Note of Thanks to our talented musi-
cians - of ALL ages – for enriching our Christ-
mas Liturgies with their gifts, and to those in
the pew who joined in the song! St. Peter Choir
& Cantors welcomes new members at any time; instru-
mentalists are invited to share their playing skills, too.
Please contact Jane at [email protected] It is
through your efforts we continue the rich heritage of mu-
sical prayer that is such an important part of our parish!
CHRISTMAS AT ST. AUGUSTINE
On Thursday, December 15th an amazing Christmas
dinner was provided for the students and their families
at St Augustine Jubilee School. About 100 children and
family members attended the dinner. A HUGE Thank
You to the St Augustine weekly tutors, The Women's
Guild, and all of the St Peter parishioners who assisted
in making this a wonderful evening.
The Jubilee School of St. Augustine is supported by St. Peter as part of our church's social outreach program. St. Augustine is asking for help with their 5th and 6th grade basketball home games. They need 1-2 people to collect money at the door and to help with the conces-sions. If you can help, please contact Dawn Stevens, [email protected] or Norma Montesi, [email protected]. This is a great service hours project and is another way to be involved in the work of this very special school!
Here is their schedule:
A Christmas Gift for You!
This week at all the Christmas Masses, each
family will receive a copy of the book Resist-
ing Happiness by Matthew Kelly. We are
very grateful to the Dynamic Catholic Insti-
tute and the Morris family for this special
gift! “A true story about why we sabotage our-
selves, feel overwhelmed, set aside our dreams, and lack
of courage to simply be ourselves...and how to start choos-
ing happiness again!”

and is the process for adults to become Catholic Chris-
tians. Everyone is welcome---okay to come just to ex-
plore more about the Catholic Church. More information

mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the
Church, but changed the course of western civilization.
Jan. 8, 15 - G.K. Chesterton
Jan. 22, 29 – St. Thomas Aquinas
Feb. 5, 12 – Michelangelo
The Bible and the Church Fathers
(Feb. 26 – April 2) Pope Benedict XVI said that the Fathers “are primarily and essentially commentators on sacred Scrip-ture.” (Verbum Domini) Most importantly, the Fathers lead us into the mysteries of the Word of God and serve as examples for how we should live out those mysteries today. Who are the Church Fathers and what did they believe and teach? This Lent, come join us for a study of The Bible and the Church Fathers. We will encounter the great teachers of the faith, their writings, their sto-ries, and even their quirks! We’ll discuss their times, their culture, and even the heresies and heretics they had to battle. Not merely a historical overview of the early Church, this study focuses on how the Fathers help u s t o u n d e r s t a n d t h e w o r d s o f S c r i p t u r e .
The St. Peter Young Adults Group serves people in their 20s and 30s. We offer a great selection of activi-ties, including weekly men's and women's groups, monthly Fellowship Night, group adoration, social activi-ties and more. Contact Kathleen Hyland at [email protected]. We can't wait to meet you!

In honor of
During this Christmas Season, the chalices and ciborium used for Mass are from our par-ish collection of antiquities.
~ The Antependium covering the front of the high altar was made by Mrs. Catherine Boyle, the great grandmother of Judge Joe Jones. She did not have a pattern, only images of Catho-lic symbols popular at that time.
~ The Dominican priests and staff of St. Peter take this time to say “Thank You” for your generosity during the year and especially dur-ing this Holy Season.
~ A special thanks to Patty & Tim Anderson for their time and creative talents in beautifying the church. It is all done for the glory of the Lord.
