WorldSkills India Finalists in the Beauty Therapy skill
announced
All 21 candidates at the National Selection received placement
with VLCC, 5 finalists shortlisted to compete for the winner’s
title
The winner will be sent to WorldSkills 2015 Sao Paulo
The finalists will be given specialised industry training and
will compete in WorldSkills 2015 to be held in Sao Paulo 2015
New Delhi, September 26, 2014: The National Selection of the
WorldSkills India in the ‘beauty therapy’ category today ended in
great opportunities and hope, for all the 21 semi-finalists. While
the 5 finalists will be competing at the final selection to
represent India at the WorldSkills International Competition 2015;
all the 21 contestants were offered a placement by VLCC at the
centre of their choice. The whole process of selecting the best of
candidates took more than 6 months.
The Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&W SSC), a
not for profit organization promoted by CII, with financial support
from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), had
conducted this national level competition over the last three days
in New Delhi. The national level round commenced on September 23,
2014 and ended on 25th September with 5 finalists.
The competition was opened by Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC
and Vandana Luthra, Chairperson, B&W SSC, at the Clarion Hotel,
by handing over the baton to the head of Jury, Dr. Blossom Kochhar,
Founder, Blossom Kocchar Group of Companies.
This competition had 21 contestants who were chosen as the
winners of the regional level competitions held across North,
South, North- East and West zones. Out of these, following 5
candidates have been declared winners of the National
Competition:
1. Dhruti Barad – West Zone
2. Neha Chande – West Zone
3. Vaghisha Raj – North Zone
4. Ravina Parmar – West Zone
5. Manashi Bharati – South Zone
All five of them will undergo specialized industry training for
5 - 6 months, before they compete at the final selections. The
winner of the finals will represent India at the WorldSkills
International Competition, Sao Paulo, Brazil in August 2015.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC said,
“I am thrilled to experience such excitement and amazingly sharp
skills in our youth. There is huge potential and talent that we see
here. The WorldSkills competitions provide a fantastic opportunity
to benchmark skills within a country, against the rest of the
world. At all levels, competitors are benchmarked against their
peers – locally, nationally and internationally. The primary
aim of the competition is to elevate the level of skills in young
people and demonstrate that careers based on the vocational
education are viable first choice career options. WorldSkills
competitors also act as wonderful ambassadors for their respective
trades, their employers and their countries.”
“Moreover, with the rapid increase in the disposable income
taking place in our country, the beauty and wellness industry is
expected to grow at a high rate. Hence, competitions such as these
will only encourage the youth of our country to come forward and
showcase their skills to the world in this domain. We are investing
in the training of our contingent and are certain that they will
make us proud at the global level.” he further added.
Speaking about the competition, VLCC Founder &
Vice-Chairperson and Chairperson, Beauty & Wellness Sector
Skill Council, Mrs. Vandana Luthra said, "As an organization
committed to the skills cause to promote social inclusion and youth
empowerment in India, we feel the WorldSkills Competition provides
the best platform to the young men and women of this country to
display what they are capable of and also benchmark themselves
against their counterparts from the rest of the
world,” said.
“Participation of our youth in competitions such as WorldSkills
could help erase concerns around career prospects post gaining a
vocational qualification and will make our young boys and girls
voluntarily enrol for skill development-related courses.”
"VLCC, which has been actively engaged in the WorldSkills India
selection process, will also be involved in the training and
mentoring of the Indian contingent for the skill of Beauty Therapy
at the WorldSkills International 2015, enabling our contestants to
make India proud at the competition,” Mrs. Luthra added.
The Beauty Therapy competition for WorldSkills India is an
initiative of NSDC, in partnership with CII and Beauty &
Wellness Sector Skill Council. The competition has received a huge
response from the industry. Big players like Aroma Magic, LTA
School of Beauty, VLCC, JCKRC, Make Up Forever, etc. have come
forward to make this event a success.
About WorldSkills International (WSI)
WorldSkills International (WSI) is a not-for-profit association
set up in 1950 to promote Vocational Education and Training (VET)
in countries across the globe. It aims to spread awareness about
the essential contribution of skills and high standards of
competence, to the achievement of economic success and individual
fulfilment, through the organisation of the biennial WorldSkills
International.
WorldSkills International is the largest skill competition in
the world. It is held once every two years in one of the WSI member
countries. More than 1000 contestants below the age of 23, compete
for gold, silver and bronze medals, in over 46 skills. The
competition is held over a span of four days. The next WorldSkills
International Competition (WSI) is being held at Sao Paulo, Brazil
in August, 2015.
About WorldSkills India
WorldSkills India is an initiative of the National Skill
Development Corporation (NSDC), which has been leading India's
participation at WorldSkills International competitions since
2011.
WorldSkills India organized its first ever National Competition
in Balewadi Stadium Pune, from 7th – 9th April, 2013, where 24
candidates were selected in 22 skills. These candidates went
through a rigorous training program for months before they
represented India at WorldSkills International at Leipzig Germany,
in July 2013. Three candidates from India won medallion of
excellence at the event – which are Bhabesh Jana for Business and
Jewellery Designing, Arun Raj Balasubramanium for Graphic Design
Technology and Sarthak Jain for IT Software Solutions. They were
also felicitated by the former Finance Minister of India, Shri P.
Chidambaram on 16th August 2013 at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.
The key objectives of WorldSkills India are -
• Promulgate skill development and up skilling across nation and
in the society and motivate the youth to pursue vocational
education
• Facilitate advance learning in various skills and creating an
industry ready reserve of skilled workforce
• Organize local, regional, national and international skills
competitions and also host international competitions by garnering
the required support through corporate partners
• Partner Industry by contributing to productivity improvements
raising the standard of work skills locally, nationally and
globally
• Establish a long-term association with the WorldSkills
International (WSI) secretariat alongside the Government of India,
State Governments and registered vocational skills training and
awarding bodies
