Earn and Learn Stickers
This week is the last week
for the Woolworths Earn
and Learn Stickers.
Berinba has a box located at
Yass Woolworths and in the
School front foyer.
Principal’s Report
We may be approaching the half way mark in the
schooling year but we are busier than ever. Teachers are
currently in the last stages of writing your children’s half
yearly reports. These reports give us the chance to not
only share your child’s success with you but give you an
insight into what your children spend their time on at
school. Our teachers spend a considerable amount of
time writing these and we are constantly reviewing our
reporting processes. Berinba would love to receive any
feedback you may like to share with the school in regard
to the reporting process we have in place. Reports will be
home in the last week of term, with parent and teacher
interviews scheduled for week 2 next term.
With winter here we are collecting a pile of lost clothing.
We do try to reunite children with their lost jackets and
jumpers which is made easier if clothing is labelled. If
your child has lost a jumper or jacket pop into the lost
property room and have a look. Lost property is located
in the sick bay room near the front office.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed stickers
towards Berinba for the Earn and Learn promotion. This
promotion allows us to buy some much needed resources
for our classrooms. This is the last week you can hand the
stickers in so if you are like me and have a stash sitting at
home, make sure you drop them in to the box located in
the front office before Friday.

Writers Camp
On Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of June was the Binit Binit Learning Community Writers camp. When we arrived, we heard from professional poet, comedian and author, Harry Laing. He taught us that we could write about literally anything. We wrote poems about the dreams of whiteboards and school carpets, poems about playing sport and poems about how eyeballs and hands would move around without the rest of the body. Then we split into groups to do writing workshops and camp activities like archery and Frisbee Golf. One of the workshops was about Poetry Devices such as personification and imagery. The other was about free verse and formula poems. After that we had free poetry writing and a campfire. On Friday we spent the day writing and publishing our poetry until Robyn Sykes, an award winning poet, taught us how to present poetry and to entertain the people listening to it. We got the chance to act out ‘The Man from Ironbark’. We all enjoyed Writers Camp and wrote excellent poems.
By Tashi Phillips Year 6
When I went to Writers Camp we did lessons about poetry writing and we also did archery, Frisbee golf and a movie night. We learnt about Free Verse Poems and using alliteration. I heard two poets talk about poems and that they have been writing poems all their life. At night we had a camp fire.
On the last day we had time to write a poem in any format. I did an acrostic poem, a shape poem and a line poem. My favourite part was that I was able to write lots different types of poems and it was a lot of fun and plenty to eat.
