WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Summer 2: Week beginning 11th June, 2018 At Shustoke School we are fully committed to safeguarding, and the welfare of our children and are vigilant in ensuring staff are fully trained in child protection and safeguarding procedures. REMINDERS for the week beginning Monday 11 th June: Monday - Marle Hall residential visit for Year 6 children Y1 Phonics Screening Wednesday - Individual meetings for new Reception parents Thursday - Individual meetings for new Reception parents SPORTS DAY This year, our Sports Day is planned for the afternoon of Friday 22 nd June at 1.30pm. We are all hoping that the weather will be dry so that it will be a fabulous event for everyone on the date planned. For the benefit of parents new to our school community, we thought it would be a good idea to let you know our procedures. Parents and grandparents are very welcome to join us. After the event, in the interest of safeguarding, children will return to their classrooms and will be dismissed from there so that staff may ensure a safe handover. Unfortunately, the field does get very waterlogged after heavy rain, and it can take several days for it to be deemed safe again and for the field to be remarked. If we do have to cancel Sports Day, a decision will be made by 10am on Friday 22nd, and parents will be informed by text message. Our reserve Sports Day is on Monday 2 nd July when we will follow the same procedures. If, after two attempts we haven’t been able to hold Sports Day, we will take any available opportunity thereafter for the children to have this experience but this obviously means that we will only be able to let parents know with very short notice. Reminder If your DBS certificate is coming up to twelve months old, please apply for a new one if you wish to continue to help out in school. Thank you. Dates for the School Bank: 22nd June 6th July 20th July

ATTENDANCE

Overall school attendance for the week beginning 21st May was 93.98%: Reception Class: 94.84% Class One: 92.67% Class Two: 96%

Class Three: 93.67% Class Four: 90.65% Class Five: 98.75% Class Six: 93.48%

Thank you to all parents for supporting our school attendance. In order for attendance to be good, it needs to be above 95.9%. Attendance is considered to be merely satisfactory if it is 95%. If a child’s attendance falls below 90% they will be classed as a persistent absentee and have to be reported to the DFE. A guide for parents on attendance has been posted on the school’s website.

To log into SchoolMoney, visit the website www.eduspot.co.uk and click on the sign in button in the top right hand corner. In the drop down, select the SchoolMoney Parent Login option and this will send you through to a page where you need to enter your mobile number, email address, the password we have sent to you and your child’s first name.

HOMETIME ARRANGEMENTS

If you are making any changes to your child’s usual home time arrangements,

such as a person not known to school collecting, you MUST inform School prior

to their collection. In the interest of your child’s safety, School will not allow

children to be collected by people who are not known to us.

Thank you.

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Summer 2: Week beginning 11th June, 2018

At Shustoke School we are fully committed to safeguarding, and the welfare of our children and are vigilant in ensuring staff are fully trained in child protection and safeguarding procedures.

WATER BOTTLES IN SCHOOL

Please ensure that your child has a named, clean water bottle filled with fresh water (not juice/squash) at school every day for consumption in the classroom.

Children may, if they wish bring a small carton of milk, juice or squash (never fizzy drinks) for playtime and lunchtime – these should be kept in their school bag or in their sandwich box. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

HEALTH & SAFETY REMINDER If your child needs to have medication administered by staff at school, it is important that an authorisation form is completed and that the medicine is clearly labelled. Parents can access an electronic copy of the schools website on the ‘Parent’ page, under the Medical Matters heading. To avoid spreading infections throughout the whole of school, may we remind you that if your child has had an upset tummy or a sickness bug, please DO NOT send them back into School until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness or upset tummy. Thank you. We have had several cases of head lice infestation in school. Please examine your child’s head and remember that head lice actually prefer clean hair so the possibility of infection is absolutely no reflection on a family’s standard of hygiene.

Parking Please always park courteously around school, do not block private driveways. Please DO NOT double-park, as emergency vehicles need access to the village at all times. Please do not use the Staff car park at the start or end of the day. In addition, please DO NOT pull onto grass verges and restrict walkways. To avoid unnecessary accidents, please DO NOT drive at excessive speed when entering or exiting the Parish car park or surrounding areas of School. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

All children need a pair of black plimsolls for indoor PE.

Please could you ensure that children always have an outdoor coat in school?

Thank you.
