Attendance

Our whole school attendance so far for this year is 95.46%. The IOW council Education & Inclusion team will be working with us to help us hit the target of 96% and will be closely monitoring pupils whose attendance gives cause for concern. As a school we are legally obliged to monitor attendance and must take action when a child’s attendance drops below the level required by the government. We work closely with Education & Inclusion who advise us on the actions that should be taken. We understand that you may feel frustrated if your child has been absent because of illness, but as a school Ofsted and the Department for Education expect us to be pro-active in our action on attendance. Education Welfare Officers will be completing late sweeps before the Christmas holidays. Absence from school If your child will be absent from school you should contact the school by 9.00am to inform us of the reason for their absence. In accordance with Ofsted and Department for Education requirements, we also require a written reason for the absence on their return to school, this can be a letter, email, text or completion of an absence form. All medical appointments must also be supported by a letter/appointment card/proof of appointment. If we do not receive written reasons for absence we are required to record the absence as unauthorised.

A -There are people in school with nut allergies, reactions can occur if they inhale allergen particles in the air, or if they come into contact with a contaminated item (for example, drinking from someone else’s cup). Q - What happens if someone has an allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)?

A - The symptoms of a food allergy may include a rash anywhere on the body, or a tingling or itchy feeling in the mouth. More serious symptoms may include: Swelling in the face, throat and/or mouth, difficulty breathing, severe asthma, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. In extreme cases there could be a dramatic fall in blood pressure (anaphylactic shock). The person may become weak and floppy and may have a sense of something terrible happening. This may lead to collapse and unconsciousness. On rare occasions, death can occur.
