Instrument Panel



REMOVAL

All vehicles

1. If equipped, remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console - Floor .

2. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Steering Column .

3. Remove and discard the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.




4. Detach the upper steering column shaft from the steering column.

Vehicles with a manual transmission

5. Remove the shift lever and boot. For additional information, refer to Manual TransaxleTransmission Tremec 5-Speed.

All vehicles

6. Remove the RH and LH A-pillar trim panels and the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels. Foradditional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation .

7. Position aside the RH and LH front door weatherstrips.

8. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel side trim panels.

9. Remove the parking brake release handle bolt and position aside the parking brake releasehandle.

10. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.

Pull the steering column opening trim panel rearward to release the steering column openingtrim panel retaining clips.

Vehicles with an automatic transmission

11. Remove the selector lever cable from the steering column.

Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column selector lever.Remove the selector lever cable from the steering column bracket.




All vehicles

12. Disconnect the 3 wiring harness electrical connectors located under the steering column openingpanel.




13. If equipped, disconnect the satellite radio antenna connector located under the steering columnopening panel.




14. Remove the RH lower insulator panel.

Remove the 2 pushpin retainers.

15. Disconnect the antenna cable and the bulkhead electrical connector.




16. Disconnect the 2 connectors from the Smart Junction Box(SJB).




17. Lower the glove compartment.

1. Open the glove compartment.

2. Press the glove compartment stop inward and lower the glove compartment.




18. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors attached to the plenum chamber.




19. Close the glove compartment.

1. Press the glove compartment stop inward and raise the glove compartment.





20. Remove the instrument panel lower center support bracket and bolts.




21. Remove the instrument panel upper cowl bolt covers.

NOTE: The 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts are located

under the upper cowl bolt covers. They are visible looking



through the windshield into the vehicle. An extension will be

needed for removal.

22. Remove the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.

23. Remove the LH door weather shield.

Remove the 4 LH door weather shield pin-type retainers.


24. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.




NOTE: Place tape on the LH front door as shown in

illustration to avoid damage to the paint.

25. Place tape on the LH front door.




26. Remove the LH instrument panel side bolt.

27. Remove the RH and LH instrument panel bolts.

NOTE: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an

assistant is required when carrying out this step.

NOTE: Make sure that all electrical connectors and

wiring are positioned out of the way before removing the

instrument panel.

28. Remove the instrument panel.

INSTALLATION

All vehicles

1.



NOTE: To avoid damage to the instrument panel, an

assistant is required when carrying out this step.

NOTE: Make sure all electrical connectors and wiring are

correctly routed when installing the instrument panel.

Install the instrument panel.

2. Install the RH and LH instrument panel bolts.

Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

3.

NOTE: Use LH instrument panel side bolt guide to

prevent the LH instrument panel side bolt from falling into

the lower cowl panel.

Install the LH instrument panel side bolt.Install the LH instrument panel side bolt guide (part number 54021A08) into the LHinstrument panel side bolt opening.Install the LH instrument panel side bolt into the LH instrument panel.


4. Remove the tape from the LH front door.




5. Install the LH instrument panel side bolt cover.




6. Install the LH door weather shield.

Install the 4 LH door weather shield pin-type retainers.




7. Install the 3 instrument panel upper cowl bolts.


8. Install the instrument panel upper cowl bolt covers.

9. Install the instrument panel lower center support bracket and bolts.

Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).




10. Lower the glove compartment.

1. Open the glove compartment.

2. Press the glove compartment stop inward and lower the glove compartment.




11. Connect the 2 electrical connectors attached to the plenum chamber.





1. Press the glove compartment stop inward and raise the glove compartment.





13. Connect the 2 connectors to the SJB.




14. Connect the antenna cable and the bulkhead electrical connector.




15. Install the RH lower insulator panel.

Install the 2 pushpin retainers.




16. Connect the 3 wiring harness electrical connectors located under the steering column openingpanel.




17. If equipped, connect the satellite radio antenna connector located under the steering columnopening panel.




Vehicles with an automatic transmission

18. Install the selector lever cable to the steering column.

Connect the selector lever cable to the steering column selector lever.Install the selector lever cable to the steering column bracket.




All vehicles

19. Install the steering column opening trim panel.

Make sure to align the trim panel retaining clips to the adjacent retaining clip holes.

20. Install the parking brake release handle and bolt.

Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).

21. Install the RH and LH instrument panel side trim panels.


22. Install the RH and LH A-pillar trim panels and the RH and LH lower cowl trim panels. Foradditional information, refer to Interior Trim and Ornamentation .

23. Install the RH and LH front door weatherstrips.

Vehicles with a manual transmission

24. Install the shift lever and boot. For additional information, refer to Manual Transaxle TransmissionTremec 5-Speed.



All vehicles

25. Install the upper steering column shaft to the steering column.

26. Install the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to Steering Column .

27. Install a new upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt.



28. If equipped, install the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console - Floor .

Instrument Cluster Finish Panel



REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Position the steering column in the downward and rearward position.



2. Remove the upper instrument panel center finish panel. For additional information, refer toInstrument Panel Finish Panel - Center, Upper .


4. Remove the 4 instrument cluster finish panel screws.

Remove the tree type retainers for the gap hider.

5. Remove the instrument cluster finish panel.

If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.

6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.


Instrument Panel Finish Panel - Center, Upper




1. Remove the upper instrument panel center finish panel screw covers.

If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.




2. Remove the 2 upper instrument panel center finish panel screws and the upper instrument panelcenter finish panel.

Disconnect the electrical connectors.





Make sure the clear mylar anti-squeak tape is still on the LH edge.

1. If equipped, remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console - Floor .

2. Remove the upper instrument panel center finish panel. For additional information, refer to InstrumentPanel Finish Panel - Center, Upper .


Pull rearward on the bottom edge.




4. Remove the lower instrument panel center finish panel screw.




5. Remove the 2 lower instrument panel center finish panel screws.




Vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission

6. Open the cup holder.




7. Remove the 2 cup holder screws.

1. Remove the 2 lower rear console bolts.

Position the passengers side inboard seat track cover aside to access the bolt.To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).

2. Remove the bolt covers and the lower 2 center console bolts.

To install, tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb-In).

3. Remove the bolt covers and the lower 2 front console bolts.




4. Open the console lid and remove the storage trays.

5. Using a suitable tool, pry up from the rear and remove the console finish panel.

6. Remove the 2 upper console bolts.


7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the right side of the floor console and remove the floorconsole.


Console - Overhead

1. Pull the rear edge of the overhead console downward, at the locations shown in illustrations, andthen pull rearward.




2. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

3. Remove the overhead console.


Make sure to align the overhead console retaining clips to the adjacent clip holes.

Storage Compartment - Upper



1. Remove the center upper instrument panel finish panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Finish Panel - Center,Upper .

2. Remove the instrument panel speaker. Refer to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony 8-Inch(203 mm) Touchscreen .



3. Remove the 4 upper storage compartment bolts and the upper storage compartment.

Disconnect the electrical connector.To install, tighten to 2.5 Nm (23 lb-in).


4. Remove the 6 bolts and the upper storage compartment lid.

To install, tighten to 2.5 Nm (23 lb-in).

5. Disconnect the electrical connector.

1. Connect the electrical connector and push the new power point socket into the retainer.

Principles Of Operation

Dimmable Backlighting When the parking lamps are on, the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) monitors the input fromthe instrument panel dimmer switch. The SCCM sends a message over the High Speed Controller AreaNetwork (HS-CAN) to the Body Control Module (BCM) relaying the instrument panel dimmer switchinput. Based on the input from the instrument panel dimmer switch, the BCM sends a voltage to thedimmable switches. The BCM sends a message over the HS-CAN to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)and TBC module, and over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) to the Audio FrontControl Module (ACM) (AM/FM/CD only), and HVAC module to indicate the backlighting intensity level.If the receiving module receives invalid backlighting data from the BCM for 5 seconds or less, thereceiving module defaults the backlighting to the last setting. If the receiving module does not receivethe backlighting status message from the BCM or if the data received is deemed invalid for more than 5seconds, the receiving module sets a missing message related DTC in continuous memory and defaultsthe backlighting to full nighttime intensity.Non-Dimmable Backlighting When the accessory delay relay is energized, switched voltage is supplied to the door lock, rear heatedseat switches and window control switches.Field-Effect Transistor (FET) Protection A Field-Effect Transistor (FET) is a type of transistor that, when used with module software, can be usedto monitor and control current flow on module outputs. The FET protection strategy prevents moduledamage in the event of excessive current flow.The BCM utilizes an FET protective circuit strategy for many of its outputs (for example, a headlampoutput circuit). Output loads (current level) are monitored for excessive current (typically short circuits)and are shut down (turns off the voltage or ground provided by the module) when a fault event isdetected. A short circuit DTC is stored at the fault event and a cumulative counter is started.When the demand for the output is no longer present, the module resets the FET protection to allow thecircuit to function. The next time the driver requests a circuit to activate that has been shut down by aprevious short (FET protection) and the circuit is still shorted, the FET protection shuts off the circuitagain and the cumulative counter advances.



When the excessive circuit load occurs often enough, the module shuts down the output until a repairprocedure is carried out. Each FET protected circuit has 3 predefined levels of short circuit tolerancebased on the harmful effect of each circuit fault on the FET and the ability of the FET to withstand it. Amodule lifetime level of fault events is established based upon the durability of the FET. If the totaltolerance level is determined to be 600 fault events, the 3 predefined levels would be 200, 400 and 600fault events.When each tolerance level is reached, the short circuit DTC that was stored on the first failure cannot becleared by the clear the continuous DTCs command. The module does not allow this code to be clearedor the circuit restored to normal operation until a successful self-test proves that the fault has beenrepaired. Once the fault has been repaired, the DTC's cleared and a self-test has successfullycompleted (no on-demand DTCs present), the circuit function returns.When each level is reached, the DTC associated with the short circuit sets along with DTC U1000:00.These DTCs can be cleared using the module on-demand self-test, then the Clear DTC operation on thescan tool (if the on-demand test shows the fault corrected). The module never resets the fault eventcounter to zero and continues to advance the fault event counter as short circuit fault events occur.If the number of short circuit fault events reach the third level, then DTCs U1000:00 and U3000:49 setalong with the associated short circuit DTC. DTC U3000:49 cannot be cleared and the module must bereplaced after the repair.The BCM FET protected output circuit for the instrument cluster and panel illumination system is thedimmable switch output circuit.

Inspection And Verification

1. Verify the customer concern.

2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage.Visual Inspection Chart

3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible)before proceeding to the next step.

software.

4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).

NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM)

prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are



provided to the VCM.

5. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM :Check the VCM connection to the vehicle.Check the scan tool connection to the VCM.Refer to Module Communications Network , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose nopower to the scan tool.

6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:

Verify the ignition key is in the ON position.Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.Refer to Module Communications Network to diagnose no response from the PCM.

7. Carry out the network test.

If the scan tool responds with no communication with one or more modules, refer to ModuleCommunications Network .If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.

8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the BCM.

9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC Charts . For all other DTCs, refer tothe Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in Multifunction Electronic Modules . If no DTCs relatedto the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart .

Pinpoint Tests

Pinpoint Test A: All Dimmable Illumination Does Not Dim

Refer to Cluster and Panel Illumination , for schematic and connector information.Normal Operation The Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) sends voltage signals to the instrument panel dimmerswitch (one for dim up, one for dim down, one for courtesy lamp request). When the parking lamps areon, the dimmable backlighting intensity can be changed by pressing the instrument panel dimmer switchto the first detent up or first detent down. When the instrument panel dimmer switch is placed in the firstdetent up or down, the corresponding input signal is routed back to the SCCM to an internal groundindicating a request to turn the dimmable lighting up or down. The SCCM retains the last brightnesssetting between uses.Based on the input received from the instrument panel dimmer switch, the SCCM sends a message overthe network to the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM sends a network message to the backlitmodules indicating the backlighting intensity level and a voltage to the non-networked dimmableillumination sources.When the instrument panel dimmer switch is pressed to the second detent, the dome lamp request inputcircuit is routed to ground in addition to the dimmer up or dimmer down input circuit. The SCCM needs adimmer up/down input circuit and the dome lamp request input circuit to turn the courtesy lamps on or offfrom the instrument panel dimmer switch.If the SCCM detects a concern with the dim up, dim down or the dome lamp request input circuit, thebacklighting defaults to full nighttime brightness.The instrument panel dimmer switch is a momentary contact switch.

DTC B1124:09 (Lamp Fade Control: Component Failure) - a continuous and on-demand DTC thatsets when the SCCM detects a short to ground from the dim up, dim down or dome lamp requestinput circuits.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

Wiring, terminals or connectorsInstrument panel dimmer switchSCCM

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making

measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may

damage the connector.

A1 CHECK THE RECORDED RESULTS FROM THE SCCM ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST Ignition OFF.



Review the recorded results from the SCCM on-demand self-test.Is DTC B1124:09 present?

Yes GO to A2.

No GO to A4.

A2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065 .Ignition ON.Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SCCM Self-Test.Clear the DTCs and repeat the SCCM self-test.

Is on-demand DTC B1124:09 still present?

Yes GO to A3.

No INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to Instrument Panel DimmerSwitch . TEST the system for normal operation.

A3 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH INPUT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGROUND

Ignition OFF.Disconnect: SCCM C2414A .Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch, harness side andground as follows:

Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?

Yes GO to A4.

No REPAIR the circuit in question for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

A4 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065 .Carry out the instrument panel dimmer switch component test. Refer to Component Testingfor component testing.

Is the instrument panel dimmer switch OK?

Yes GO to A5.

No INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. REFER to Instrument Panel DimmerSwitch . TEST the system for normal operation.

A5 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH DIM UP AND DIM DOWN INPUTCIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE

Ignition ON.Measure the voltage between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-7 , circuit CLN56(BN/VT), harness side and ground; and between the instrument panel dimmer switchC2065-3 , circuit CLN55 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.




Are the voltages greater than 5 volts?

Yes GO to A7.

No GO to A6.

A6 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH DIM UP AND DIM DOWN CIRCUITSFOR AN OPEN

Ignition OFF.Disconnect: SCCM C2414A .Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-7 , circuitCLN56 (BN/VT), harness side and the SCCM C2414A-19 , circuit CLN56 (BN/VT), harnessside.




Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-3 , circuitCLN55 (YE/VT), harness side and the SCCM C2414A-6 , circuit CLN55 (YE/VT), harnessside.




Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes GO to A9.

No REPAIR the circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

A7 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH INPUT AND RETURN CIRCUITSFOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

Ignition OFF.Disconnect: SCCM C2414A .Ignition ON.Measure the voltage between the instrument panel dimmer switch, harness side and groundas follows:

Is any voltage present?

Yes REPAIR the circuit in question for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normal operation.

No GO to A8.



A8 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF.Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch C2065-4 , circuitRLN29 (WH/OG), harness side and the SCCM C2414A-26 , circuit RLN29 (WH/OG),harness side.


Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to A9.

No REPAIR the circuit for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

A9 CHECK FOR CORRECT SCCM OPERATION Connect all disconnected connectors.Disconnect all the SCCM connectors.Check for:

corrosiondamaged pinspushed-out pins

Connect all the SCCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to Steering Column Switches . TEST the system for normaloperation.

No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by aloose or corroded connector. RUN the on-demand self-test (required to clear certain DTCs).CORRECT any unresolved DTCs. CLEAR all DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.



Pinpoint Test B: All Dimmable Non-Networked Illumination Is Inoperative

Refer to Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.Normal Operation When the parking lamps are on, the Body Control Module (BCM) provides voltage to the non-networkeddimmable illumination sources based on the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) illuminationmessages that are sent over the network to the BCM.

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions

U1000:00 - SolidState DriverProtection Activated- Driver Disabled: NoSub TypeInformation

A continuous DTC that sets when the BCM has temporarily shut down the outputdriver. The module has temporarily disabled the backlighting output because anexcessive current draw exists (such as a short to ground). The BCM cannotenable the backlighting output until the cause of the short is corrected, the DTCshave been cleared and a successful self-test is run.

U3000:49 - ControlModule: InternalElectrical Failure

A continuous DTC that sets when the BCM has permanently shut down theoutput driver. The module has permanently disabled the backlighting outputbecause an excessive current draw fault (such as a short to ground) hasexceeded the limits that the BCM can withstand. The cause of the excessivecurrent draw MUST be corrected before a new BCM is installed.

B1315:11 -Backlighting (NonReflective Controls)Illumination Output:Circuit Short Ground

A continuous and on-demand DTC that sets when the BCM detects a short toground from the backlighting output circuit. This DTC also sets when fuse 12(15A) has failed or is removed.

B1315:15 -Backlighting (NonReflective Controls)Illumination Output:Circuit Short Batteryor Open

An on-demand DTC that sets when the BCM detects an open from thebacklighting output circuit.

B1 CHECK FOR RECORDED BCM DTCs FROM THE ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST Use the recorded results from the BCM self-test.

Is DTC B1315:15 present?

Yes GO to B2.



No VERIFY the SJB fuse 12 (15A) is OK. If OK, GO to B2. If not OK, REFER to the OEMELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of thecircuit short. After the repair:If no DTCs are present, TEST the system for normal operation.If DTC U1000:00 is present, CLEAR the DTCs and REPEAT the self-test (required to enable the backlighting output driver if DTC U1000:00 is present). TESTthe system for normal operation. If DTC U3000:49 is present, INSTALL a new BCM.REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules . TEST the system for normal operation.

B2 BYPASS THE BCM Ignition OFF.Disconnect: BCM C2280B .

NOTE: If DTC U3000:49 is present, install a new BCM.

Refer to Multifunction Electronic Modules . Test the system

for normal operation.

NOTE: If DTC U1000:00 is present, clear the DTCs

and repeat the self-test (required to enable the

courtesy lamp output driver if DTC U1000:00 is

present). Test the system for normal operation.

NOTE: If no DTCs are present, test the system for

normal operation.

NOTE: If the jumper wire fails, refer to the OEM

ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to

identify the possible causes of the circuit short. After the

repair:

Connect a fused jumper wire between the BCM C2280B-40 , circuit VLN04 (VT/GY) andbattery positive.




Do the backlighting components illuminate?

Yes REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to B3.

No REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit VLN04 (VT/GY) for an open. TEST the systemfor normal operation.

B3 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION Disconnect all the BCM connectors.Check for:


Connect all the BCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.


Yes INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules . TEST the system fornormal operation.

No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by aloose or corroded connector.

C2 CHECK THE BCM BACKLIGHTING OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition OFF.Disconnect: BCM C2280B .Ignition ON.

Do the dimmable backlighted components continue to illuminate?

Yes REPAIR circuit VLN04 (VT/GY) for a short to voltage. TEST the system for normaloperation.

No GO to C3.

C3 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION Ignition OFF.Disconnect all the BCM connectors.Check for:


Connect all the BCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.


Yes INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules . TEST the system fornormal operation.

No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by aloose or corroded connector.



Pinpoint Test D: The Steering Wheel Switch Illumination Is Inoperative

Refer to Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.Normal Operation The BCM sends a voltage to the steering wheel controls switch and message center switch based onthe Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) illumination messages that are sent over the network tothe BCM. The voltage passes through the clockspring to the steering wheel harness and on to thesteering wheel switches. The steering wheel switches share the ground circuit with the horn switch.This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

D1 CHECK THE OTHER DIMMABLE LIGHTING SWITCHES Ignition OFF.Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.Press and hold the instrument panel dimmer switch to the first detent up to the fullillumination position and observe other dimmable switches.

Are all the dimmable switches inoperative?

Yes GO to Pinpoint Test B .

No GO to D2.

D2 CHECK THE HORN OPERATION Press the driver air bag module against the steering wheel.

Does the horn sound?

Yes GO to D3.

No REFER to Horn to diagnose the horn is inoperative.

D3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE STEERING WHEEL SWITCH Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.Disconnect: Inoperative Steering Wheel Switch.Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.Press and hold the instrument panel dimmer switch to the first detent up to the fullillumination position.For the message center switch, measure the voltage between the message center switchC2998-4 , circuit VLN04 (BN), harness side and the message center switch C2998-3 , circuitGD185 (GN/TN), harness side.




For the steering wheel controls switch, measure the voltage between the steering wheelcontrols switch C2999-6 , circuit VLN04 (BN), harness side and the steering wheel controlsswitch C2999-1 , circuit GD185 (GN/TN), harness side.




Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes REPLACE the inoperative steering wheel switch. REFER to Steering Column Switches .TEST the system for normal operation.

No GO to D4.

D4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE CLOCKSPRING Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.Disconnect: Clockspring C218A .Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position.Measure the voltage between the clockspring C218A-9 , circuit VLN04 (VT/GY), harnessside and ground.



Yes GO to D5.

No REPAIR circuit VLN04 (VT/GY) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

D5 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT TO THE CLOCKSPRING FOR CONTINUITY Measure the voltage between the clockspring C218A-9 , circuit VLN04 (VT/GY), harnessside and the clockspring C218A-8 , circuit GD185 (BK), harness side.





Yes GO to D6.

No REPAIR circuit GD185 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

D6 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE UPPER CLOCKSPRING Connect: Clockspring C218A .Disconnect: Clockspring C218B .Measure the voltage between the clockspring C218B-9 , component side and theclockspring C218B-10 , component side.





Yes INSTALL a new steering wheel. REFER to Steering Column . TEST the system for normaloperation.

No INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System . TEST the systemfor normal operation.

Pinpoint Test E: One Or More Illumination Source Is Inoperative

Refer to Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information.Normal Operation The Body Control Module (BCM) sends a voltage to the dimmable components.For the base Audio Front Control Module (ACM) (AM/FM only), the BCM supplies a voltage to the ACMillumination based on the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) illumination messages that are sentover the network to the BCM.When the accessory delay relay energizes, voltage is provided to the non-dimmable switches.This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
