Assessments for 5Ws of Website Investigation
Grade 3
The assessments used for the lesson of 5Ws of Website Investigation include:
1) Teacher and SLMS observation of students
2) SLMS questioning during direct instruction
3) 5Ws and website match quiz (based on screen capture ofhttp://tryfdr.weebly.com/paul-revere.htmlwebsite designed for this assignment)
4) Label the 5Ws handout (based on Kath Schrocks handout http://kathyschrock.net/abceval/5ws.pdf
5) Ticket Out the Door student self assessment
Assessment Results:
There were fourteen students in the class. From observation it seemed most of the students were able find
the 5Ws with a little help. They were able to name the 5Ws as a group. Of the fourteen students in the
class, three students were able to match all 5Ws on the website match quiz, one student only matched one
correctly, one student only matched two correctly, and the remaining nine students all were able to match
three correctly but seemed to be confused on the What is the purpose of the website? and Why is the
information useful? This may have been due to the format of the assessment or the need for more
practice. Twelve of the students were able to label all the 5Ws on the handout. All but one student
checked the yes response when answering the Ticket Out the Door question of I can use the 5Ws to
find a good website. One student chose the with help response. Copies of the assessments follow.
