ii. Teaching Methodology

This training program is a blended program having online and classroom training modules. Blended training program has flexibility advantage. Participants may go through the learning material as and when they get time. An average person may take approximately 240 hours to go through the entire training material of this program. All learning material will be uploaded on dedicated online training website and each participant will be given 90 days to self read the learning material. Participants will be able to ask questions, participate in online discussion forums and video lectures during this period. Towards near completion of online learning, all the participants will attend the 6 day classroom training program wherein only select important topics will be discussed in details. Classroom training program, delivered by international experts, will also include some hands-on exercises and best practice case studies. Participants will have access to online training material even after completion of course.

The training program is exclusively designed for system operators who are and who will work in the area of operating and managing the grid with high share of RE. The program is immensely beneficial for policy makers and regulators as well.

The blended learning certificate program "RE Grid Integration" is taught by senior European scientists and experts. All of these experts have many years of experience in applied research on grid integration of renewable energies as well as in the implementation of blended learning courses. Your trainers from various universities, research institutes and from the private sector are characterized by the following

Target Group

Your Trainers

unique training features. Trainers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology (IEE) are lead experts for the topics of grid planning and system operation. Your trainers from the the University of Oldenburg have rich experience on RE generation forecasting. Energynautics GmbH is a leading specialist on issues of grid codes as well as grid & system integration studies.

The lead instructor of the training course is Dr. Hans-Peter Waldl. He is former head of the wind energy research at University of Oldenburg, and now managing director of Overspeed, Germany. Dr. Waldl has a proven track record of more than 25 years in the fields of renewable energy technology, grid integration, and design and delivery of trainings.

The required connection between the European and Indian perspective is ensured by the Indian Institute of Technology - Mumbai (IIT-M). This institution is a pioneer in research and training on RE integration related topics in India

Responsible for the didactic concept of the Blended Learning Program is the Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L), Germany. Experience of C3L is used for designing and implementing the online training modules.

A special feature of the certificate program is the continuous support to the course participants. The self-study phases are guided by an online mentor. For classroom training program in India, international experts will travel to India to deliver face to face training programs including the exercises and case studies. With this didactic concept a high-grade supervision of all course participants is ensured.

Need of an Advance Course onRE Grid Integration

b) Project partners

Renewable Energy (RE) generation capacity is poised to grow many fold in India in coming years. While solar and wind are sources of clean energy but power generation from these sources is highly dependent on weather conditions. Variable and intermittent generation from RE poses new set of challenges for grid operators who are responsible for secure grid operations. At institutional level GoI is setting up 11 Renewable Energy Management Centres (REMC), co-located with existing load despatch centres (LDCs), to facilitate integration of RE into the grid. However, there is a lack of focused capacity building programs for development of grid operators skills to better understand the behaviour of RE generation and to understand what policy, regulatory, market and technical tools are available for integrating higher share of RE into the grid. With RE becoming mainstream, there is a need to introduce focused capacity development measures on integration of RE.

Government of India (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Ministry of Power) joined hands with Government of Germany under the Indo – German Energy Programs' Green Energy Corridors (IGEN-GEC) project to work on the RE grid integration related challenges. GIZ GmbH is implementing the project in collaboration with different government agencies in India. For capacity development program for grid operators, GIZ is working together with Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO) and National Power Training Institute (NPTI) to design and develop a curriculum on RE grid integration. First few batches of this training program will be trained by European / Indian experts who are developing this training program. A separate batch of future Indian trainers will be identified and trained. Subsequently, after 2020, NPTI will take over the implementation of this training program.
