Right-hander Matt Buschmann gets the ball for Reno opposite Las Vegas southpaw Sean Gilmartin. Yesterday’s Game: Utilityman Mike Freeman tied an Aces record with the 14th five-hit game in franchise history as Reno earned a 14-7 victory over the 51s on Monday night at Cashman Field. Sócrates Brito drove in a career-best six runs to set an Aces season high, and Edwin Escobar turned in a quality outing in his first start since being optioned back to Triple-A from Arizona. Las Vegas opened the scoring in the first inning, when T.J. Rivera laced an RBI single to right field that scored Brandon Nimmo, who drew a one-out walk before advancing on a groundout. Kyle Jensen led off the second with a double to right for Reno. He advanced to third two batters later when Rivera missed a throw from pitcher Gabriel Ynoa on Zach Borenstein’s fielder’s choice, and then tagged up to score on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Rivero. The Aces took an 8-1 lead with seven runs in the third. Freeman started the rally on a double to right, advancing to third when Jack Reinheimer reached on a fielder’s choice and then scoring on an RBI single by Brito. Jensen then provided an offensive jolt with a three-run home run to left, increasing Reno’s lead to 5-1. Borenstein followed with an infield single to set up a two-run dinger by Mitch Haniger. After a Rivero groundout, Tuffy Gosewisch doubled to left and then scored when 51s right fielder Travis Taijeron misplayed an RBI single by Escobar. Reno raised its lead to 11-1 in the fifth on a bases-loaded triple from Brito. The three-bagger came after a leadoff single by Rivero, a base hit by Freeman and a walk to Reinheimer. Brito later drove in his fifth run of the night in the seventh on a two-out single that brought Freeman around from second. The former Clemson Tiger had tied the franchise single-game hits record with a single and then advanced a passed ball. Las Vegas manufactured a run following the seventh-inning stretch on a one-out single and three consecutive walks by Aces reliever Matt Stites. The 51s closed the gap to 12-7 with five runs in the eighth. Rivera singled off Reno’s Daniel Gibson to set up a two-run home run by Johnny Monell. A single, two doubles and an RBI groundout brought the home team back to within five. Reno completed the scoring with two runs in the ninth. Brito reached on a two-out fielding error, logging his sixth RBI of the night as Gosewisch scored from third. In the next at-bat, pitcher Matt Capps logged his first career RBI on a groundout that plated Sean Jamieson, who had pinch-hit for Escobar in the seventh and remained in the game at shortstop. Sean Gilmartin: 26-year-old Sean Gilmartin starts tonight for Las Vegas in game two of the series. The left- hander is 6-3 with a 5.43 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 54.2 innings over 10 starts for the 51s this year. The Aces hammered Gilmartin on June 3 at Greater Nevada Field, scoring eight runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings. Last season, he went 3-2 with a 2.67 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 57.1 innings over 50 games (one start) for the Mets. With two appearances for New York this season, he has a 3-2 career Major League record with a 2.45 ERA and 59 strikeouts over 62.1 innings in 52 games. In 88 career Minor League games (87 starts), Gilmartin is 26-29 with a 4.04 ERA and 399 strikeouts in 474.2 innings. The Mets selected him in the Rule 5 Draft from Minnesota on December 11, 2014. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (28th overall) of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Florida State University. Prayers Answered in Sin City: After going winless in eight contests at Cashman Field in 2015, the Aces totaled 14 runs on 17 hits in last night’s victory over Las Vegas, giving Reno its first win in Sin City since Andrew Chafin threw a complete-game shutout on September 4, 2014 in game two of the Pacific Conference Championship Series. Reno trails the all-time series by a 62-55 margin, including a 33-24 deficit at Cashman Field. The 14 runs matched Reno’s highest run output at Las Vegas (also: August 29, 2009 - won 14-6). The 17 hits tied for the second-highest hit total an Aces squad has ever posted at Cashman Field, with the highest being 19 knocks on May 2, 2011 in a Reno 12-8 victory. Pacific Southern: The remaining seven games on the current road trip are against opponents from the Pacific Southern Division in Las Vegas and Albuquerque. The Aces have won seven of their last nine games against the Pacific Southern after beginning the year 7-15. June Boon: The Aces own a 9-3 record through 12 games in the month of June, tied for the second-best record among PCL teams. El Paso is also 9-3 in 12 games, while New Orleans has a 10-2 mark. The Aces are batting .339 as a team with 19 homers during the month, both the highest marks among all Triple-A clubs. The Aces have scored 98 runs in those 12 contests, good for an average of 8.17 runs per game. 7-7-7: Through 54 games, the Aces’ highest run total for a single inning was six runs, completed once on May 25 at New Orleans. Reno then scored seven runs in an inning on June 4 (1st inning) and June 5 (4th inning) against Salt Lake, before doing so again last night in the third inning at Las Vegas. Keep on Raking: Sócrates Brito extended his season-best hitting streak to 15 games with three hits last night. The 15-game run is the second-longest hitting streak by an Aces player this season (Mike Freeman, 17), and it’s also the second-longest streak of his career (16, August 17-September 3, 2012). In addition, Tuffy Gosewisch has a current 10-game hitting streak that marks his longest of the season and is one game shy of his career long (11, May 13-24, 2013). Caution, B(ur)rito may be Hot: Brito tallied three hits, six RBI and one run scored in six at-bats during last night’s 14-7 drubbing of Las Vegas. The outfielder has raised his average 66 points during his 15-game hitting streak, from .224 to .290. Brito is one of six PCL players with a streak of 15 or more games this year. He also has 17 RBI over that span after posting 12 in his first 32 games with Reno. Give Him a Han(d)iger: Mitch Haniger hit his first Triple-A home run on Sunday, a three-run blast in the fourth inning off Joe Wieland. Last night, he took Gabriel Ynoa yard for a two-run shot. The outfielder has a current seven-game hitting streak dating back to June 7, and is batting .400 (6-for-15) with two home runs, a double and six RBI in four games for Reno since his promotion from Mobile on Friday. Kyle not Kidding: Kyle Jensen hit a three-run home run in the third inning last night, giving him 54 RBI on the season. The California native is one of three players in Minor League Baseball with at least that many RBI, and one of five in all of professional baseball. He has homered in seven of his last 13 games. Through 63 Games: The Aces are 34-29 through 63 games, eight games ahead of last season’s 26-37 mark. The starting rotation has posted a 4.25 ERA (164 ER/347.1 IP) compared to last year’s 5.67 ERA (202 ER/320.2 IP). Last year, the offense had scored 326 runs through 63 contests (5.17 runs per game), compared to this year’s 316 runs in 63 games (5.02 runs per game). STREAKS This Date in Aces History The Aces are 3-4 all-time in games played on June 14. The Aces won, 4-3, in Memphis last year with the help of the double play ball. They turned five double plays in the win, equaling the Aces’ franchise record. At the plate, Nick Ahmed had a four-hit day and Alfredo Marte hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning. Last year, the 51s finished off a four-game sweep of the Aces with an 8-7 win at Cashman Field. RENO ACES BASEBALL CLUB GREATER NEVADA FIELD 250 EVANS AVE.
