Course Title: CPT 301 Microcomputer ApplicationsDelivery Method: OnlineCredit Hours: 3.0Clock Hours: Theory 45 hoursRequired Text: CMPTR, 2nd Edition, Katherine Pinard and Robin Romer, Cengage, 2013Instructor(s):

Course Description: This course prepares students to utilize Windows-based applications within the Windows environment. Through a hands-on approach, students will achieve advanced application knowledge of Windows, word processing, presentation software, and spreadsheets.

Course Format:This course utilizes a combination of online lecture notes, group discussions, and interactive media.

Student/Instructor Ratio:The laboratory ratio of students to instructor does not exceed 20 to 1. The Texas classroom ratio does not exceed 30 to 1. In other states, the classroom ratio does not exceed 35 to 1. The online classroom ratio does not exceed 25 to 1.

Course Resources: Internet access, web browser, course management software, required text, word-processing software, and other various web multimedia plug-ins.

Prerequisites: None

Course Requirements:Students are expected to:

1. regularly log in to their online course. 2. actively participate in online discussions by contributing ideas and information and responding to others in

the class.3. work productively in both group and individual activities.4. achieve a minimum 77% grade average in the course.

Attendance Requirements:Students are to notify Pima Medical Institute by phone prior to class time if they are going to be absent or late. Notice of prolonged absence must be made in person or by letter to the appropriate school administrator, as designated by the Campus Director. All absence time, including late arrivals and early departures, regardless of reason, is recorded and becomes part of the student record.

Students with absences in excess of 5% of the total number of classroom hours in a program (certificate programs) or semester (degree programs) receive attendance advisement. Students with absences of 10% of the total number of classroom hours in a program or semester are placed on attendance warning. Absences in excess of 15% of the total program or semester class hours may result in termination for unsatisfactory attendance.

Attendance in an online course requires classroom activity such as submitting an assignment, posting to a discussion, or completing a quiz.

Students absent for fourteen (14) consecutive calendar days (including weekends and holidays) from the last date of academically related activity, including externship, will be terminated. Perfect attendance awards are given only to students that have completed all class hours.

Examination Make-Up Policy:Students absent on examination day are given a make-up examination on the first day they return to class. Students are required to receive instructor approval prior to the absence. Examinations include quizzes, tests, graded lab demonstrations, and midterm and final exams. The earned score on a make-up examination is reduced by 10%. A grade of zero is given for examinations not taken on the day of return or without instructor approval. With proper documentation, the score reduction may be waived for students who are absent due to jury duty, military obligation, death of an immediate family member, or birth of a son or daughter.

Method of Evaluation: Assessment is based upon the course requirements and is as follows:Discussions 30%Assignments 55%Final Project 15%

Grading: Grades for all courses completed and attempted are recorded on students' permanent transcripts using the following grading system:

Course Objectives:Upon completion of this course, the student will have been provided the opportunity to:

1. Design, create, and update a database by setting up tables and establishing their relationships. 2. Manipulate and update the data and/or structure of a database using the database form, query, and report

productivity tools. 3. Utilize spreadsheet concepts and techniques to solve problems involving formulas, including relative

and absolute addressing. 4. Perform data management and reporting techniques, such as charts, pivot tables and solver. 5. Utilize Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) concepts.6. Design and present a slide presentation using OLE.7. Using MSWord Reference tools or other word processing program reference tools, prepare an APA

style bibliography of diverse resources located in the online library.8. Compare and contrast a web-based bibliographic program with the resources provided with MSWord or

other word processing program.9. Demonstrate appropriate citation when using online resources.
