Report From Queensland Branch Delegate : Activities (Continued) REPORT FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIAN STATE DELEGATE Nursing Consultative Committee A member ofACMI (Qld Branch) has been in- vited to serve on a proposed Nursing Consultative Committee. The Committee will comprise of repre- sentatives from 12 nursing organizations (one mem- ber from each organization). Terms of reference include: To advise the Minister for Health on nursing matters with state and national implications. To make recommendations on issues relevant to the provision of nursing services in Queensland. To advise on the need for specific studies~projects~research to address nursing and/or health-related matters. To assist in the dissemination of information about government action taken on nursing is- sues and facilitate a two-way flow of information between government and the profession. Joan Webster Queensland Branch Delegate REPORT FROM SOUTH AUSTRALIAN STATE DELEGATE ACTIVITIES OF THE BRANCH SINCE 25TH JANUARY 1990 There have been two management meetings and one general meeting held since January, together with a Twilight Seminar and a Perineal Suturing Workshop, to round offa busy three months. Membership South Australia has launched a new membership incentive drive, offering $100 to the member who recruits the most colleagues. Our membership has risen by 52, to B22 since January and the entire membership have been asked to try to double our members this year by each recruiting just ONE new member. Midwifery Working Party A Midwifery Working Party was formed in June 1988 by the South Australian Health Commission to examine the role of the Midwife in South Australia. Membership of the Midwifery Working Party con- sisted of the representatives of the Australian Col- lege of Midwives Inc, ANF and the Higher Education Sector. Each state delegate has been given a copy of the recently released draft report for comment. Education Activities The Twilight seminars, held twice a year in outer suburbs or near country areas have proved a worthwhile enterprise with between 50-75 midwives attending each event. The district hospitals supply the venue and the catering and the college arranges for the speakers and programme. The topic of 'Mid- wives Shared-C~re Clinics' provided much interest and discussion at the latest seminar. Plans are nearly complete for the Two Day City Seminar in June. Day one will focus on recent advan- ces in Midwifery, with day two devoted to alternative therapies and practice. The SA Branch is delighted that Rhodanthe Lipsett from the ACT will be our keynote speaker. Celebrity Visit The National Secretary, Judy D'EIMaine swept into Adelaide in April to conduct the first of our Perineal Suturing Workshops. Judy was brilliant, and although slightly perplexed at our choice of suturing models, (large pieces of beef shin, and taken home in a doggy bag later) proceeded to over- see a FUN morning for 45 College members. Judy also had a whirlwind visit of three of our largest teaching hospitals and waks able to answer queries from staff and students concerning the ACMI. l Graduate Diploma/Masters Representatives from the SA Branch have been involved in a professional consultation workshop with Sturt GAE looking at a program being developed for a Masters of Nursing (Advanced Prac- rice) Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Midwifery).
