A nutrition education programme was conducted at Shemeche-Advan Anganwadi for the

mothers of preschool children on the occasion of iodine day. The nutrition officers delivered

a talk on importance of nutrition and balance diet for children and women. Other topics

highlighted were importance of water, breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of

important nutrients like Vitamin A, Iron, Iodine and calcium and ill effects of junk food

were discussed. Preparation of recipes keeping in mind the local availability and SNP

provided to the beneficiaries was also discussed. The ANM spoke on routine immunization

schedule. The session was attended by 18 ladies of different age groups. The MPHW (M)

from Casarvarnem sub centre was also present. Iodised Salt packets were distributed to all

the mothers. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to

which their queries were answered.

of water, breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of important nutrients like Vitamin A,

Iron, Iodine and calcium and ill effects of junk food were discussed. Preparation of recipes

keeping in mind the local availability and SNP provided to the beneficiaries was also

discussed. The session was attended by 15 ladies of different age groups. The Extension

Educator from Pernem CHC, MPHW (M) and ANM from Parcem sub centre were also

present. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which

their queries were answered.

A nutrition education programme was conducted at Lokvishwas Pratishthan School of

mentally challenged children, Honda, for the special children and their parents. The assistant

nutrition officer delivered a talk on importance of nutrition and balance diet for children.

Other topics highlighted were importance of water, breakfast and the deficiencies and

sources of important nutrients like Vitamin A, Iron, Iodine and calcium and ill effects of

junk food were discussed. The session was attended by 20 students, 5 teachers and 30

parents of different age groups. The Medical Officer from Valpoi CHC spoke on good

health and personal hygiene. The RMNCH+A Counsellor from CHC, JCI Club presidents

were also present.

It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their

queries were answered.

mothers of children. The nutrition officer delivered a talk on importance of nutrition and

water, breakfast and the deficiencies and food sources of important nutrients like Vitamin A,

Iron, calcium and Iodine and ill effects of junk food. The session was attended by total of 22

mothers. The IEC officer from PHC, ANM from Ella sub centre were also present. It was an

interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were

answered.

A nutrition education programme was conducted at District Hospital, Mapusa, for the

postpartum mothers. The nutrition officers delivered lectures in 2 sessions on importance of

breastfeeding and initialization of same soon after birth of the child, its benefits for lactating

mother as well as for the baby. Topics highlighted were Techniques of breastfeeding and

benefits of breastfeeding during diarrhea, Balanced diet, Iron and calcium rich foods and

importance of water, galactogogues foods which help to increase the supply of breast milk

and weaning foods were also discussed keeping in mind locally available foods and SNP

provided to the beneficiaries. The session was attended by 16 postpartum mothers. The

Voluntary health Association counselor was present. It was an interactive session where the

audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

A Nutrition education programme was conducted at Mapusa District Hospital for

pregnant women. The nutrition officers delivered lecture on importance of nutrition

during pregnancy and lactation. Topics highlighted were importance of energy, protective

and protein food sources and balance of these in daily eating. The importance of

breakfast, water and the deficiencies of micronutrients important for pregnant mothers

(iron, calcium, and iodine) and food sources. Importance of breastfeeding and its benefits

for child and mother, Initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding were

discussed. Preparation of complementary foods and lactogenic foods were discussed. The

session was attended by 9 Antenatal mothers and 7 relatives of different age groups.

It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their

queries were answered.

PLACE: Immunization Day, Mulgao Sub Centre (Bicholim PHC).

A nutrition education programme was conducted at Mulgao Sub Centre on immunization

day, for the lactating and pregnant mothers and mothers of preschool children. The Assistant

nutrition officer did diet counseling on importance of breastfeeding and initialization of

same soon after birth of the child, its benefits for lactating mother as well as for the baby.

Topics highlighted were Techniques of breastfeeding and benefits of breastfeeding during

diarrhea, Balanced diet, Iron and calcium rich foods and importance of water, lactogenic

foods which help to increase the supply of breast milk and weaning foods were also

discussed. Total 17 mothers were counseled. The ANM from Advalpal sub centre, Mulgao

sub centre staff and MPHW (M) from Nanoda Sub centre were also present. It was an

interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were

answered.

the lactating, pregnant mothers and mothers of preschool children. The Assistant nutrition

birth of the child, its benefits for lactating mother as well as for the baby. Topics highlighted

were benefits of breastfeeding during diarrhea, Balanced diet, Iron and calcium rich foods

and weaning foods were also discussed. Total 28 mothers were present. The 3ANMs and

attendant from Bicholim PHC were also present.

and balance diet for adolescent girls and women. Other topics highlighted were importance of

water, breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of important nutrients like Iron, calcium and

Iodine, ill effects of junk food and menstrual hygiene were discussed. Tips on how to

improvised and increase the nutritional value of a recipe was also touched upon. The session

was attended by total of 18 mothers and 8 adolescent girls. The ANM and attendant from

Mulgao sub centre were also present. It was an interactive session where the audience also

asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

breakfast and the deficiencies and sources of important nutrients like Iron, calcium and Iodine

and ill effects of junk food. Also Hand washing steps demonstration, Personal and menstrual

hygiene were discussed. Tips on how to improvised and increase the nutritional value of a

recipe was also touched upon. The session was attended by total of 35 adolescent girls and 10

mothers. The School Health MO, MPHW (F) and peons from Pernem CHC were also

present. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which

their queries were answered.

PLACE: Maternity Ward Hospicio Hospital Margao.

CONDUCTED BY: MS MELKIZA FURTADO (NUTRITION OFFICER)

An IEC activity was conducted at Maternity Ward, Hospicio Hospital, where The Nutrition Officer

delivered a lecture on importance of breastfeeding, encouraging exclusive breastfeeding up to 6

months of completion and up to 2years with complementary feeds; importance of Colostrum and

breastfeeding for the mother and the child was discussed. Preparation of some nutritious and

locally available complementary feeds and SNP provided were discussed. As well importance of

balanced diet for lactating mothers was discussed and Galactogogues rich foods consumption was

encouraged. Followed by explaining the importance of rehydration solution in management of

severe dehydration in case of diarrhoea was explained, preparation of ORS was explained and zinc

supplementation with its importance in management of diarrhoea was explained. RMNCH-A

Counsellor from Hospicio Hospital was also present. Total 15mothers were present. It was an

interactive session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were

answered.

A Nutrition Education Programme was conducted on Village Health & Nutrition Day at Comba

Anganwadi, for the ladies of different age. The Nutrition Officer delivered a lecture on

Malnutrition in Children how it affects the child’s growth, academic performance and other

activities. Adopting correct feeding practices and other care for reducing malnutrition. Importance

of Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continuing breastfeeding up to 2years with

complementary feeding, Care during sickness especially diarrhoea, Importance of immunizations,

Anganwadi services provided for the mother and the child were discussed. Topics highlighted

were importance of energy yielding, protective and proteins food sources. Deficiencies and food

sources of important nutrients iron, calcium and iodine was highlighted. Ill effects of junk food

and importance of water and breakfast was highlighted. The session was attended by 12 ladies of

different age groups. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions

to which their queries were answered. The ANM from Nessai II Sub Centre was also present.

ladies of different age. The Nutrition Officer delivered a lecture on Malnutrition in Children how

A Nutrition Education Programme was conducted on Village Health & Nutrition Day at Muddi

Anganwadi, Velsao for the ladies of different age. The Nutrition Officer delivered a lecture on

Malnutrition in Children how it affects the child’s growth, academic performance and other

activities. Adopting correct feeding practices and other care for reducing malnutrition. Importance

of Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continuing breastfeeding up to 2years with

complementary feeding, Care during sickness especially diarrhoea, Importance of immunizations,

Anganwadi services provided for the mother and the child were discussed. Topics highlighted

were importance of energy yielding, protective and proteins food sources. Deficiencies and food

sources of important nutrients iron, calcium and iodine was highlighted. Ill effects of junk food

and importance of water and breakfast was highlighted. The session was attended by 22 ladies of

different age groups. It was an interactive session where the audience also asked many questions

to which their queries were answered. The Mukiya Sevika, Anganwadi Workers and ANM from

Sub Centre were also present.

Adolescent Girls of that Area, where the Nutrition Officer delivered a lecture on adolescence and

protective and proteins food sources and balance of this in our daily eating. Deficiencies and food

sources of important nutrients iron and calcium was highlighted. WIFS and its importance during

adolescent phase were discussed and diet to be followed during the days supplement will be

provided in school. Other topics highlighted were importance of water, breakfast and Ill effects of

junk food. Tips on how to improvise recipes were also discussed. Consumption of local fruits and

vegetables was encouraged. The RMNCH-A Counsellor spoke on Vector borne Diseases and its

preventive measure. The session was attended by 10 Adolescent girls. It was an interactive

session where the audience also asked many questions to which their queries were answered.

daily eating. The importance of breakfast, water and the deficiencies and sources of important

nutrients like Iron, calcium and iodine were discussed. Importance of Breastfeeding and its

benefits for both mother and child were discussed. Preparation of complementary foods for

weaning infants including locally available foods and SNP provided were discussed. Consumption

of local fruits and vegetables was encouraged. The session was attended by 30 ladies of different

On the occasion of World Diabetes Day an IEC activity conducted at Diabetic OPD at Cansaulim

PHC, where the Nutrition Officer delivered a lecture on causes of Diabetes Mellitus, its prevention

and its management through balanced diet, explaining which food choices are to be made and

foods to be restricted and avoided, also encouraged exercising as daily routine and timely medical

follow-ups there were 40 patients for the session. Followed by delivering a lecture for the
