in future?
SUGGESTIONS RECEIVED
Handouts should be distributed before the lecture.
May have more impact if handouts shared beforehand.
More lectures on specific topics of IPR and patent filing must be organized.
Very informative lecture I would love to hear more from his and her in future if possible And
thank you Siddharth sir for organizing such an awesome workshop.
Please increase the time for the queries
We can plan webinar series of three days for more detailed understanding.
Example of optimization of Electrical Engineering should be taken
A general lecture on basics of optimization is required first because everyone is not aware of
optimization its basics as we are using the software, we are not aware what actually is going
in this process mathematically. why we select the specific approach or modal for
optimization.
2. Webinar on “Importance of IP for Researchers and how IP is important for researchers and Academia”
Date: 9 April 2020

health status by providing medicines to the poor, improving access to education and contributing
the overall sustainable development.

3. Webinaron “Changing Dynamics of IP Regime during COVID- 19”
Date: 12May 2020
Mode: Online (Through Skype)
Number of participants: 90
Expert: Prof. Xiaolei Zhang
SUMMARY OF EVENT
The unfortunate occurrence of COVID 19- Pandemic has opened the door of various possibilities
for online education. In this scenario the intellectual property rights become important in the
increased usage of online material. Prof. Xiaolei Zhang has given give talk on the changing
dynamics of IP system during COVID-19.She outlined the difference in IP system before and after
the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whilst in normal circumstances IPR rightsholders are granted protection over their intellectual
property (‘IP’) against third-party use, the pandemic has created an unprecedented situation
whereby IPR holders may be forced, even temporarily, to allow third-parties to use their IPRs,
example patents or designs, for the public interest.
Towards the end of her lecture, she enumerated the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which have
been felt worldwide and across all business sectors. The pandemic is also leaving an impact on the
protection of existing intellectual property rights (‘IPRs’) and on IPRs in the process of acquiring
protection.

Industrial visit is considered as one of the tactical methods of teaching and helpful to inculcate the
entrepreneurship ability in the students. The main reason behind this- it lets student to know things
practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. Moreover, it gives
exposure from academic point of view. The usage of up to date technology development in the
industrial plant is an important factor, about which students must aware. Visiting different
companies actually help students to build a good relationship with employees and company as a
whole. After visiting an industry student can gain a combined knowledge about both theory and
practical. Students will be more concerned about earning a job after having an industrial visit.
About the industry:
With innovation at the core of its philosophy, the New Delhi (India) headquartered Hero
MotoCorp has been at the forefront of designing and developing technologically advanced
motorcycles and scooters for customers around the world. It became the world’s largest two-
wheeler manufacturer in 2001, in terms of unit volume sales in a calendar year, and has maintained
the coveted title for the past 18 consecutive years.
With over 90 million satisfied customers across the globe, it continues to champion socio-
economic progress and empowerment through its range of products and services.
Led by Dr Pawan Munjal, Chairman, Hero MotoCorp, it has taken rapid strides to expand its
presence to 37 countries across Asia, Africa, and South & Central America. Hero MotoCorp is a
truly global enterprise with a workforce that comprises of people from different nationalities
including India, Bangladesh, Colombia, Germany, Austria, Japan, and France.
Hero MotoCorp is the dominant market leader in India – the world’s largest two-wheeler market –
with over 50% share in the domestic motorcycle market.
Purpose of Industrial Visit
1) Interaction of the students with industry personals and know about the standard IPR activities
the industries presently follow.
2) To make students aware of the industrial procedures required for successful career.
3) To gain experience the working environment in industry and visualize the all the important

1. Lecture on IPR Awareness Date: 22 September 2016
Venue: Conference Hall-3,ADM Block, COER, Roorkee
Number of participants: 45
Expert: Dr. Gaurav Dwivedi
SUMMARY OF EVENT
Dr. Dwivedi opined that the academic institutions will continue to play an important role in
facilitating skilled human resource to industries, government institutions, academia & R&D. The
knowledge society puts heavy demands on R&D in scientific, engineering and other areas in order
to respond to market needs quickly. Collaborative research and development among national and
overseas institutions is likely to become very important for finding new solutions to problems.
Therefore, the education, science & technology and industry departments have to create an
environment which promotes knowledge about protection and management of IPRs generated in
colleges and universities at different levels. This may call for a paradigm change in the manner
research is done in the universities and emphasis would need to be placed on the practical business
realities involved in technology development. At last he described how the IP policy has to be
shaped accordingly.
At the end of the lecture, Dr. B.M. Singh had presented a memento to the guest.

Expert: Dr. Gaurav Dwivedi
SUMMARY OF EVENT
The Speaker Looking into the history of economic development and trade patterns across the
world, we find that growth and development of a country hinges upon two key factors viz., quality
of resource endowments and the accumulation of intellectual properties by way of inventing,
innovating and creating superior technologies. In the recent years, it is the latter that has led to
differentiated and skewed economic development across the nations. Thus, I consider IPR as an
opportunity to a country to acquire competitive advantage even when it has resource limitations.
The least developed African countries (LDCs) having vast natural resources on the one hand and
industrialized developed countries like United Kingdom (UK) and Japan on the other are the
striking examples to prove this time tested dictum. In today’s scenario, a developed country is
known not by the vast resources it endows but by the rate at which it innovates or even imitates
superior technologies to gain trade competenceAt the end of the workshop vote of thanks was
