FOREWORD

The issue of resting facilities and other provisions for outstation rest of running staff has

been engaging the attention of Indian Railways time to time as is evident from the number of

letters and instructions issued on the subject by the Ministry of Railways and Zonal Railways.

Various Railways have taken up several steps to improve the conditions of Running

Room and made provision of various amenities and recreational facilities. Still there is scope of

improvement at various places.

In view of above CAMTECH has prepared this Report on “Running Room Facilities”

which shall be useful for Railways to improve the running rooms facilities and environment. The

check list will be useful to pride the missing facility.

PREFACE

Running Room needs pride attention in order to ensure that crew rest is proper &

adequate. Sufficient facilities should be are available for the comfort of the running staff.

Various committees also drew attention of Railways on the subject to create the right kind of

environment for the running staff to take rest at outstation.

. CAMTECH has prepared this Report on “Running Room Facilities” to make improvement

in the facilities and amenities at Running Rooms. Good work done by various Railways along

with photographs has been incorporated in this report. CAMTECH also added a check list and

its recommendations on the subject.

It is clarified that this report does not supersede any existing provisions laid down by

Railway Board/ Zonal Railways. This report is for guidance only and it is not a statutory

document.

I am thankful to all field personnel who have helped us in preparing this report.

Technological up-gradation & learning is a continuous process. Hence feel free to write

to us for any addition or modification in this report. We shall highly appreciate your

contribution in this direction.

CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

OBJECTIVE

To provide clean and quiet resting place for loco crew and guard along with

necessary messing, boarding and recreational facilities round the clock, Railway Board

has issued guidelines to Zonal Railways for implementation.

1.1 RAILWAY BOARD GUIDE LINES AS PER BOARD’S LETTER NO. 2001/M (L)/467/2 DATED -10.11.03

1. Running room should be classified on the basis of number of users per day:

i. Category “A” – 51 users,

ii. Category “B” – between 21-50 users and

iii. Category “C” – up to 20 users.

2. Basic amenities like:

i. Proper hygiene, adequate toilet facilities and clear drinking water.

ii. Proper ventilation and lighting

iii. Desert cooler

iv. Reading room with magazine and newspaper

v. Cooking facilities to meet the needs of running staff

3. A norm of not more than two beds per room/cubicle should be adopted.

4. Where ever necessary boundary walls/fencing should be provided.

5. Standby power supply arrangement may be provided.

6. Mosquito nets/mosquito repellant etc. should be provided.

7. Railway and DOT phones should be provided.

8. Cooking utensils should be of stainless steel type.

9. Lockers should be provided to the running staff for keeping their personal

belongings/valuables.

10. First aid box and firefighting equipment should be provided.

11. Good quality linens should be provided.

1.2 A Report has been issued by Railway Board with a title “High Power Committee to

Review the Duty Hours of Running and Other Safety Related categories of Staff” on

August, 2013. Points pertaining to running room facilities are reproduced below for ready

reference:

1. Implementation of Railway Board’s Instructions on upkeep and maintenance of

the Running Rooms (Railway Board’s letter no.2001/M (L)/467/2 dated

10.11.2003), in particular the provision of two beds per room.

2. The provision of adequate accommodation in all Running Rooms so that there is

not even a single case of a loco pilot/ assistant loco pilot/ guard waiting for bed

after arriving in the running room.

3. Creation of a separate plan head for safety works including the works for running

room facilities and provision of adequate funds under this plan head. Until the

creation of the aforesaid plan head, works pertaining to running room facilities

should be permitted to be proposed under “Traffic facility” plan head with

adequate provision of funds.

4. Increase the powers of General Manager for sanctioning works related to running

rooms so that the proposals need not be sent to Board for approval unless the

value is very high.

5. The institution of running room standing committee should be revived to lend a

helping hand in solving the problems being faced by the running staff.

6. Regular monitoring and the compliance of the complaints made in the complaint

register of running rooms must be ensured.

7. All running rooms should be provided with air conditioning in due course

beginning with running rooms located in humid/ coastal areas, with 100% power

back up arrangements. A phase wise programme may be drawn and within 5

years, all running rooms on IR be provided with air conditioning facilities. Also,

new running rooms may be sanctioned with air conditioning facilities only.

8. The location for new running rooms should be decided taking into consideration

the noise pollution and air pollution. The proximity of running room to the

booking lobby should also be ensured to the extent possible.

9. Proper well lit pathways should be provided from Crew lobbies to running

rooms.

10. Provision of various facilities in running rooms as per the guidelines issued by

boards from time to time. Shoe polishing kit and ironing facility should also be

provided in all running rooms, in addition to what has already been prescribed.

11. Ministry of Railways letter no.2001/M (L)/467/2 dated 10-11-2003 inter-alia

provides categorization of the running rooms based on number of beds and

facilities as per this categorization. The committee agrees with the categorization

and provision of facilities as per this categorization along with the additional

facilities recommended above.

12. Ration based system should be done away with at the earliest.

13. Only the fully subsidized meals should be served to the running staff as is the

practice in civil aviation sector. Also, the catering contract should specifically lay

down the condition of preparing one or two extra dishes for running staff on

demand as per his requirement/ choice, on a token payment. For this purpose,

adequate provision of staff, specially the cooking staff, should be made in the

contract.



14. For catering contract in the running rooms for the supply of pre cooked meals at

subsidized rates, the quality standard should be clearly defined in consultation

with a professional/ hotel management/ catering institute. The standard should not

be lower than that prescribed for AC 2- tier passengers in Rajdhani trains.

15. Estimated rates should be specified for catering contracts which should be

workable and comparable with the meal rates of AC 2 tier passengers in Rajdhani

trains. Also, to ensure the viability of the quoted rates. It should be clearly

stipulated in the tender conditions that the tenderer quoting below the estimates

rates would be disqualified.

16. To maintain the financial viability which, in turn, will ensure consistence in

quality, the accepted rate should be updated every 6 months on the basis of

consumer price index.

17. The selection of the service provider should be on the basis of two packet system

with pre-qualification bid ensuring his professional capability based on past

experience and should financial capacity.

18. Strict penal clauses should be inbuilt in the contract to ensure that there is no

compromise on quality during the execution of contract.

19. A bimonthly feedback system should be introduced. Under this system, the staff

can be asked to give feedback on a 5 or 10 point scale and the contract should be

terminated by giving only one chance to the contractor for improving the quality,

if the feedback is not satisfactory. The feedback forms and their collection boxes

should be kept in the lobby instead of running rooms to ensure fair and frank

feedback.

20. Wherever it is not feasible for the Zonal Railways to outsource the catering

contract due to location or size of the running room, the North Eastern Railway

model of providing the catering facilities through local management committee

may be considered for adoption.

21. The administration control of running rooms should be with the same authority

which controls the majority of running staff on the division/ area.

22. In metropolitan cities, a beginning may be made by providing 3 or 4 star hotel

accommodations to the running staff for resting at outstation. However, initially

it may be tried out for running staff working mail/ express/ passenger trains as

they work to a link which the arrival and departure timings are known in advance

quite accurately. Thus, planning for the accommodation for their stay can be done

easily.

12. NOISE POLLUTION

There are many methods which help to control the noise pollution.

Construction of sound proof rooms for noisy machines in running room.

Use of horns with jarring sounds to be banned.

Proper law should be enforced to check the misuse of loudspeakers and public

announcements systems.

Growing green plants/trees along roadside to reduce noise pollution as they absorb

sound.

The source of noise must be reduced.

Whereever possible the amount of traffic must be reduced near the running room by

planning diversion etc.

The industries must be built away from the running room areas and the legal laws

must be established and observed to protect the humans from noise pollution.

A general awareness programme to educate the people must be done.

2. WHITE WASHING AND ENGINEERING MAINTENANCE

Periodical white washing and regular engineering maintenance shall be ensured to

keep the running rooms in good condition.

By West Central Railway, Bhopal division white washing and Engg. maintenance

is being carried out through Zonal contract for their Integrated Running Room. Running

Room In-charge also uses imprest to take care of petty engineering repairs if the regular

departmental maintenance is taking time.

3. ELECTRICAL WIRING AND MAINTENANCE

Electrical wiring shall be checked periodically and regular attention shall be given

to light and fan points and other electrical fittings/equipment for their proper functioning.

This activity can be handled satisfactorily through departmental resources.

However, the Running Room imprest may also be allowed to get petty electrical general

works if departmental resources are taking time.

4. ILLUMINATION LEVEL

Sufficient illumination level shall be ensured in all areas of running room. The

running room may be provided with T5 and CFL lamps extensively in common areas like

Verandah, Reception, Reading Room, Kitchen, Dining halls, Toilet blocks etc.

CHAPTER 11

CAMTECH RECOMMENDATIONS

One seminar was organizes at CAMTECH Gwalior on 14.02.2014 on Running Room

Facilities. Running room inspectors of different Zonal Railways and Divisions participated in

the seminar. Following recommendations are made by CAMTECH for convenient stay of crew

at Running Rooms.

1. To Instill feeling of serving better following display is proposed at reception.

2. Many of the activities of running rooms are being

outsourced. To keep watch on unauthorized person,

one CCTV (Close Circuit Television) system may

be provided at reception. Similarly smoke detector

may also be provided to avoid fire incident.



3. Important DOT or mobile phone numbers

should be displayed at appropriate places.

4. Computer may be provided at

reception with internet connection to

locate exact position of train. This will

also reduce the work load at

TLC/Power controller. Many running

rooms are using software for check in

check out position of crew.

5. Daily ‘AAJ KA VICHAR’ ‘vkt dk fopkj ’ may be written

on board which is to be kept at reception for encouragement

of running crew.

6. Complain box may be kept at reception. The key of the

same should be with running room in-charge.



7. Nails of kitchen staff should be properly

clean and well trimmed. It may be

checked weekly by running room in-

charge.

8. Industrial Chimney should be used for

venting hot flue gases or smoke from

boiler, stove, and furnace to the outside

atmosphere. Jhansi Division developed

the heavy duty chimney locally.

9. Heavy Duty (Hotel Grade i.e. more than 1000W)

Mixer Grinder is recommended for use in running

room. It has high productivity and used in commercial

and institutional kitchens.

Special Features of heavy duty mixer grinder is as

follows:

Different sizes for different needs: 1½ Hp, 2 Hp &

3 Hp Motor with 4 Litres, 6 Litres, 10 Litres and

15 Litres Jar.

Safety interlocking between jar and motor

Heavy duty induction motor, continuous duty

motor.

The coupling is metal i.e. hence no wear or tears and long life bearing.

10. Reverse Osmosis (RO) system is a process of

physical separation of dissolved solids and minerals

present in water. This technology uses the principle

of osmosis, wherein the mineral concentration of

raw water is reduced by applying high pressure

through a semi-permeable membrane. The Quality

of purified water produced by Reverse Osmosis

process is roughly a constant percentage of the feed

water i.e. it reduces the TDS of water by 90%



Following care should be taken while selecting RO system:

i. It should be RO with UV.

ii. It should be of industrial grade.

iii. Necessary AMC should also be processed in time.

iv. It should be used only if the TDS of water is on higher side. Many make of RO

system has got inbuilt controller which bypasses the function of membrane, if

TDS of water is low. Thus making function of membrane defunct & only UV

purification is made.

11. Food Safety Management System (FSMS) provides a

preventative approach to identify, prevent and reduce food-

borne hazards. This is to minimize the risk of food

poisoning and to make food safe for consumption. A

well designed FSMS with appropriate control measures can

help food establishments comply with food hygiene

regulations and ensure that food prepared for crew is

hygienic and safe for consumers. Food Safety Management

System is based on ISO 22000:2005

Running Room Ghorpuri, Pune Division,

Central Railway has been certified with ISO: 22000 –

2005. Major principle of the same like washing of

vegetable, prevention of cooked food etc. may be extended

to other running room also.

13. For different taste of breakfast, lunch and dinner menu may be fixed as per day basis. 1st

& 3rd

week and 2nd

plan the contractor of subsidized meals in advance.

14. Lot of energy is being wasted in heating of water for cooking activity.

Arrangement should be made to use pre-heated water by solar energy for

cooking activity.

15. Hot & cold flask may be kept for drinking warm/cold water as per

requirement of weather.

16. Many of the crew is diabetic therefore provision of sugar free tea/special meal may be

made. Tea/coffee vending machine may be provided at running room.

17. Hot water bottle may be kept at reception for those who are

suffering from pain arising out of spondylitis, Sciatica,

arthritis etc.

18. To cater for emergency First aid box including Digital medical equipment like Blood

Pressure, Thermometer, Blood sugar, eye massager etc. may be kept at reception.

20. Plantation may be done around running room building to protect from direct sun.

21. Civil authorities should be approached for removing the liquor shop

near the running room.

22. Bathroom floor should be lower than other floor surface to avoid water entry outside

bathroom

24. Good quality shower may be provided in bath rooms which

give pleasure while bathing.

25. Many products are available in the market with brand thermocool and similar which

blocks the transfer of heat inwards while applied on roofs. Same may be applied on the

roof of the running room to keep the same cool during summer.

26. Similar arrangement like insert key tag may be provided for

energy conservation and electrical safety.

27. Instead of direct lighting defused light/pathway lighting may be

provided in bed rooms.

29. Necessary switches for fan, light, cooler etc. may be provided

on table lamp desk for ease in reach duly taking safety

precaution.

30. Thermostat functioning should be

checked for geyser at regular interval

to avoid any unusual like bursting of

the same. Thermostat checking date

in Sabarmati running room, Western Railway.

served if required by running crew.



48. During seminar many in-charges were having opinion to change the name of running

rooms as the same does not give feeling of belongingness. Zonal Railways may initiate

proposal in this regard if desired so. The proposed names of running room are

iii. Running staff guest house

iv. Running staff rest house

Similarly the name of subsidized meal may be changed to ‘Sahbhagi Bhojan’,lgHkkxh

49. The number of female crew is also increasing therefore suitable facilities may be made.

50. Cow catcher may be provided at main entrance to avoid entry of animals in the campus

of running room. Suitable chemical may be sprayed under cow catcher to remove/re

growth of vegetation.

51. To keep the magazine in order wooden/ steel body stand may be provided in reading

room.

52. The utilization of meditation and yoga

room is found to be very poor. Many

running rooms have arranged lectures by

motivational institutions such as

Ishwaria Prajapita Bharam kumari etc.



53. Many loco pilots complain of not getting sleep. Few running rooms have kept yoga

NIDRA lecture in i-pod to be heard if crew not getting sleep.

54. Industrial vacuum cleaner may be made available for cleaning of carpet in meditation

room.

55. Manning of janitor shall be round the clock.

56. Spot purchase committee for purchasing running room’s should be developed.

57. Wherever possible the same room/bed may be allotted to the loco pilot for sound sleep.

ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL AND GENERAL INFRASTRUCTURE


1. Power back up i. Suitable power back up shall be provided as

per requirement so as to ensure continuous

electric supply to running rooms.

and regular attention shall be given to light and

fan points and other electrical

ii. Thermostat functioning of gyser should be

checked at regular interval to avoid any

unusual like bursting of the same.

iii. MCB should be checked for proper

functioning.

i. Sufficient illumination level shall be ensured in

all areas of running room. The running room

may be provided with T-5 and CFL lamps

extensively in common areas like Verandah,

Reception, Reading Room, Kitchen, Dining

in winter (To be fixed by officer in-charge).

11. Desert cooler and Exhaust

fan

i. Wherever desert cooler are provided should be

checked periodically.

ii. One cooler per room for new running room

iii. One cooler for four person in existing running

rooms

iv. Minimum one exhaust fan shall be provided

per room, if ventilation is not proper.

v. Actual number of fan should be decided

locally.

12. Lockers

Lockers/shelf shall be provided in bed room for

each bed.

13. Provision of lights i. Individual light shall be provided for each cot.

ii. Instead of direct lighting diffused

light/pathway lighting may be provided in bed

rooms.

iii. Night light may be provided at floor level

14.

Foot mat/door mat

i. Individual foot mat shall be provided for each

bed.

ii. Door mats shall be provided at each and every

door as per requirement.

15. Windows & Doors

i. Wire mesh should be fitted on window.

ii. Door should be Panel type.

16. Plug points Plug points shall be provided for mosquito

repellent, pedestal fan, room heater, mobile

charging etc.

17. Room heater Applicable only for cold area at the desertion

office in-charge.

18. Call bell i. Call bell shall be provided one push button/

cubical (Existing running room)

ii. Call bell shall be provided one push button/

room (New Running Room.

19. Pegs for clothes Individual pegs should be provided for each bed.

20. Ventilator Blue colour glasses should be provided in bed

room ventilator

21. Cleaning and hygiene i. Cleaning of room shall be done twice a day

vacation of the occupants.

3. STORE ROOM

i. Provisions

i. Size – 5’ X 6’3” for 10 beds.

ii. Size - 6’6” X 8’ for 50 beds.

iii. Sufficient numbers of shelves of suitable

width should available (some open &

others with lockable doors)

iv. Receptacles for storage of different kinds

of main provisions. (Applicable only where

departmental catering is available).

ii. General Storage

i. Size – 14’ X 8’ for 10 beds.

ii. Size - 27’ X 12’ for 50 beds.

iii. The size of store room may vary depending

upon the size of the running room.

iv. Sufficient numbers of naphthalene tablets

should be used to avoid damage to blankets

& other stock.

v. Steel almirah should be provided for stacking linen materials.

vi. Steel cupboards should be provided for

storage of bed, table linen, blankets etc.

vii. Proper locking arrangement & enough space for spare furniture etc.

4. Rack (with railing) It should be provided on the side wall near the

cooking range.

5. Stools Stool should be available as per requirement.

6. Vegetarian and non

vegetarian kitchen

Separate kitchen should be provided for

vegetarian and non vegetarian food.

7. Cleaning and hygiene i. Cleaning of kitchen shall be done twice a

day.

ii. Menu should be written on board outside the kitchen daily.

iii. Only branded consumables such as edible oil, aata, rice, spices etc. shall be used.

iv. Nails of kitchen staff should be properly

clean and well trimmed.

8. Subsidized meal i. Ben Merry, microwave and steam hot case

should be used for hot & fresh meals/ food to the running staff.

ii. Hot plate should be used.

iii. Subsidized meal should available in all

running rooms.

9. Medical examination of

kitchen staff per year

i. Proper medical of all kitchen staff shall be

ensured.

ii. Use of apron, gloves, nail trimming etc. shall be ensured.

iii. Health & food related stickers to be

displayed.

10. Quarterly visit of doctor Railway doctor should visit the running room and

seek opinion of the occupants about the food and other environmental conditions.

11. Exhaust fan /chimney i. Exhaust fan should be provided

ii. Industrial electrical chimney should be used

for venting hot flue gases or smoke for

comfort of kitchen staff.

12. Mixture Grinder Heavy Duty (Hotel Grade i.e. more than 1000W)

Mixer Grinder is recommended for use in running room.

13. System of garbage

disposal

Separate dustbins shall be provided for disposal

of Bio-degradable and Non-biodegradable

garbage.

14. LPG cylinder back up i. Back up LPG cylinder should be available in exclusive gas room

ii. At many places cooking gas is in shortage.

Possibility of using induction cooker may be explored.

DINING HALL/ROOM

1. Floor Area i. About 20 Sq.ft/person in lay out for 10 beds

ii. About 15 sq. ft /person in lay out for 50 beds

2. Window Wire mesh glazed window should be provided.

3. Doors Half glazed and half paneled swing type door

should be provided

4. Curtain Blue Cotton curtain on spring curtain rod should

be provided on the glazed portion only.

5. Dining table and chair Suitable size dining table and non-folding steel

type (superior quality) and wooden chair for

extremely cold places should be provided.

6. Mosquito Repellent (All

out or similar)

Minimum one number shall be provided. The

number can be increased based on area.

7. Light and Fans i. Sufficient illumination level shall be

ensured in dining hall.

ii. Dining hall may be provided with T-5 and CFL lamps

iii. One fan should be provided for each table.

8. Water purifier and

water cooler

Reverse Osmosis (RO) system with water cooler

should be provided for supply of drinking water.

9. Call bell One push button on each table shall be provided.


1. Bath room i. Bathroom floor should be lower than other floor

surface to avoid water entry outside bathroom.

ii. Good quality shower may be provided in bath

rooms which give pleasure while bathing.

iii. Fresh air fan may be provided in toilet &

bathroom.

2. Lavatory i. Flush type

Both Indian (squatting) type and western

type to be provided.

ii. Dust bin may be kept in toilet to dispose waste

etc.

3. Urinals Auto flush sensor may be provided

in urinals to avoid bad odor.

4. Floor i. Antiskid tiles on floor.

ii. Granite tiles on walls up to 4’6”.

5. Wash basins &

mirrors i. One per 8 beds (up to 50 beds).

ii. One for 10 beds (Beyond 50 bed).

6. Electric water heaters

(Geysers)

i. One for each bathroom.

ii. One standby for each running room.

7. Solar water heater Solar water heater should be provided.

8. General arrangement i. Bath rooms and lavatories should be separate.

ii. The complete bathroom and toilet area should

be tiled with antiskid tiles.

iii. Interior walls of lavatories and closets to be of

granite tiles to a minimum height of 4’6”.

Floor to be of antiskid tiles.

iv. Deodorant tablets must be provided in the

lavatory.

v. All bath rooms must be provided with coat

hooks /hanger

vi. Soap dish holders in sufficient nos.

vii. Liquid soap dispensers should be available

with every wash basins.

viii. Bath rooms soap dispensers should be

available with every wash basins.

ix. Adequate sanitary workers should be

available & earmarked for running room.

x. Arrangement for hanging cloths and towels.





xi. Shower as well as the ordinary tap should be

available.

xii. One three gallon bucket and one mug for each

bathroom.

xiii. Emergency water tanks.

9. Cleanliness i. Material required for sanitary staff should be

provided as per requirement.

ii. Daily cleaning should be done

10. Fresh air fan Fresh air fan may be provided in toilet & bathroom.

11. Availability of

i. Washing machine and iron may be provided in

laundry room.

ii. Hand drier may be available at dining room

and toilet/bathroom also.

READING ROOM/ LOUNGE

1. Doors Doors should be panel type

2. Floor Area i. 30 sq. feet/person for 10 beds layout

ii. 15 sq. feet/person for 50 beds layout

(to be allotted o the basis of the number of beds

plus a margin for increase)

3. News papers &

Magazine

As per Railway Board guide lines.

4. Small library A small library should be maintained, in which GR,

SR, Accident Manual, Trouble Shooting Guide,

operating Manual and similar other books may be kept.

5. TV Sets /Radio Sets /

Music System

If provided then its user shall be closely monitored.

6. Chairs Five for every twenty beds, including one easy chair

should be provided.

7. Ceiling fans It should be decided as per norms given in National

Building Code issued by Bureau of energy

conservation. Optimization table is reproduced on

CAMTECH recommendation serial no 62 page no 98

in this report.

8. Call bell One push button should be provided

9. Wall clock Wall clock shall be provided in the lounge.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

1. Pucca pathway and

illumination from

running room to

lobby

i. Pucca pathway should be made main of station

gate to running room.

ii. Pathway should be covered by plastic sheet.

iii. Plantation should be done on both side of

pathway.

iv. Sufficient illumination should be made from

running room to lobby.



SAFETY AND SECURITY


2. Fire protection

system

i. Adequate number of fire extinguishers shall be

provided.

ii. Ensure availability of round bottom fire buckets

filled with sand & water.

3. First aid box and

training of running

room staff on first

aid and fire fighting

i. First aid box shall be well equipped with

necessary medicines.

ii. Medicines shall be checked periodically for expiry.

iii. Running room staff should be trained in giving

first-aid including contractor staff and use of fire-

fighting equipment.

4. Boundary

wall/fencing

i. Running room should have proper boundary

wall/fencing.

ii. Collapsible gate should be provided with locking

arrangement to ensure security during night.

5. Security i. Round the clock security should be available.

YOGA, MEDITATION AND FITNESS

1. Light music system Light music system should be provided in meditation

room

2. Concentration board Concentration board should be provided in meditation

room such as dhyan bindu, OM etc.

3. Display of

motivational slogans Motivational slogan should be display.

4. Recreation Facilities

(indoor Game etc.)

Indoor game may be provided such as carom, chess etc.

5. Fitness Facilities The following equipment may be kept for fitness-

i. Foot massager for relaxation.

ii. Gym equipment and gym ball

iii. Treadmill equipment

iv. BMI index and weight machine

v. Eye massager

vi. Acupressure equipment

MISCELLANEOUS

1. Lost item A box with name “Return Gift Box” to return the lost

item of crew may be kept at reception.

2. Coir mat Coir mat may be provided in corridor and wall for

cooling of running room.

3. Complain box Complain box may be kept at reception. The key of

the same should be with running room in-charge.

4. Display of important

mobile & DOT

number

Important DOT or mobile phone numbers should be

displayed at appropriate places.



MISCELLANEOUS


5. Female crew Since the numbers of female crew are increasing therefore

suitable facilities may be made.

6. Festival in

running room

Running crew is away from home during festivals also. To

instill the feeling of belongingness, festival may be

organized in running rooms. Fasting meal should also be

served if required by running crew.

7. Sensor Automatic cut off sensor may be provided to save electrical

energy.

8. Energy saving Similar arrangement like insert key tag may be provided

for energy conservation and electrical safety.

9. Hot & cold flask Hot & cold flask may be kept for drinking warm/cold

water as per requirement of weather.

10. Rubber hot

water bottle

Hot water bottle may be kept at reception for those who are

suffering from pain arising out of spondylitis, sciatica,

arthritis etc.

11. Diabetic crew Many of the crew is diabetic therefore provision of sugar

free tea/special meal may be made.

12. Energy audit Energy audit of running room can be carried out.

13. Thermocool Many products are available in the market with brand

thermocool and similar which blocks the transfer of heat

inwards if applied on roofs. Same may be applied on the

roof of the running room to keep the it cool during

summer.

14. Induction cooker At many places cooking gas is in shortage. Possibility of

using induction cooker may be explored

15. Closing of

liquor shop

Civil authorities should be approached for removing the

liquor shop near the running room.

16. Auto sensor in

urinals

Auto flush sensor may be provided in urinals to avoid

bad odor.

17. Cow catcher Cow catcher may be provided at main entrance to avoid

entry of animals in the campus of running room. Suitable

chemical may be sprayed under cow catcher to block/re-

growth of vegetation.

18. Sound sleep i. Many loco pilot complain of not getting sleep. Few

running rooms have kept yoga NINDRA lecture in i-

pod to be heard if crew not getting sleep.

ii. Wherever possible the same room/bed may be allotted

to the loco pilot for sound sleep.

19. Industrial

vacuum cleaner

Industrial vacuum cleaner may be made available for

cleaning of carpet.

20. Smoking Smoking should be strictly prohibited in the campus of

running room

21. Training of

contractor staff

Contractor staff needs training on customer behavior

before deploying on running room.
