Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre – ENVIS Centre organized a programme on ‘CleanerProduction in School and Household’ at Conference Room, GCPC-ENVIS Centre, Gandhinagaron 20th September, 2016.

The programme was organized with objective to spread awareness about waste minimization atdomestic level implementing ‘Cleaner Production’ tools and methods for house hold. We knowthat Water waste, Energy waste, and Food waste generates from the house hold. Water wastegenerates form the flushing the toilet(30%), Having baths & running taps(21%), WashingClothes(13%), Having a shower(12%), Doing the washing up(8%), Watering Garden/ WashingCar, Other(5%), Drinking(4%). Energy waste generates from the unnecessary use of Fan, light,A.C, Refrigerator, Night Lamp. Also, Food Waste generates because of mismanagement of thequantity of food.

The key witness of the programme was Shri Pravinbhai Vaghasiya and Shri HemendrabhaiDave, trustees of Vidhya Bharati Training Sankool. More than 30 primary & secondary schoolwomen teachers from Vidhya Bharti Training Sankool, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabadparticipated in the programme.

The programme started with ‘Saraswati Vandana’ by GCPC-ENVIS team and Participants. Dr.Bharat Jain, Member Secretary, GCPC and Coordinator, ENVIS welcomed the participants. Heshared his experience on field of ‘Cleaner Production’.

He mentioned industrial scenario of Gujarat and effects of pollution to environment and humanhealth due to rapid industrialization. He explained the role of Cleaner Production for WasteMinimization. He mentioned so far many steps have been taken to reduce hazardous wastegeneration, but it is always better to move towards ‘preventive’ approach i.e. (CleanerProduction) rather than ‘curative’. He explained the concept of Cleaner Production using simpleexamples which is helpful in our daily life.

He explained the role and importance of ‘Cleaner Production for domestic waste management’.He also mentioned the ‘existing water scarcity in the world’ and ‘drinking water scenario’ inIndia.

Ms. Disha Bhavsar, Assistant Project Engineer, GCPC made presentation on WaterConservation. She gave information about declining availability of water per capita. Shehighlighted of global water scenario. She also mentioned about how to SAVE WATER.

Shri Kashyap Arya, Assistant Project Engineer, GCPC gave presentation on EnergyConservation. He explained about Solar Energy application at Domestic Level. He gave manyexamples to Save Energy. He explained about importance of energy in human life.

Ms. Priyanka Joshi, Information Office, GCPC-ENVIS made final presentation explaining thescenario of ‘food waste management’, ‘plastic waste management’ including case studies andlive examples. She also highlighted the ‘hazards associated with the usage of mobile includingprecautionary measures for the same. She also showed Video on food waste management.
