Report on Yoga Fest 2019
March 29th -31st , Coimbatore
Yoga Fests 2019 was organized by National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune at Coimbatore, a
major city in the state of Tamil Nadu on 29th – 31st March, 2019 to promote, propagate and
develop Yoga amongst the mainstream of mass and class. The program was sponsored by
Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), New Delhi. The following
Institutes joined NIN in organizing the event
1. Integral Yoga Institute, R.S. Puram, Coimbatore
2. R.K. Nature Cure , Ganapathy, Coimbatore
3. Institute of Heartfullness Meditation
4. Nanda Naturopathy and Yoga Medical College, Erode
The venues for the Fest was Corporation Kalaiarangam and Integral Yoga Institute, R S Puram
Coimbatore. The programs Kalaiarangam was fixed to held between 2.00 PM to 8.00 PM with
all technical sessions/ lectures, stalls, whereas all the practical Yoga sessions were conducted at
Integral Yoga Institute from 9.00 onwards on all the three days of the fest.
Day 1 29/02/19
The fest was started with practical yoga sessions on 29th March at Integral Yoga Institute,
Coimbatore from morning 09.00 AM onwards. As people walked in, Several simultaneous
sessions in groups were conducted for Healthy heart, Back care, Antenatal care, Diabetes and
Stress management. Sessions were also conducted for children, women and elder/senior citizens
separately. Students from Corporation School, R S Puram, and RVS Ayurveda Medical College,
Sulur, Coimbatore also attended the yoga sessions. All the sessions were conducted by QCI
qualified teachers of IYI, hired for the purpose.
Meditation sessions were also conducted by the faculty from the Institute of Heartfullness
meditation. Total of more than 300 participants attended these sessions on first day.

The technical sessions started by 2 PM. At Corporation Kalaiarangam. the other venue for the
Yoga Fest 2019, Coimbatore. First session was taken by Dr Srikumar, Principal, Paranjyothi
Yoga College, Udumalpet. He spoke on Preventive Care through Yoga. He focused on using
yogic practices as a tool for preventive health care. Around 400 people attended the session.
By 3 PM, the second session started on Gunamum Unavum – Yoga vazhi unavu neri (Food
according to Yoga) by Dr Thilagavathy, Secretary, Integral Yoga Institute, Coimbatore.
400 people attended the session.
Instead of Prof. Anbazhagan, Professor, Bharathiar University, who could not come due to
certain administrative reasons, Dr D Sathyanath, Senior Medical Officer, National Institute of
Naturopathy, Pune took the session on Physiology of Pranayama. He explained about the normal
physiology of breathing and effect of practicing pranayama on it. Around 450 people attended
the session.
After a short break, the Inaugural ceremony was started by 5.30PM with a Prayer song by a
student of JSSINYS, Coimbatore followed by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries on the dais.
Dr Reeves Dhas, Principal, Nandha Naturopathy & Yoga Medical College, Erode gave the
welcome address. Dignitaries present on the Inaugural function were:

K Nature Cure Home.
2. Dr. S. Sridharan, Senior mentor, Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai
3. Prof, Swaminathan, Isha Yoga, Coimbatore
4. Dr S T Venkateswaran, HoD- Yoga, Govt Yoga & Naturopathy Medical College,
Chennai
5. Dr Reeves Dhas, Principal, Nandha Naturopathy & Yoga Medical College, Erode
Guests were felicitated by giving a floral bouquet and shawl.
A memento was also given as a token of appreciation to all invited speakers and guests.
Dr O.A Balasubramaniam, gave the inaugural address. He encouraged the students to practice
yoga regularly and appreciated Government’s effort to sensitize masses regarding yoga.
Welcome dance was presented by Ms. Samitha, a student of J.S.S. Institute of Naturopathy and
Yogic Sciences, Coimbatore .
Dr S Sridharan, spoke on transformative power of yoga in individual’s life. He gave his
experience of coming in the field of yoga from a banking profession. His speech was motivating
and informative. Around 450 people attended the session.
Dr S T Venkateswaran, delivered his talk on the topic Yoga for Obesity. He explained in detail
the causes and reasons of obesity. He also told about health risk of being obese. He focused on
yogic management of obesity through Yoga.Around 500 people attended the session.
Prof Swaminathan, Isha Yoga, Coimbatore delivered a talk on Yoga and Contentment. He taught
in a simple way to be content in every situation and to keep stress away. He also briefly
explained how to incorporate Ashtanga yoga in individual’s daily life. 500 people attended the
session.
Students from JSS Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Coimbatore, Nandha
Naturopathy & Yoga Medical College, Erode, Rathinam Engineering College, RVS group of
Institutions including Siddha and Ayurveda medical colleges, Physical Education College and
common public attended the program.
Various institutes and organizations displayed their products and services on all three days from
29/3/19 to 31/3/19 in the stalls provided. Institute of Heartfullness meditation conducted
practical sessions on Meditation to the Participants. A separate stall was provided to the
Directorate of Indian Medicine, Govt. of Tamilnadu which was occupied by Dr. Bhuvaneshwari,
Medical officer at Yoga and Naturopathy at Coimbatore Medical College and team. IEC
materials on Yoga and Naturopathy were displayed.
Day 2 30/03/2019
The day started with yoga sessions in Integral Yoga Institute, meditation session was taken by
the trainers of Heart Fullness Foundation. Yoga for Healthy heart, Back care, antenatal care,
diabetes and stress management was also conducted. 250 people attended the session.
Mr Manikkam, Retd HoD, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalayam, Vivekananda University was
invited to speak on the topic Yogic lifestyle for Modern Society. He explained in detail the
reason for lifestyle disorders and how to prevent it by adopting healthy lifestyle. 350 people
attended the session
Mr Pasukkanna, Kanna Foundation addressed the audience on the topic Anguli Yoga. He
demonstrated various mudras and its benefits. It was an interactive session.

Dr Naveen G.H ,Principal, JSS Institute of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, Coimbatore
spoke on Yoga for Anxiety & Depression. He detailed the causes and symptoms of anxiety and
depression and effects of Yoga in overcoming it. He also told the scientific aspect of Yoga
practices. 350 people attended the session
After a short break for snacks , the session was resumed with, Dr P Saranyan, Medical
Suprintendent, R K Nature Cure Home, Coimbatore who took a session on Importance of
cleansing the body with yogic procedures. He explained in details about the six cleansing
procedures in Yoga and their health benefits. His session was informative and he also shared his
clinical experience regarding the same. 500 people attended the session
Yoga dance was performed by the students of JSS Institute of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences,
Coimbatore.
Dr Sivaraman, Managing Director and chief siddha physician of Arogya Siddha Hospital,
Chennai took a session on Yoga for better health. His session was interactive and the audience
enjoyed listening to him. His talk was more of encouragement and motivation for the younger
generation. He also focused on the ill effects of gadgets in our lives. 600 people attended the
session.
Day 3 31/03/2019
The day started with practical yoga sessions at Integral Yoga Institute, Coimbatore from morning
10 AM to 1 PM. Several sessions were going on simultaneously for Healthy heart, Back care,
antenatal care, diabetes and stress management. Sessions were also conducted for children,
women and elder/senior citizens separately. 300 people attended the session
Yoga Quiz was organized for the students of Yoga & Naturopathy from nearby areas. 8 colleges
participated in the quiz, the questions on spiritual, philosophical, scientific and therapeutic
aspects were asked. S-VYASA University secured the first position, GYNMC, Chennai and
SRKMC were second and third respectively.

A session on meditation by Heart Fullness Foundation was conducted, where audience in the
auditorium practically experienced the technique of meditation taught by them. It was a good
session. 300 people attended the session
After a Short break for snacks the session resumed with Dr Shilpa Shah, Director, Swasti Clinic,
Coimbatore. She spoke on Yoga for Happiness. She made the students realize their real
happiness and explained about temporary and sustained happiness. It was an informative session.
500 people attended the session
Students of SDM college of Naturopathy and Yoga Medical Sciences, Ujire, Karnataka while
demonstrating Nauli and other practices of Yoga on the fest
Artistic Yoga was performed by Padma Shri V Nanammal and her team. Four generations of the
same family was performing on the stage which was mesmerizing. Padma Shri V Nanammal was
also felicitated for her service in the field on Yoga during Valedictory Function.

Chief guest for the Valedictory function was Mr K Ramasamy, Chairman, Roots group of
companies, President, Swami Satchidananda Foundation. Other dignitaries present were Swami
Marudachala Adigalar, Perur Adheenam, Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Director, Centre for
Yoga therapy, Education and Research, Pondicherry. Dr Reeves J Dhas, Principal Nandha
Naturopathy & Yoga Medical College, Dr Thilagavathy, Secretary, Integral Yoga Institute, Dr.
D Sathyanath, Senior Medical Officer, NIN,Pune were present on behalf of the organizing
committee.
Padma Shri V Nanammal was felicitated by the Chief guest Mr K Ramasamy.
All the distinguished guests were felicitated on the dais on their arrival by presenting a floral
bouquet and a shawl. Dr D Sathyanath, Senior Medical Officer, NIN,Pune gave the welcome
address. Trophy and certificates were distributed to the students of Yoga Quiz winners by the
hands on chief guest Mr K Ramasamy, Chairman, Roots group of companies, President, Swami
Satchidananda Foundation. QCI trainers from Integral Yoga Institute, Coimbatore were also
felicitated by the hands of Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Director, Centre for Yoga therapy,
Education and Research, Pondicherry.
Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Director, Centre for Yoga therapy, Education and Research,
Pondicherry spoke on stress management through yoga, he taught various techniques of laughing
the stress away. His presentation was holding everyone’s attention during the session. It was an
interactive session. 550 people attended the session
