Dear friends, colleagues and partners !The past year of 2013 has proven that Ukrainians are not indifferent to the future of their country. They want to decide their fate on their own and are able to do that at their best. Ukrainians have shown that they are willing to act decisively, protecting their indigenous right to be called a European nation. They have proven that they will not be silent witnesses to the lawlessness and corruption in their country, of the cultural and moral degradation of their government.

A definite fact is that a new generation of Ukrainians has come of age, a generation that believes in their own strength and is not will-ing to tolerate injustice. This generation considers democracy as a prerequisite for their lives. They can change not only their country, but also restore faith in the common and prosperous future of the whole European continent, of which our country is an integral part.

The Open Ukraine Foundation is proud that projects implemented by the Foundation continually open Ukraine, particularly its people and culture, to the world. Our international projects provide an opportunity to rethink Ukraine’s place in the world – what we should seek for and what international experience we should take into account. We create a platform for dialogue between Ukrainian and foreign partners with regard to the future of Ukraine and Europe, their mutual development and security.

Year by year, we involve more and more young people in our projects. Their enthusiasm and persistence give confidence that Ukraine will change soon. Reforms must be accomplished to improve the lives of citizens. Everyone has to be equal before the law. Law en-forcement authorities must protect ordinary people, not the government. This is what Ukraine should be.

The Open Ukraine Foundation made its contribution to building such a country in 2013. However, we will keep on leading the charge, since there is much work to do and many interesting projects ahead that will bring our European future closer to fruition.

I am grateful to everyone who helps the Open Ukraine Foundation, its partners and friends. Together we can conquer the most difficult tasks!

Sincerely Yours,

Arseniy Yatsenyuk

On 22-23 November 2013 Kyiv hosted the 2nd Kyiv Security Forum for Youth. The objective of this event is to create a platform for discussion by young experts on the pressing issues of inter-national relations and foreign policy of Ukraine.

The Forum of this year was dedicated to theme «Good Govern-ance: the only Way to the EU?», during which international experts spoke on why the absence of rule of law and the curbing of cor-ruption as well as a lack of transparency and accountability by public authorities to the society cannot bring Ukraine closer to the EU.

The event brought together young specialists from over 15 countries. Speeches were delivered by experienced experts from Austria, the United Kingdom, Georgia, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Switzerland, as well as diplomats and representatives of inter-national organizations in Ukraine (the EU, UN, NATO, OSCE, the World Bank etc.).

Tereziya YATSENYUK,

Ukrainians will surely become members of the European community».

Nataliya NEMYLIVSKA,

Director of the NATO Information and Documenta-tion Center in Ukraine highlighted the timeliness of the Forum and noted that this event is called upon to facilitate a deeper understanding of the current situation and mechanisms in the sphere of efficient strategies for combating corruption.
