3 REPORT TO DONORS 2011-2012

Dear Friends:

It is with great pleasure that I add my personal thanks to Chris Tompkins’s comments regarding the

Perkiomen Fund. As you know, annual giving at any independent school is critical to the school’s success,

which translates to the success of our students and faculty each year.

As an alumnus and past parent of Perkiomen School, I have made Perkiomen a philanthropic priority

in my life. I am passionate about the life-changing education the school provides and supportive of

its mission to inspire students to risk becoming their best. Of course, I believe firmly that each of us

– parents, alumni, trustees, and friends of the school should be just as passionate as the students and

faculty are about the school.

As I look to the future of the school with my fellow trustees and through the leadership of Headmaster

Christopher Tompkins and his administrative team, I see a school on the move. While these post-2008

years have presented issues for many schools in the United States, Perkiomen has flourished with strong

enrollment, expanding academic programs, excellent college matriculation results, and upgraded facilities.

While we have accomplished a great deal, we must recognize that the school has many needs going

forward. With the help of dedicated alumni, families, and friends of Perkiomen, we can meet our

strategic planning goals for the future. Perkiomen must construct new dormitories in the near term

to accommodate students in modern residential centers that encourage academic success. We must

completely renovate Parents Hall to reflect the needs of students and the great work accomplished by

the SODEXO team that operates our food service. We must also improve our Center for the Arts and

constantly maintain our beautiful facilities.

As the 2012-2013 year progresses, we will be moving forward with plans to build new dorms and

upgrade Parents Hall. Your help will go a long way to support our students today and well into the future.

As you review your philanthropic plans for the future, I hope you will keep Perkiomen high on the list of

your priorities. Always remember what Benjamin Franklin once said: “An investment in education pays

the best interest.”

Sincerely,

James E. Schulz ’81, P ’02, ’10

Letters of Appreciation

Dear Perkiomen Community:

On behalf of The Perkiomen School, I thank you for your ongoing and generous support during the

2011-2012 school year. As of June 30, 2012, the Perkiomen Fund stands at $320,881 in unrestricted

dollars with total giving for the year of $357,378.

The Perkiomen Fund, which supports every aspect of our annual operating budget, exceeded the

budgeted goal. With the support of our loyal donors and the growth of The Perkiomen Fund, we continue

to provide improved opportunities and services for our students each and every day.

During the 2011-12 school year, Perkiomen Fund dollars inspired many projects. By far the largest

campus project was the transformation of the Huttel Natatorium. While it was not glamorous work, it

was extensive. The Natatorium has been outfitted with an entirely new HVAC system to maintain the

proper humidity and temperature for the swimming pool area. The pool itself was repaired, eliminating a

long-existing leak below the concrete pool bottom. Additionally, new lighting has been installed and the

entire space has been painted including the ceiling. This was one of those thirty-year projects that will

ensure uninterrupted use of the pool for many years ahead. In 2011-2012 support from alumni, families,

and trustees of the school allowed us to create a new student lounge, upgrade the wireless network across

campus, enlarge the Office of College Counseling, restore the ash track circling the Freeman Football and

Girl’s Lacrosse Field, and paint the trim on school houses that line Second Street.

The Perkiomen Fund also provides opportunities to support faculty professional development. Six

faculty members participated in PLP (Powerful Learning Practices), a program that prepares faculty

members to become technology trainers for their colleagues. Three department chairs have begun a

year-long ADVIS program titled, Leading From the Middle. Two went to New Castle, England for the

5th International Plagiarism Conference sponsored by Higher Education Academy. Three attended Final

Site U. for website development training. Other faculty took courses in their respective subject areas,

including College Board sponsored AP’s; and still others attended a variety of seminars and professional

conferences that included Independent School Teaching in the 21st Century. Also, with the strategic goal

to have sixty-five percent of faculty and staff with advanced degrees, the School continues to support

progress toward degree attainment.

Perkiomen is fortunate to garner such strong support. As we look to grow our Annual Fund, we are

thankful for the love that our alumni, families, and friends have for Perk. Again, thank you to all of our

loyal donors. Your support enables us to inspire students to risk becoming their best.

Best wishes,

Christopher R. Tompkins P ’15, ’19

Roll Call of DonoRs by ConstituenCyUNRESTRICTED GIfTS To pERkIomEN fUND oNLY

Thank you to the anonymous donor to the Perk Fund.

During the 2011-12 campaign, a stock gift of 16 shares of NCR

stock was received by our brokerage firm. The gift was applied

to the perk fund.

Unfortunately, neither the brokerage firm nor perkiomen knows who the

donor was. please accept our thanks for your generous gift.

Giving a gift of securities is one of the easiest ways to support the perk

fund, the Endowment fund, or a Capital project at The perkiomen School.

Using appreciated securities can provide the maximum benefit for perkiomen

at a minimum cost to you.

To make a gift of securities, you or your broker should contact

us with the following information:

• The name of the donor

• The name of the securities you wish to give

• The number of shares

• How you would like the gift designated

• The name and contact information of your broker

The easiest way to transfer securities is via DTC transfer: This allows you to

authorize your broker to transfer shares held in street name to The perkiomen

School’s account at The Northern Trust Company.

Your broker needs the following information regarding

Perkiomen’s account:

• participant Number (DTC): 2669

• The Northern Trust Company

• Trust Department

• RE: perkiomen School Account # 23-58617

If you have any questions, please contact karl Welsh, Director of

Development at 215-679-1157.
