To our 4-H Family,Thank you for continued support of 4-H. With your help, this year nearly 350,000 Wisconsin youth were able to participate in programs ranging from after school activities in at-risk neighborhoods, to leadership development or livestock activities.

To keep 4-H strong, we must stretch government funding, club dues and program fees with private funding from the foundation. Thank you for being part of the solution!

As we close the books on 2013, we celebrate our accomplishments:

• Last year, we increased cash support of 4-H programs to $132,000. Of this, $80,000 is a “block grant” for our state program director to use where the need is greatest: $16,000 went to scholarships/awards and $36,000 went to specific donor-designated programs such as Upham Woods Camp, dairy activities or volunteer training.

• Over the last two years, our general endowment increased by $256,000. Interest earned on the endowment will be a permanent source of support for 4-H programs.

• Several counties moved their endowments to our Foundation, raising our total county fund balance to more than $400,000 and building relationships with seven counties. The money will be administered as a separate fund in each county’s name.

• We thank Patrick Link, Len Bayer, Krista Knigge and Roy Wilson for their outstanding board service and welcome three new board members: Jill Nieskes, Goldman Sachs; Laura Herschleb, Badgerland Financial; and Jeanne Baum, appointee of the Retired 4-H Agents Association.

• Lastly, in January 2014 we moved our staff from an independent contractor model to direct employees. We thank Kristi Thering-Tuschen and Sheryl Albers for their work and wish them well in their new positions in the insurance industry and the state capitol, and we are pleased to introduce you to Director of Development Brenda Lobdell Scheider and Administrative Manager Lisa Buchanan. They will be contacting many of you to learn about your 4-H involvement, but feel free to reach out to them meanwhile.

We thank you for being part of our building success.

Valerie Johnson Wisconsin 4-H Foundation Board President

Thank you so much for supporting me during my amazing experience. I loved windsurfing, even though I was in the water most of the time I am also very interested in the STEM program, and I am seriously considering going into the biomedical engineering field. – Madeline McGauley, Dodge County

Youth conference was a lot of fun. It helped me get out of my shell. All the conference were great. Thank you all my teachers; I learned quite a bit, and I plan on sharing with my community. Also the YLC members are awesome, as are the other groups – especially the Showcase Singers! – Sierra Evans, Fond du Lac County

I want to be a doctor. All the medial seminars I took helped me experience and learn vital things in the path to becoming a doctor. Thank you for helping me accomplish my goals. 4-H has been an amazing opportunity to learn and grow. Thanks! – Miriam Lyons, Price County

Thank you! State teams, advisors and adult staff. You all put a lot of effort into this week to make it a great experience for all us youth. Most of all you guys helped me find a new interest, new ways to interact with others, be a good leader and all the other possibilities under the sun! This whole conference you all put the time and effort into has made me want to create, explore, lead, etc. in 4–H in my club and county. – Justine Mangles, Rusk County

To the 4-H Foundation I would like to express my most sincere thank you for your support to the youth of Wisconsin 4-H. 4-H is a wonderful youth organization which helps develop the future leaders of Wisconsin and the county. Leadership, community service, commitment, responsibility all building better citizens of our youth! Thank you for your continued support! – from a proud parent & adult leader

Thank you for supporting the 4-H Youth Conference. This conference has been a wonderful learning experience. It has provided life skills for the youth and adults attending the conference. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. – Sally Chapman, North Scott 4-H

Thank you very much for supporting the 4-H Youth Conference. I had a great time and enjoyed all my seminars. This conference has helped me grow as a leader and as a person. I’ve made so many new friends while I was here – Alli Dunne

This conference was one of the coolest things that I have ever done in 4-H It really showed me how I can be a leader and someone who can inspire others to do their best. My dream is to be a Showcase Singer… without 4-H, I couldn’t do that. Thank you! – Beth Bandli, Dane County

Dear Wisconsin 4-H Foundation, thank you for everything that you do to help keep this camp running. My personal experiences at this conference has influenced my life dramatically. Here I’ve gotten so many opportunities to do fun things with other people just like me. Everyone here gets an equal opportunity to do things they want to with others that have the same interests. Thank you for helping with camp for us delegates. – Courtney Wille, Rock County

Thank you for all the support you give to make the WI Youth Conference possible. I had a great time meeting fellow 4-H peers from around the state and learning ideas for leadership and community service. I hope to come back next year as a member of YLC. Thank you! – Joelle Bohringer, Grant County

Exploring the Possibilities 2013 WI 4-H YOUTH CONFERENCEThese are the words from the youth participants and adult leaders that attended the 2013 conference. This is an example of just one of the events your generous donation help to support.
