REPORTING CRITERIA 2017

1REPORTING CRITERIA: REPORTING DEFINITIONS FOR ASSURANCE, 2017

Notes on KPI measurement

KPI Definition

Production: Total External Sales(Kiloton (Kt))

External sales of product are all products produced by our Operating Model Entities (OMEs) and sold to customers outside of the Sasol group of companies.

Total Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions(Kiloton (kt))

Direct carbon emissions that occur from sources that are owned or controlled by the company, for example, emissions from combustion in owned or controlled boilers, furnaces, vehicles, etc., emissions from chemical production in owned or controlled process equipment.

Total Scope 2: Electricity indirect GHG emissions(Kiloton (kt))

Scope 2 indirect carbon emissions are emissions associated with purchased electricity consumed by the company. Purchased electricity is defined as electricity that is purchased or otherwise brought into the organisational boundary of the company. Scope 2 emissions physically occur at the facility where electricity is generated.

Total Scope 3: Other indirect GHG emissions(Kiloton (kt))

Scope 3 is an optional reporting category that allows for the treatment of all other indirect carbon emissions separate to Scope 2 emissions. Scope 3 emissions are a consequence of the activities of the company, but occur from sources not owned or controlled by the company. The Scope 3 emissions reported in this report are only those from air travel to and from Mozambique.

Total greenhouse gases (GHG) (Kilotons (kt))

The sum of Total Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions; Total Scope 2: Electricity indirect GHG emissions; and Total Scope 3: Other indirect GHG emissions.

Total greenhouse gases (GHG) (Kilotons carbon equivalent (kt CO2e))

The sum of greenhouse gas (Scope 1, 2 and 3), methane and nitrous oxide emissions emitted as CO2 equivalents.

GHG intensity (rate)

Total greenhouse gases (GHG) as kilotons carbon equivalent (kt CO2e) per Kiloton (kt) of production: Total external sales.

Total methane (CH4) (tons (t))

Methane emitted to atmosphere as a result of the combustion of coal, other fuels, to generate electricity, process steam and process heat, as well as the gasification process, mine venting, stockpiling and associated chemical transformation processes.

Total direct nitrous oxide (N2O) (tons (t))

Nitrous oxide emitted to atmosphere as a result of the combustion of coal, fertiliser production, fuels used for the generation of electricity, process steam and process heat, as well as the gasification process and associated chemical transformation processes.

Total energy use (thousand GJ)

Energy use is the sum of all energy consumed.Note: Resources that are primarily raw material inputs for manufacturing processes (eg, crude oil for refining) are not considered energy uses, even though energy transformations are involved in the reactions and production processes.

Total material use(Kiloton (kt))

Material use refers to the mass of raw material feedstock inputs (i.e. coal, crude oil, direct nitrogen from air, oxygen from air, gas and all other raw material feedstock inputs) for the manufacture of product.

Recordable Case Rate (RCR) The RCR measure as the Group’s RCR performance at OME and Group level.

Exposure hours The total numbers of hours our employees or service providers have spent in the work environment, defined to be Sasol premises where the employee or service provider is potentially exposed to harm, while engaged in work activities.

2REPORTING CRITERIA: REPORTING DEFINITIONS FOR ASSURANCE, 2017

KPI Definition

Recordable injuries The sum of fatalities, LWDCS, RWC and MTCs.

Fatalities A work-related fatality is an instantaneous work-related event or exposure, leading to death.

Significant FERs A process safety incident with a severity index greater than or equal to 40. An incident resulting in a fatality or multiple serious hospitalisations.

Significant transport incidents A transport incident with a severity index greater than or equal to 40; or an incident resulting in a fatality or multiple serious hospitalisations.

Total water use The sum of water used by the Group from all sources including the following:

River water: The volume of water, used for own consumption withdrawn from natural rivers.

Desalinated water: The volume of water, used for own consumption, which has undergone the process of removing salt and other minerals from the water.

Potable water: The volume of water, used for own consumption purchased from external utility providers.

Other water: Water used from places other than defined above.

Water recycled The processing of used water and wastewater through another cycle before discharging to final treatment and discharge.

Particulates: Fly ash Emissions of fly ash from coal processing.

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) Oxides of nitrogen measured in tons per annum to be reported as total NOx, including NO and NO2.

Sulphur oxides (SOx) Airborne emission of sulphur and its compounds formed during combustion or production processes. Sulphur oxide (SOx) is the sum of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and sulphur trioxide (SO3) emissions to air.

Total waste The sum of waste managed from all sources: (hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste and recycled waste).

Hazardous waste Hazardous waste which has a potential to adversely impact human health and the environment (i.e. decanted oil, cooling tower sludge, dry sulphur, citric acid etc.). Hazardous waste is disposed at a licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.

Non-hazardous waste Non-hazardous waste (includes general and inert waste) is waste that, due to its inherent properties, does not pose a risk to the environment or human health. Non-hazardous waste is disposed at a licensed non-hazardous waste disposal facility.

Number of employees receiving leadership training

Total number of employees who received leadership training for the period ended 30 June 2017.

Number of employees in Sasol’s maintenance artisan learner pools

Total number of active maintenance learners in the pool for the period ended 30 June 2017.

Employee turnover Voluntary and non-voluntary terminations as a percentage of average headcount for the period ended 30 June 2017. This excludes hired labour, learners and bursary holders.
