all these and more gave life to their Easter pebbles.

Followed by this, we had a special assembly on Easter held in the auditorium. A speech on Easter was

Muskaan Mahajan also shared a small poem on the meaning of Easter which added more colors to this

festival. Then the children were shown a PowerPoint presentation on Easter being celebrated in different

countries around the world. This was indeed informative and loved by all the children.

The Easter Day celebrations were indeed fun-filled! The active participation of all children did make this

festival as colorful as a rainbow or should I say an Easter brownie……..!!

etched in the minds and hearts of all who witnessed it. Every item be it the choir songs brimming

with patriotic fervour to the fusion dance depicting the robust Punjabi culture to the divine

welcome song to the soulful Bezubaan sequel to the hypnotic Alien dance – each had a special

sensitivity and meaning to it. The function was not the formal showcasing of conventional sentiments; it

was replete with the genuine love for the motherland coupled with Mother Earth which was re-

enforced fully when a senior grader pleaded with the gathering to pray for the Earth as much as they

do for their country. The „proud to be Indian‟ emotion was the common thread underlying the

dances, the choir songs, the medley of songs and the fashion show. The auditorium resounded with the

high octane energy of the performers and the rhythmic dance steps. The tricolours formed a tasteful

part of the costumes, stage props, backdrop and the artists‟ make-up and roused a tumultuous feeling of

pride in the audience.

Founder‟s Day is the most eagerly awaited and most sought after annual observance in the annals of

Shalom Hills International School. Every year, on this day, the school pauses to acknowledge its rich

past, honour it‟s Founder-Managing Director and celebrate its achievements. The cultural

extravaganza that was put up on

13th August‟13 by the students sketched a salute to the school‟s glorious past,

present and promising future. The festivities aimed at promoting an understanding of the vision of its

Founder-Managing Director and the remembering the rich legacy of the school and the country.

riveting dance sequels and a „knockout‟ fashion show, the students showcased their

talent while paying a loving tribute to their beloved M.D ma‟am. The function was graced by the

Managing Director, Vice-Chairman and other members of the management.

cataloguing the school‟s recent successes, the cultural show commenced with a welcome

dance paying an evocative obeisance to God. The function was confidently hosted by senior grade

students who kept the audience involved through their gripping dialogues and light-hearted banter. A

patriotic dance presented by the students was a virtual odyssey depicting India‟s past from its

ancient heritage to its enslavement by the Britishers to its euphoric Independence peppered with the

horror of the partition. Through mesmerizing choreography and flawless dance movements, the students

conveyed the exultant message of India‟s emergence as a rising global power. The patriotic fervour

with which the junior students danced in a fusion dance had the gathering clapping loudly for them

and cheering for their country.

The Founder‟s Day is always replete with something unusual and „out-of-the-box‟. Expectedly, the

senior students delivered an unexpected punch through breath- taking choreography and theme-

based dance extravaganza. Aliens with their authentic Avataar look took the breath away as much

with the flawless and lithe dance movements as with their costume and knockout make-up. Another

hypnotic dance was put up by the students on „Bezubaan‟ and the gripping dance sequel, expressive

movements and play of facial emotions made it a truly unforgettable performance.

Thunderous applause reverberated in the hall when the junior students‟ brigade came jiving on a

medley of old belt-busters. The emotional quotient of the festivities was delightfully laced with the

presentation of a book dedicated to the founder- Managing Director by the Shalom faculty along with

the unveiling of her portrait lovingly prepared by the Fine Arts Department of the school.

which included an endearing skit, a runaway fashion show and dance performance. The little cherubs

Onam is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the people of Kerala. Children of grades I-II

especially those who hail from the southern part of India participated in these celebrations by dressing

up in the traditional Onam dresses. The school wore a festive air with Onam music playing in the

reception area; floral rangoli designs, traditional decorations and miniature banana trees adding

beauty and piquancy to the celebrations.

significance of different festivals and they learn to develop tolerance and respect for traditions of

other communities by joining in their festivals. On the occasion of Onam celebrations, the children of all

Teacher‟s Day celebrations in Shalom Hills International

School on 5th September‟13

Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members of society because their

professional and personal efforts affect the fate of the earth. ~ Helen Caldicott

In Shalom Hills International School, Teacher‟s Day is the day when one can look back, admire and

get inspired by Dr. Radhakrishnan, a small town boy, who grew up to become one of the most respected

politicians and revered national leader in the history of post Independence India.

Yet another reason why Teacher‟s Day is eagerly awaited by both the taught and the tutors is that

on this day students realize what it means to be a teacher and what it means to control the future of

several students in their classes and also teachers are reminded what it felt like when they were the

students and at the same time, they realize that teaching is a true calling from God and re-

dedicate themselves to this noblest of all professions.

Most importantly, in Shalom Hills International School it was a fun-dappled and excitement dotted day

with the dear students having planned a day of riotous enjoyment for their much loved teachers. The

celebrations planned by the Student‟s Council on 5th

Sept‟13 were laced with emotional and fun quotient in equal measures. The songs, games and poems dedicated to the teachers were a true index of

the close rapport and special connect that exists between the teachers and the students of Shalom Hills.

The non-stop entertainment planned for the teachers did not end with the cultural programme presented

by the senior graders, it only paved way for an exclusive „fun party‟ planned for the teachers after the

students left. One interesting game after the other spiced up the festivities with the dance and music

teachers adding more liveliness to the programme through their dances and songs. A sumptuous lunch

was relished by the teachers who appreciated the management and the school principal for not only

the day‟s special celebrations but also for making teaching in Shalom

Hills „a truly „once in a lifetime‟ experience for all the faculty members.
