Request for Proposal GENERAL – Raze Henry Sabin School Survey Services (UI #0483501) University of Iowa October 1, 2013 Survey Services The University of Iowa intends to retain a land surveyor for a site survey of the Henry Sabin School Property. The survey limits shall be the Henry Sabin School property plus to the centerline of the right-of- ways of Harrison Street at the north, Dubuque St to the east, the full-width of the alleyway to the west, and Prentiss Street to the south, but excluding the property at 118 E Prentiss Street. The included site map (Figure 1) shows the limits of the desired topographical survey which shall include the following: A. Format of Deliverable: 1. Provide a CD rom disk wih the following: a. Two File Formats: 1). If used, provide a three-dimensional CADD file format (Civil-3D file-format for example). 2). A standard AutoCad file format (version 2013), with any special symbols shapes, line types, or otherwise to be converted, flattened, exploded, etc to allow them to be viewable in standard AutoCad environment. b. CADD file layers must be checked to insure that the correct information is on each individual layer prior to providing disk. Drawing shall conform to UI layer standards. c. Raw survey data shall be collected and provided in an industry-standard file format. 2. Provide four 22” x 34” hard copies of the final survey at a scale to be determined by the design professional. One copy shall have a wet-ink original signature of the licensed professional. The University of Iowa Project Manager will check the survey for completeness of information and return a marked-up copy to the Surveyor. Any information not included or in error shall be revised at no additional cost in a timely manner. Any information that is found during the design phase will be provided in a timely manner at no additional cost to the Owner. B. Type of survey 1. Topographic survey as described below. 2. C. The following information shall be provided:

4. Easements – All utility, city, and private easements shall be shown and labeled. Owner(s) shall provide Surveyor information regarding all private easements not of public record. Any types of easements not researched must be noted on survey and design professional notified.

5. Setbacks – Building and parking setbacks shall be shown and noted for each property or zoning areas. A copy of the City’s zoning ordinance regarding setbacks in each zoning area shall be provided.

6. Trees, Shrubs, and Planting Areas: All trees 2” caliper and larger shall be labeled with caliper and species. All tree canopies shall be accurately shown. For the trees on the adjacent steep embankments, only the location of the trees within 10’ vertically above the adjacent parking lot & driveways need to be located.

7. All above grade structures including but not limited to buildings, paving, paving types, limits, utility structures, and other site features shall be shown and noted. Paving and curb materials and transition areas shall be noted.

8. All above grade utilities, including but not limited to overhead electrical, telephone, cable, street lighting, and other electrical and communications equipment; location and rim elevations of sanitary and storm sewer structures, water main valves, and hydrants; gas valves and all other above grade utility equipment.

9. All underground utilities, including but not limited to storm, sanitary, water, gas, telephone, electrical, and cable. Rim elevation, bottom of manhole, and all in and out inverts of utilities shall be noted.

Note: If any of these utilities do not exist within or directly adjacent to the survey area, Surveyor shall locate the nearest available service connection which can be used for future service to site.

10. Provide on the survey a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers of all applicable utility companies.

11. Contours at a maximum of 1’ intervals. 12. Spot elevations shall also be noted at 20’ intervals along adjacent

street curb lines. 13. Location and number of parking spaces 14. The coordinate system used shall be: State Plane, Iowa South,

U.S. feet. 15. The datum used shall be: NAD83(2011) for both horizontal and

vertical."

D. Selection of the consultant will be based upon the submitted proposal. As a minimum, the proposal should include:

1. Project team’s experience with surveys in general, and surveys performed at the

University of Iowa. 2. Cost to perform the work in accordance to the requirements stated herein.

E. No interviews will be conducted for the selection of the consulting firm. Firms for which additional information is requested will be contacted. The final survey shall be completed and submitted for review no later than November 15th.

F. Responses to this RFP shall not exceed a total of 10 pages including the UI standard letter proposal format (use special services section) available for download at the following URL:
