IntroductionOn November 21, 2011, a questionnaire was emailed to the entire staff about the subject on decrease in productivity at work. The staff was offered the option of responding by email or mailing the questionnaire back to the office if they wished to remain anonymous. Majority of the staff responded: 80% by email, 10% written memo, while 10% did not respond. The questionnaire addresses the problems that are causing a decrease in productivity and the need to make changes as soon as possible, as we are no longer able to compete in today's job market. The problemThe major issue is due to half of our employees taking time off from work, simply for doctor appointments. Most of the staff's medical problems are associated with inactivity and work related accidents due to weight gain, which produces a lack of energy to be pro active. One staff member restated how her doctor described her weight gain/obesity during an appointment as a disability as an individual problem of disease, incapacity, and impairment. The question was to either provide a gym membership or create an on-site workout facility. The staff unanimously preferred having an on-site workout facility, as gym memberships can become quite costly and many require a long term contract. Some of our staff who have had a gym membership in the past have indicated that the gym can become too crowded. You have to wait in line to use equipment and sometime the fitness classes are too crowded, which makes it difficult to do workouts. In addition, we feel our basement, currently, has no useful purpose. An online comparison of a gym layout diagram from gymsource.com, as followed, represents how our basement can be efficiently used to create an on-site workout facility.RecommendationBefore converting our basement into an on-site workout facility, such as this online design by "Club Gym Site", there are some key points to observe: Free design and consulting serviceEquipment orientationEquipment service and preventative maintenance servicesExtended warranty programsHaving one source for all our product and service need (Gym)HR Guidebook for Establish on site fitness rooms or exercise facilities suggested that we buy and read these two books before implement: ACSMs Health/Fitness Facility Standards & Guidelines, Second Ed., American College of Sports Medicine, 1992.Health Fitness Management, A Comprehensive Resource for Managing and Operation Programs and Facilities, by William C. Granthan/Robert W. Patton/Tracy D. York/Mitchel L. Winick, Human Kinetics, 1989. (HR)The Staff BenefitExecutive assistant employees know the meaning of being able to be fit to do the job.
