PRINCIPAL REPORT

Dear Parents,

Here we are again at the end of a term, and what a term it was! As I write this newsletter today, I think back to this time last year when I was full of trepidation about what was to come of my appointment at Research Primary School. You gave me a run for my money with your curious questions, feedback, ideas and stories. It really was like jumping into the frying pan and despite my smile, you made me sweat, and so you should! Being a Principal is a pretty important job and I needed to learn your context quickly. As the months rolled on, the trust grew further and just like that, I was suddenly a part of the Research Primary School family. We have achieved a lot together team. Building relationships in the community, building our school profile and school pride, high expectations and every minute counts have become a part of our culture, restorative practices, a potential buildings project, and our prep enrolment have increased. We continue to offer an outstanding program for our kids and they are achieving both academically and personally. Is there still work to do? Of course, there will be forever, however, we are certainly heading in the right direction. Thank you for all of your contributions, feedback and ideas, transparency and most importantly your communication. “You don’t get harmony when everyone sings the same note”, Steve Honey. This community makes a great team.

Production fever has officially hit us and I am sure that you are all as excited as I am to watch both the P – 2 and the 3 – 6 shows. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has chipped in to make these evenings happen – parents and friends, students and teachers. A big, special thanks goes to Avril, however, as she has been working around the clock as our director, producer, acting and singing coach, lights, camera and sound and everything else lady. What a talent.

Another super event that we have coming up is our school fundraiser, the colour run. I am still trying to source my white dress but I’m sure that I will be able to pull something out of my hat. It should be a really fun day for everyone and all of the money raised is going towards making our yard a much better place. So please sponsor up! I promise you that I will be hitting up my entire family for cash this week.

On the note of fundraising, I would like to invite you to please put in your fundraising ideas for next year. The office has forms and can help you to fill them in on the spot if you are unsure of what to do. I know that so many of you have excellent new ideas because you tell me. I can’t remember them all so please come in and grab a form. Also, on this note, I am planning to have a meeting in term 4 to discuss the 2019 fete so please keep your eyes open for communication regarding this. It will not be able to go ahead unless we have enough people on board to help out.

I look forward to seeing you at all of our big events over the next fortnight. Please enjoy and celebrate our many talents. Have a wonderful and safe break and make the most of your time together. The spring weather should help with that.

See you when we get back, Ms Vale, Principal

JAPANESE TRADITIONAL COMEDIAN SHOWKO CAME TO RPS!

All the students enjoyed the performance of Showko on Tuesday 21st August. The performance started with tamasudare, traditional stick shape making. Students then learned how to eat imaginary food with a Japanese folding fan and towel. Some lucky students made a big fish with connected sticks and demonstrated their skills to hold an imaginary bowl and to eat imaginary noodle. After that, Showko did a traditional style comedy with puppets; ninja, sushi master and a big cucumber sushi. It was fun and the students had a great time. Hiroko Mori, Japanese Teacher

Another day of fun and sportsmanship was had at Nunawading Stadium last week with the 5/6 Hooptime round robin. Enormous thanks to Katie, Mrs Watts and Luke H who helped out coaching and to Mrs Babic and the parents attending on the day who scored and cheered tirelessly. Also a big thank you to Sjouke, Riley, Mathew and Logan from G4 who didn't hesitate to step up and join us when a couple of teams were short of players.

All 6 of our teams entered performed very well over the course of the tournament, with skills improving with each game. The captains did a terrific job making sure everyone was at the right court at the correct time ready to play.

Our All Star Girls team will compete again later in the year in the Regional Finals. Congratulations to all the students who took part, you're all superstars and I'm very proud of you. Keep shooting hoops !
