TOBACCO FREE SCHOOL/NO SMOKING ON CAMPUS

The federal and state governments haveadopted various anti-tobacco laws that re-quire schools to have adopted and fully im-plemented tobacco-free environmentpolicies. As required by these laws, the LosAngeles Unified School District has prohib-ited smoking and the use of all tobaccoproducts on all school and District property.

COSTS AND FEESAll costs and fees must be paid in cash only.

Registration FeesThe LAUSD Board of Education has autho-rized the collection of a $25 registration feeper semester. Exempt from paying the regis-tration fees are the following classes, pro-grams and students:

RefundsRequests for refunds must be made by thethird class meeting and must be accompa-nied by the paid receipt. Processing takesapproximately four weeks.

A $10 Drop Fee for each trans-action will be assessed.

To receive a refund, the student must returnthe fee card and/or receipt before the thirdclass meeting.

Distance LearningThe ESL Distance Learning programs re-quire a $10 refundable deposit. The Par-enting Distance Learning program re-quires a $15 refundable deposit.

BooksMost classes encourage students to purchasea book. This is voluntary. Books are sold inthe main office or by teachers at branch loca-tions. GED preparation books (English andSpanish) and dictionaries are available. Bookprices are posted in the Main Office.

Student Body ID CardsThere is a $1 charge for this voluntary card.Proceeds are used for activities and servicesthat benefit all students.

Student Body HandbookThere is a $4 fee for the Student BodyHandbook for the Evening ESL classes.

Photo ID CardsThere is a $5 fee for this voluntary card. Pro-ceeds are used for activities and servicesthat benefit all students. Students must at-tend classes for two weeks to be eligible topurchase a Photo ID Card.

Closing of ClassesAdministration reserves the right at any timeto reduce the number of course offerings, re-duce the length of courses and/or reduce thenumber of class meetings due to lack of ade-quate funding or low attendance. Someclasses may become filled and closedprior to registration due to pre-registra-tion of continuing students.

UNIFORM COMPLAINT PROCEDURE

Complaints alleging unlawful discrimination or failure to comply with state or federal law inadult basic education, consolidated categorical aid programs, migrant education,vocational education, child care and development programs, child nutrition programs andspecial education programs must be made in writing and given to the District’s ComplianceOfficer. Inquire in the Reseda CAS Main Office for more information.

The Individualized Instruction Lab: Earn credits required to receive a high school di-ploma. This program is designed for students who are able to work independently throughthe use of programmed and individualized materials. The following courses are offered.Each course equals 5 high school credits. Enrollment is ongoing but skills assessment is re-quired first. Contact the Counseling Office. Hours are 1:00-9:00 pm M-Th and 9:00 am -3:30 pm on Friday.

Study at home and earn High School Credit in Distance Learning Parenting courses. Re-quires a $15 refundable deposit and an appointment once a week with the teacher. Twocourses are available. See page 11 for locations.
