ITP’s MA in Transpersonal Psychology is a two-year course of study designed for adult learners eager for an intimate educational environment, personal transformation, and preparation for becoming agents for change. The program’s professional objective is to develop open and compassionate graduates whose knowledge of transpersonal practices, scholarly arts, and relational skills prepare them for doctoral level study, enhancement of their current career path, and a change of professional direction.

The MATP program is designed to foster a community of learning that cultivates dialogue and an exchange of ideas. Faculty and students together explore new paradigms of learning, community, spirituality, creativity, and awareness. Personal experience is highly regarded and forms the basis by which students critique psychological theories and models.

Students are introduced to scholarship that both informs and transforms, and spans intellectual understanding, emotional intelligence, embodied knowing, and spiritual insight. They engage in experiential learning practices that embrace whole-person activities: applied learning, group activities, individual creative and reflective processes, and dynamic classroom interaction with world-class faculty.

The MATP is structured to allow flexibility of course load and hours of attendance. Students have the choice of taking only the required classes (7 or 8 units per quarter) and being on campus as little as one evening and one day per week or registering for as many as 11 units per quarter, enjoying our rich elective course offerings, specializations, and any or all campus services and events.

If you wish to focus your study in a particular area of transpersonal psychology, the MATP program offers a choice of three optional specializations:

Creative Expression uses multiple creative modalities for in-depth personal exploration and expression as well as for increasing capacities for creative thinking and doing in those communities we wish to serve.

Transpersonal Education & Research incorporates personal mentoring by ITP faculty engaged in leading edge research to help prepare students for applying scholarly skills within organizations and/or higher education.

Transformational Life Coaching provides students with the tools and training to facilitate change within a private coaching practice, with corporate clients, or as an enhancement to a current career.

The program is designed to prepare students for doctoral level study, in either ITP’s on-campus or on-line Ph.D. program.
