Term 4 Week 3 28th October 2019
Dear Parents,
A huge congratulations to Ms
Wild and all our students who
performed so beautifully at the
Anglican Spring Flower Show
on Friday. I received many
messages telling me what
wonderful ambassadors our
students had been and how well
received and appreciative the
audience was. It’s good to
know that students from
Gundagai South can represent
the school with pride and
present a wonderful
performance of exceptional
quality for the community to
enjoy. My thanks to everyone
involved and especially to the
students for your efforts and
enthusiasm.
Living History Presentation
Students and staff, together with
our visitors to the school from
Bongongo, Cabramurra and
Talbingo thoroughly enjoyed
the Living History Presentation
for all students last Monday.
Shane the presenter was
extremely knowledgeable and
presented the information and
stories in a very relevant and
understanding manner with
numerous artefacts to support
his vast knowledge. We were
very fortunate in having the
presentation last for the whole
day, as he continued sharing his
love of history with the senior
students after lunch. This was
appreciated by all. Thank you
also to Lianne for providing
everyone with our usual
delicacies from the canteen.
Year 6 Transition
Well done to our Year 6
students who attended their first
High School transition
afternoon last Wednesday. The
students were presented with
some sample lessons in English
and Maths to provide them with
some ideas and an introduction
to these subjects at High
School. Members of the
Gundagai High school SRC
were very efficient and helpful
in their interactions with the
students. This Wednesday the
students will once again travel
to High School, leaving school
at 1.30pm and catching the
buses home from the High
School, walking or being
collected.
Fun in the Park
A special thankyou to Lianne
Blundell and Kerrie Stewart
who conducted our ‘stall’ at the
Fun in the Park afternoon at
Mirrabooka last Friday. The
biscuit decorating proved to be
a great success with everyone
and it was nice to see many of
our students there enjoying the
festivities.
Grandparents Day – Morning Tea
We wish all the grandparents a
happy Grandparents Day today
and would like to acknowledge
the wonderful support they
provide to our families. We
hope that many of you were
able to come to school today to
attend our special morning tea.
A special morning tea will be
provided by Lianne. Thank
you once again.
Cricket
The first of our cricket lessons
for this term is being held today
with Will McGrath. Three
session will be operating for the
students between recess and
lunch.

Visitors – Early Years Engagement Program
On Tuesday morning we will
once again welcome our visitors
from Pre-School and Gumnut

some wonderful entertainment
from a visiting performer. They
will be presenting “Heave Ho -
off we Go” to all students there

covering the $600.00
The canteen will open on
Tuesday morning for recess
only from 11.15am – 11.45am.
All items will be 50c and will
include Banana Muffins,
Popcorn, Cheese and Crackers
and Fruit cups. Thank you
Lianne We look forward to both the
performance and our young
visitors. Thanks to Mrs Hillier
who is busily working on a
pirate theme for the day.
Visit to Uralba and Long Term Residential
All students will be travelling to
Uralba and Long Term
Residential to perform for the
residents this coming Thursday.
We will be travelling by bus
leaving from school at 11.30am
ready to begin at 11.45am.
Please wear your summer
uniform and girls dresses
please.
IT Work Placement
Next week, our school will
welcome Louis Lievens
to our school to complete an I.T
work placement. Louis is a
former student of the school and
has now started his final year of
schooling – Year 12 at Kildare
in Wagga. I’m sure Louis will
notice lots of changes which
have occurred since he finished
Year 6 in 2014. Louis will be
able to share his knowledge
about IT and assist us with
sorting our new laptops which
have just arrived.
Fence and Locked Gates
As the issue of student safety is
paramount and our new school
fencing was erected in order to
address this issue, it is now
necessary for us to ensure that
during school hours, our gates are
securely locked. Whilst this may
be an inconvenience for some, it
is necessary in order to keep our
students safe. Once our students
arrive at school, our lane gates
need to be locked and at the end
of the day, they are unlocked by a
willing student who has accepted
the responsibility for ensuring
this is done. At times, this may
be done a little later than
anticipated, however, I know you
will be tolerant of some small
inconveniences for the sake of
ensuring student safety. Thank
you for your patience and
understanding.
Kindergarten Transition Morning
The first of our transition to
school – Kindergarten 2020
days will be held next Monday
morning 4th November, from
9.15am – 11.45am. Anyone
who knows someone with a
school-aged child who is
considering enrolment in a
public school in 2020 is
encouraged to come along to
our first transition opportunity.
The children should bring a
piece of fruit for fruit break, a
bottle of water, hat and their
recess. Canteen will also be
open on this day. We would
love to encourage any parents
who are undecided to come
along, and have a look at our
school. It is surprising how
many people make decisions
about their child’s future
education and setting without
first considering and visiting all
options. This is what we
encourage at Gundagai South.
Our next transition days will
be Tuesday 12th November
from 9.15am– 2-00pm and
our third is a full day 9.15 –
am -3.15pm on Thursday 21st
November.
