A MESSAGE FROM LUCY

It has been another busy week at Cootamundra Public, with Parent Teacher Interviews being offered from all classes K-6. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who have been able to make some time to come in to discuss your children’s learning, goals and achievements so far this year. If you weren’t able to schedule a suitable time this week to meet with your child’s teacher, please feel free to contact the school to arrange an alternative time. This partnership with parents is something we value highly at CPS, and discussions through parent teacher interviews are just one way we can support the learning of every child at school.

MORTIMER SHIELD

Well done to our teams of students who competed in the Mortimer Shield this week. On the day our students played strategically, working as a team to achieve some great results. Our boys’ team made it into the Grand Final on the day by convincingly winning their matches 18-0 and 28-4. Our girls’ team also played well and made it in to the Consolation Final with a win 2-0 and a draw 1-1 in their second game of the day.

A huge thank you to Mrs Bunworth and Mrs Ronning for their supervision on the day, as well as to our dedicated parents who helped coach, run games and step in as referees on the day. Photos will be in the next newsletter.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL POSITION

The vacant Assistant Principal position at Cootamundra Public (made vacant when I stepped into the Principal position) has now been advertised. We look forward to finalising this appointment through a merit selection process and will be able to share the name of our successful applicant in the coming weeks.

CANTEEN POUCHES

It has been brought to our attention that some lunch pouches being used for lunch orders are in poor condition. The canteen volunteers would appreciate it if the Stickybeak pouches used by students could be washed out every once in a while to keep them clean enough to put food in. New pouches are available to purchase if needed. Thank you for your assistance!

YEAR 6 LEARNING LEADERSHIP SKILLS AT PEER SUPPORT

What is the Peer Support Program?

The program provides a fun and engaging environment for the students to address social issues. The Modules are designed to equip the students with skills to deal proactively with life experiences. The Peer Support Program promotes well-being, which encourages positive relationships, connectedness and a sense of responsibility.

How does the Peer Support Program work?

Trained Year 6 leaders, supervised by a teacher, facilitate structured activities with multi aged groups of 8-10 students.

Briefing and debriefing sessions, led by teachers, take place before and after each session.

Modules consist of 8 x 30 minutes sessions, conducted weekly.

This year the module that will be implemented by the year 6 leaders will be Moving Forward. This modules encourage children to recognise their qualities and strengths, acknowledge their achievements, identify people who provide support and to develop and practise a range of coping strategies.
