11 No designated dog area for swimming. Let's face it, everyone who has a dogand brings them down to the water, let's them swim. This is a reality. Let'sdesignate an area and we'll all feel comfortable when we visit the park. The parkshould be utilized by everyone.

15 At the back of playground. - kids can run directly to pretty river parkway ... Safetyconcern

    Jul 10, 2013 5:15 PM

16 Please do not create excess parking, that will attract a carnival atmosphere andmore travelling city groups that overrun the park

    Jul 10, 2013 7:54 AM

17 The park is terrible. This should be the main park in town, and yet the facilitiesare the worst I've seen. The town needs to upgrade the park to make it on par orbetter than others. You can have recycled components if that's the goal, but thispark looks like scrap.

    Jul 10, 2013 6:39 AM

18 Traffic calming overall is required. The corner of Niagara and St. Lawrenceneeds a stop sign in both directions and a proper crossing marked from theNiagara sidewalk terminus to the Park.

    Jul 9, 2013 12:42 PM

19 Bicycles + skate boarders rule the park. Pedestrians are NOT safe. SunsetPoint is a beach and waterfront park. NOT a cyclist speedway.

like they're supposed to. Most people are ok, but sometimes they'll run you rightoff the path.

22 Access to water at black rock is somewhat dangerous. climbing down over thelarge block stones is not good

    Jul 7, 2013 6:38 AM

23 Dogs not on leashes and cyclists not being considerate of pedestrians. The roadis wide enough for cyclist to ride on it - on either side. When there was a markedlane for cyclists no one used it!

    Jul 6, 2013 6:34 PM

24 No, the park is well maintained -the gardens & grounds are lovely, the garbage isemptied regularly - the beach is natural.

    Jul 6, 2013 6:57 AM

25 Access to the water at the west end of the park is difficult for an older personwith bad knees or carrying a bunch of beach stuff. I have to clamber down astone wall. More ramp access down to the water please. (I note that there is aprovision for this in the plan)

29 road needs repaving and all parking areas Jul 5, 2013 5:47 AM

30 The Enviro park is in serious need of a makeover! I have been taking my twinsto Sunset Point in the warmer months often since they were babies (4 yearsnow). Even over the last four years the park has fallen into noticeable disrepair. The structures seem unsafe the swings are the only area of easy enjoyment. The last time we were there, there were a number of injuries from kids becauseof equipment combined with a child's normal reference for play equipment.

    Jul 4, 2013 11:38 PM

31 The playground equipment is out of date and dangerous. I can't tell you howmany heads have been bonked on those metal rods at the top of every entry toequipment and every slide opening.

    Jul 4, 2013 6:07 PM

32 There is limited water access due to the low levels, but still, no encouragementto use the water

    Jul 3, 2013 4:25 AM

33 Walkways should be wider, needs bicycle racks. Jul 3, 2013 4:04 AM

34 The playground needs considerable updating with new features. It is looking oldand is boring for the kids.

    Jul 2, 2013 8:41 AM

35 Lack of BBQ's also the picknic tables need work. Jul 2, 2013 7:04 AM

    36 Needs a beach Jul 2, 2013 7:04 AM

37 It used to be a nice place to spend an afternoon, children could swim in thewater or play on the beach area...I may be speaking about 20 or so years agobut NOTHING has been done to make it a family favorite.

    Jun 27, 2013 10:25 AM

48 Abuse of the park by large family groups visiting from out of town who move andmonopolize picnic tables, monopolize fixed benches and chose not to use theavailable garbage containers - preferring to leave everything on the grass.Significant numbers of dogs running free at the main swimming beach (BlackRock) where the greater number of young children are swimming.

    Jun 27, 2013 9:25 AM

59 The lack of safety crossing the road from the Environment Park to thewashrooms.

    Jun 25, 2013 10:04 AM

60 Yes the roads are in terrible shape, need repaving badly, Also the basketballcourt needs to be repaved and fixed with new baskets, etc,

    Jun 25, 2013 7:24 AM

61 There is a need for more shade either via more trees or picnic sheltersthroughout the park. Glaring flood lights ruin the night time atmosphere

80 Too much parking on street. Jun 24, 2013 9:48 AM

81 Re-route the road so there is no vehicles between the play area & the water. Jun 24, 2013 9:35 AM

    Jun 24, 2013 8:11 AM

84 more garbage pickup needed on weekend nights. Jun 24, 2013 7:56 AM

85 It is very basic and not very well designed or attractive. As the water recededfrom the shoreline many years ago so too did much of its charm. The buildingsare dated and ugly. The basketball court isn't maintained. The beaches aren'twelcoming. The gravel area at Huron St and St. Lawrence is ugly and seeminglytoo large. The open grassy area next to that same gravel area used to be agood area to throw a ball around, but now has a large planter box inexplicablyplunked down right in the middle of it which limits the use of that area for

anything else anymore. Make an outdoor skating rink in the winter either in oneof the parking lots or on the park's open grassy area. Set up a ball hockey areawith fixed nets in the summer.

    91 sometimes parking Jun 22, 2013 8:37 AM

92 The potholes in St. Lawrence. The excess in road width. Lack of much to do atthe park. Nowhere to sit at the park. Main problem is that there is a definite lackof access to the water. Ideally, we would like an easier way to get down to thewater, relax comfortably and be able to just go in to cool off and have fun. Haveyou seen little kids bring their shovels and pails to the shale? Climbing over thebig blocks of water breakers is getting harder.

Q1. What would you suggest to make Sunset Point Park better?

1 Cart in truckloads of beach sand to put on top of the rock/shale areas. Ofcourse, maybe not right to the waterline as the sand would probably wash away.

    Jul 24, 2013 6:03 AM

    4 Gazebo for bands. Jul 20, 2013 1:10 PM

5 re-invigorate the Enviropark Add washrooms more parking traffic calming or re-routing of the road

    Jul 18, 2013 12:21 PM

6 make it bigger, take out the 4 lane road and make the park much bigger, full ofactivities for all ages.

    Jul 16, 2013 3:14 PM

    Jul 16, 2013 1:36 PM

    16 Splash pad!!!! Jul 10, 2013 5:15 PM

17 Please keep parking free Jul 10, 2013 11:55 AM

18 Since there is concern about children crossing from the park speed bumps withsignage both for drivers and caregivers should be adequate. The road does notneed to be closed. A washroom on the park side of road is needed.

    Jul 10, 2013 9:01 AM

19 It's perfect- perhaps a small swimpad or playground back from water for youngfamilies. The views and nature are the attraction. Please do not create excessparking or carnival atmosphere, that will attract a carnival atmosphere and moretravelling city groups that overrun the park

    Jul 10, 2013 7:54 AM

20 Fix the park. In addition, look at the trail in Parry Sound; great use of fitnessequipment along the trail to encourage fitness.

21 A path at the west end to allow children and seniors easier access to the water Jul 10, 2013 5:52 AM

22 Please narrow St. Lawrence street. If and when paving St. Lawrence, bury theutilities (Town has done so nicely in other redeveloped areas).

    Jul 9, 2013 12:42 PM

23 Having an area for dogs to run AND swim off-leash (so By-law doesn't give aticket for being off-leash) would be ideal. Perhaps at far west end which is veryrocky and not used as much by humans for swimming.

31 More events for children there during special events such as Canada day withbouncy castles, children's plays, children's music. It is a great space for kids torun and play and underutilized for our Collingwood townsfolk and our children. The downtown core seems to be the only important place in town for events andthere is never anything but strange people walking on stilts or a craft table. Kidswant to exercise, jump, play, laugh. The people on stilts are scary for some kids.I was disappointed moving from Wasaga to Collingwood this year that Wasagahas way more family friendly events and their Canada day is fun for the family, not just about walking down town. Boring for a 4 year old. We will go to anothertown next Canada day if Collingwood doesn't change.

37 A splash Pad by the water would be the perfect addition to not only sunset park, but the entire Collingwood Community. We spend more money on our dogs inthis town then our children and I think that it's about time we change that. Wedrive to Innisfil, Barrie and Meaford to use their splash pads rather than to ourown backyard because we are lacking in one. 24 ? Jul 7, 2013 6:38 AM

25 I have taken children under the age of 10 to the playground area many times andthey thoroughly enjoy it in it's present form. There has been a suggestion of asplash pad and I don't think that's necessary. The shale shoreline and low waterlevels are a perfect splash pad. I don't want a pedestrian crosswalk. Pedestriansof all ages need to look both way for their own safety.

52 OOPS - already put ideas in #11. Improvements to and expansion of theEnviropark to include water features. Additional seating and washroom facilitiesin that area. LIfeguard. Improve the crossing to the main park. I do not believethat the Enviropark should be connected to the main park by way or re-routingvehicle traffic as this will simply encourage families to camp out near the waterand parents will not be forced/encouraged to personally supervise their childrenon the equipment instead becoming a little more complacent, feeling that it is OKto let them wander to the Enviropark unsupervised - as long as they are in

17 I would be reluctant to walk anywhere late at night by myself. The park has goodlighting and enough housing nearby that it is likely safe. The trail in the woodsleading to town might not be however and I would like a sidewalk/path on theNorth side of Prettty River Parkway from Raglan Street to Sobeys as analternative route in the winter or late evenings. I think there should be a pushbutton pedestrian crosswalk at Niagara Street for the school crossing guard andothers wanting to go to the park.

Q1. Is there enough space, equipment, or features in the Park for the activities you do?

1 We tend to use the word ' park' to describe a variety of recreational areas. A truepark is a dedicated area with amenities for use by children of all ages. Therefore,Enviropark needs to be rebuilt, splash pads for all ages need to be added alongwith more washrooms . We also need organized parking for bicycles

    Jul 18, 2013 12:21 PM

2 Stations for pull ups, etc Jul 17, 2013 12:13 PM

3 Please do not increase parking or create a carnival atmosphere. Larger groupsand buses from the city ruin the special and intimate nature/experience ofscenery. They overrun and dominate large areas of grass and force out locals.

    Jul 10, 2013 7:54 AM

4 you could incorporate monkey bars at an adult height for pull-ups. Box jumpswould also be great at 20". Again, Parry Sound added fitness stations that wouldbe awesome here.

20 A lot of the equiptment is for older children. There are few things my 4 and 5year old can really do on their own. There is missing pieces and gaps up highwhich can be confusing for small children and cause accidents as well.

24 It would be nice to have more larger trees for shade. Jun 26, 2013 4:33 AM

25 need for designated areas for activities Jun 25, 2013 6:28 PM

26 The correct answer would be Yes, marginally. We use the "open space" item"g". It is important that this remain clear of permanent items like benches, signs, trees, shrubs, etc as we require 50 meter radius to safely launch and land kites. This works currently, as we can move a picnic table if required, but this is aproblem is said picnic table is tied down. The point : Please keep the "OpenSpace" OPEN.

31 Could have exercise stations. Jun 24, 2013 10:10 AM

32 Biking & walking on the sunset point trail is a bit of a challenge since manybikers do not warn pedestrians of their approach from behind. We should make ita law that all bikes have bells & that bikers use them as they approach apedestrian.
