fourth-place finish in this year's state tournament. “Blake was our general on the floor this year as he has been since I took the head coaching position two years ago. His leadership on and off the court is impossible to re- place,” Ethan coach Bryce Roth said. “He was able to create his own shot when we needed a basket and he con- sistently was asked to de- fend the best guard on our opponent's team.” Bartscher, who averaged 17.5 points and recorded 155 assists this season for the Rustlers, finished his high school career with 1,391 points and 522 assists. He has signed to continue his basketball career in the fall at Mount Marty. Johnson, a 6-5 forward, helped Platte-Geddes make a smooth transition from the Class A to the Class B ranks. He guided the Black Pan- thers, who participated in the 2013 Class A State Tour- nament, to the champi- onship game in the 2014 Class B State Tournament. “He led us in scoring and rebound, and just gives us a real solid presence both on the inside and the the perimeter,” Platte-Geddes coach Frank Cutler said. Johnson surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for the Black Panthers during the re- gion championship game and will look to add to that total during his senior campaign. He averaged 20 points and 9.6 rebounds this season. Williams was the lone player not a team in the state tournament to be named to the first team. He led the Warbirds to a 17-5 record, with averages of 22.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. “Lorenzo was a big part in the success of our team this season; he brought energy and excitement to the court every day,” Wolsey-Wessing- ton coach Gordon Hooks said. “The one stat Lorenzo is most proud of is his assists per game. He had eight games with double digit as- sists this season. Lorenzo is a total team player and that is why his teammates loved playing with him.” Williams, who was a all- conference player in the 281 Conference the past two sea- sons, scored a career-high 35 points, had 12 rebounds and eight assists in a 77-52 victory against Faulkton Area this season. He also had a career- high 17 rebounds to go along with 24 points and six assists in a 74-64 win in overtime against Wessington Springs. “Lorenzo is a great leader on and off the court,” Hooks said. “He is a very coachable player and an extremely hard worker.” O'Malley capped his high school career by leading Cen- terville to state tournament. The 6-1 guard is a two-time all-state player after earning honors on the second team a year ago during his junior season. “I have had the opportu- nity to coach some great kids over my 12 years here in Cen- terville; few have had the tal- ent, work ethic and leader- ship capabilities of Seamus,” coach Kory Muller said. “There are a lot of kids who try to become good players, but he put his heart into it and is recognized as one of the state's best basketball players.” O'Malley had averages of 19.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists this season for the Tornadoes, who finished the season at 17-9. “Seamus will always be recognized for his ability to score, but he did much more than that for us,” Muller said. Second team honors went to senior Andrew Ulvestad of James Valley Christian, junior Jordan Marquardt of Hanson, junior Andrew King of Arling- ton, senior Jack Huether of Arlington, senior Jake Ander- son of Parker and senior Tavis Burbak of White River. The third team was made up of senior Nathan Krog of Elkton-Lake Benton, senior Drew Planteen of Langford Area, junior Heath Schindler of Elkton-Lake Benton; junior Cole Paulson of Freeman, sen- ior Matt Rohrbach of Ab- erdeen Christian and senior Chayce Hall of Potter County. Logano, the only driver with top-five finishes in both Texas races last season, got his fourth career victory after leading 108 of 340 laps — six more than sched- uled. Team Penske joined Stewart- Haas Racing as the only teams with multiple winners this season. Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished last in a 43-car field for the first time in seven seasons after driving his car into the rain-saturated infield grass before it shot across the track and slammed into the wall in a fiery crash. He took the blame for the accident on lap 13 that also led to problems for Hendrick Mo- torsports teammate Jimmie John- son. Johnson had damage on the windshield and front left of his No. 48 car from mud and debris after the Earnhardt crash. Johnson was three laps down by time he got back in the race after his team worked on the car, and the defend- ing Sprint Cup champion also had an issue with a right-side tire be- fore finishing 25th.
