Now that the first phase of restoration isalmost complete, we need your help toconnect the canal to the River Severn

Opening the canal from Saul to Stonehousewill make Stroud & Stonehouse

canal towns once more

This will not only connect the Cotswold Canals to thenational waterways network, it will give local people andvisitors new things to do, both during the restoration andafterwards. The restoration will help build local prosperity, benefit the natural environment and secure the future ofa major industrial heritage resource.

The Cotswold Canals Trust expects to bid for around £15million, and to raise £5 million from sources such asvolunteering and fund raising. This investment will benefitthe local economy by engaging contractors and other localbusinesses. We want to work closely with a wide range oflocal organisations.

Four more miles (6 km) of navigable canal, including one mile of new channel; newcrossings of the M5, A38 and the mainlinerailway; six bridges repaired and four newones built; six locks repaired and two newones built.

A sustainably managed canal, for the longterm.

Exciting new ways for people to getinvolved in finding out about canals andtheir history.

Many new opportunities to volunteer, learnnew skills and find new things to do, forpeople of all ages and abilities.

More varied wildlife flourishing along thecanal and the River Frome: the need toconserve energy and act sustainably willdrive the whole project.

More people using the towpath and itsconnecting footpaths and cycleways.
