Restoring an image to the C: Partition using Acronis V9.0 (Build 3854) Bootable CD 1 Restoring the Image to the C: Partition Using a Bootable CD The following procedure explains how to use a bootable CD to run the Acronis True Image software to restore a system image from E:\System Restore folder to the C:\System partition when the system disk is not bootable. This procedure permanently deletes all of the material on your C:\System partition. Be sure to back up all important material from your C: partition before proceeding with this procedure. 1. Make sure the Acronis CD originally shipped with your system, (Avid part number 0010-09492-01 Rev A), or the bootable recovery CD created when following the steps in “Creating a Bootable CD” from the setup and config guide is in the CD drive. Turn the system off. Wait 30 seconds. 2. Turn on the system. The Acronis software boots from the CD because BIOS is set to look at the CD drive for a bootable disk before trying to boot from the hard drives. 3. When the Acronis Window opens click on Acronis True Image Home (Full version). The Acronis software will boot from the CD.

Restoring the Image to the C: Partition Using a Bootable CD The following procedure explains how to use a bootable CD to run the Acronis True Image software to restore a system image from E:\System Restore folder to the C:\System partition when the system disk is not bootable. This procedure permanently deletes all of the material on your C:\System partition. Be sure to back up all important material from your C: partition before proceeding with this procedure. 1. The Acronis software will boot from the CD.

The Acronis True Image Home window will be displayed.

Confirm the Acronis version is 9.0 (build 3,854) by clicking Help > About. If the Acronis version is OEM please contact On Air Graphic Support 800 639 7364 options 1,5,1, for the current Acronis version.

Click OK to return to the Acronis True Image Home screen. 4. Click Recovery The Restore Data Wizard opens.

5. Click Next. The Archive Selection screen opens. Note that the drive letters may not be correct as the replacement

system drive may not be formatted.

6. Using the left panel, select the “Clips” drive, (in some systems the drive may be called “Media” rather than Clips), and

browse to the System Restore folder. Navigate to the original image that was installed at the factory, (Avid Part Number)_Image.tib as in the screen below. If the user has created a later image and saved that image in the System Restore folder, that may be the best image of C:\System to restore. Acronis image files will have a True Image Backup extension (.tib).

Note: In the right hand pane of the window it can be observed that this partition should say System (C: ).

7. Click Next. 8. The Restore Data Wizard window opens. Confirm Restore disks or partitions is selected and click Next.

9. Select the partition to restore by clicking in the box next to System (C:) and click Next.

10. After a few seconds the Restored Partition Location window opens. Select System (C: ) and click Next.

11. Select the target partition to restore: System (C:), and click Next. 12. Select Active and click Next.

13. Select the partition size to match the system partition in your Deko 1000, Deko 3000, DekoCast, or Thunder.

Early systems have a 10 GB NTFS system partition.

Later systems have a 40 GB NTFS system partition

14. Confirm the partition size is correct for your system. Click Next. 15. When asked to restore another partition or hard drive from the backup archive, select No, I do not. Click Next.

16. In the Restore operation options screen, under Additional settings, confirm Validate backup archive before

restoration is not checked and select Next.

17. A confirmation window opens and asks you to confirm the information.

Do one of the following: Click Proceed if correct. Click Back to change information, and return to this location when complete and click Proceed when correct.

18. When complete, click OK, and close the window. The system continues to reboot to the restored image.

If the image restored is an image other than the factory image, confirm drive letters and partitions are identified as C:\System, D:\Graphics, E:\Clips, (or E:\Media). If the image restored is the original image, go to the Setup and Config guide for your system and follow the steps beginning with;

Activating Windows XP Avid always recommends that you periodically back up your system and media (clip) drives.
