BIOGRAPHY Jordan Austin was born and raised in West Des Moines, Iowa. Graduated Luther College, studying Early Modern European and Middle Eastern History, Creative Writing and Music; completing a four-year program in three years. After graduating, he went on to volunteer at the Iowa Goldstar Military Museum cataloguing veteran video interviews until being hired as Field Staff for Senator Chuck Grassley’s 2010 reelection campaign. The twenty-five counties of northeastern Iowa were given to him as his area of responsibility, and he organized volunteers in all those counties for events, sign placement, editorial writing and other activities. Upon conclusion of the campaign work, Jordan went to work at Scheels All Sport, starting as a part-time sales associate and within a few months was promoted to a full-time position as a Specialty Shop Manager. Here, he was responsible for all the aspects of business from sales and merchandising to markdowns and purchasing of product, and brought the two departments under his care from both of them being ranked twenty-fifth in the company (out of twenty- five stores at the time) to top five positions within six months. While at Scheels, he also pushed for additional responsibility within the bike department and undertook learning about many products on his own time to better manage his departments. Jordan decided to make shift in careers after about three and a half years at Scheels, leaving to go back to school. After determining that school was not the best option, he took on two part- time jobs until he can begin the next part of his career, and is looking forward to the future. Barnes & Noble, West Des Moines, Iowa, August 2014 - Current(Receiving) 25-30 Hours Serve as a Book Seller and provide customer service by selling product to the public in the store. Manage the backroom as one of the two people versed in the procedures, maintenance, and organization of the receiving department. For the book store to operate economically, there are many important functions that are highly organized and must be performed quickly and efficiently in the back room. Product (i.e., books, games, notebooks, calendars, gifts, music and DVD’s, toys and games, display tables and shelves, etc.) arrives several times a day and must be sorted, categorized, prioritized, and distributed throughout the store. I also assist in the placement and organizing of displays on the floor.

Scheels All Sports, West Des Moines, Iowa, October 2011 - June, 2014 (Softline and Lower-Midlines Sales Specialist, Specialty Shop Manager) Managed two men’s clothing shops, which were chosen to be the display standard for the entire company for four quarters of our operating year. Received, opened, organized, and displayed all product for those shops, as well as handling all ordering and markdowns for my departments. Took the shops I ran from bottom of the company to top five positions within six months of taking them over. Brought in two different clothing brands on my own initiative that became top sellers and were adopted by the whole company. Assisted in managing the bike and bike clothing departments, which were the highest ranked of those departments in the company. Lobbied my way into assisting the bike department and became an expert on five different product lines on my own time. Started as part-time Sales Associate and was promoted to the full-time Specialty Shop Manager Position in March of 2012.

Grassley Works, Iowa, May 2010-November 2010 (Field Staff for Northeastern Iowa) Organized events and volunteers for 25 counties of Northeastern Iowa for US Senator Charles Grassley’s re-election campaign. Managed 27 and sometimes more volunteers spread out through those counties to organize events, place yard signs, and to write letters to the editor. Continuously took direct action for completing tasks, and was very hands-on as there were many events within my territory. On average spent three days of the week traveling around the counties to help keep in touch and to keep things moving.
