Pastor: This is the day that the Lord has made; People: let us rejoice and be glad in it. Pastor: Christ has risen from the dead. Alleluia! People: God the Father has crowned Him with glory and honor, Pastor: He has given Him dominion over the works of His hands; People: He has put all things under His feet. Alleluia! Alleluia! CONFESSION OF SINS Pastor: Even on this joyous day of celebration, let us not forget that we are sinful people who do not deserve the precious gift of salvation that God has given us in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. People: Lord God, heavenly Father, we approach You today in deep conflict.

We are filled with sorrow for our sin, yet we are overwhelmed with the joy of forgiveness. We confess before You and before one another that we stand unworthy before You. We have fallen. We deserve only Your wrath and punishment, but we intently seek forgiveness in the name of Jesus. We place our faith and trust in Him and the blood Christ shed for us on Calvary's cross. Forgive us our sins and empower us by Your Spirit to live the life You have called us to, in the name of Your risen Son. Amen.

Pastor: Rejoice and celebrate, children of God! God in Christ Jesus has opened the tomb, destroyed death, and silenced the grave. God is faithful and joyfully gives the gift of forgiveness. Your sins are indeed forgiven by the love, by the blood, by the stripes, and by the glory of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: E Amen.

THE FESTIVAL INTROIT Pastor/Choir: He is risen, Hallelujah. Why seek ye the living among the dead? Hallelujah.

Remember how He spake unto you, Hallelujah. The Son of Man must be crucified and the third day rise again. Thou crownest Him with glory and power. Thou madest Him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands. Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be. Amen.

THE KYRIE Mt 9:27, 15:22 LSB p. 186 People: E Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: Mighty Lord, Your own Son left the darkness of the grave to rise and show

forth His glorious body as the firstborn of the dead. As You have united us to the cross of Christ by Baptism, so raise us up to newness of life that we may recall our Lord’s resurrection with joy and live it out by the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

People: E Amen.

FIRST READING Acts 10:34-43 (Having witnessed the miracle of miracles in the resurrection of Jesus,

Peter now shares his testimony with others.)

34So Peter opened his mouth and said: "Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, 35but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all), 37you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed: 38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39And we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, 40but God raised him on the third day and made him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. 43 To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."

Pastor: This is the Word of our Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

EPISTLE Colossians 3:1-4 (We have been raised with Christ.)

1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Pastor: This is the Word of our Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL PROCESSION LSB 477 v. 1 E Alleluia, alleluia! Hearts to heav’n and voices raise:

Sing to God a hymn of gladness, Sing to God a hymn of praise; He who on the cross a victim For the world’s salvation bled—

Jesus Christ, the King of Glory, Now is risen from the dead.

THE EASTER GOSPEL Matthew 28:1-10 (The stone is rolled away.)

1 Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” Pastor: Alleluia! Christ is risen! People: He is risen indeed. Alleluia! GOSPEL RECESSION LSB 477 v. 2

E Alleluia, Christ is risen! Death at last has met defeat: See the ancient pow’rs of evil In confusion and retreat;

Once He died, and once was buried: Now He lives forevermore, Jesus Christ, the world’s Redeemer, Whom we worship and adore.

THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not

made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven; and was incarnate by

Page 7: RESURRECTION April 12, 2020 · may recall our Lord’s resurrection with joy and live it out by the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who

the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of

the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and

glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look

for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen HYMN “I Know that My Redeemer Lives” LSB 461 v. 1-2, 5, 7-8

He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives, all glory to His name! He lives, my Jesus, still the same;

Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives: I know that my Redeemer lives!

PRAYERS LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Following our prayers, it is our beloved practice to offer the Lord’s Supper. Part of the call of the pastor is to be the loving and generous steward of the mysteries of God.

It is a sacred trust. Since we believe in the real presence we are keenly aware that such strong medicine for the soul is for our good, but must be administered with great care.

Throughout the ages, people have been quarantined with no access to the Lord’s Supper. Instead, they meditated on the Word, and fostered a holy hunger. It was not that His Word—apart from the Sacrament—

was enough, it was in fact more than enough to strengthen them as they waited for communion, the coming together, the consummation.

Pastor: Alleluia! Christ is risen! People: He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

BLESSING Pastor: May none of God's wonderful works keep silence, night or morning. Bright

stars, high mountains, the depths of the seas, sources of rushing rivers: May all these break into song as we sing to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May all the angels in the heavens reply: Amen! Amen! Amen! Power, praise, honor, eternal glory to God, the only Giver of grace.

People: Amen! ~"An Egyptian Doxology" from the third century Church.
