My dear friends in Christ,
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, historically known by its Latin name Corpus Christi, celebrates the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist — Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. It originated in 1246 when Robert de Torote, Bishop of Liege, ordered the festival celebrated in his diocese. He was persuaded to initiate the feast by Blessed Juliana, prioress of Mont Cornillon near Liege, who had experienced a vision. It did not spread until 1261, when Jacques Pantaleon, formerly Archdeacon of Liege, became Pope Urban IV. In 1264 he ordered the whole Church to observe the feast. Urban’s order was confirmed by Pope Clement V at the Council of Vienne in 1311-12. By the mid 14th century the festival was generally accepted, and in the 15th century it became, in effect, the principal feast of the Church.
Last week, I explained the importance of our Parish participation in the Annual Catholic Appeal. This process is so vitally important to our Parish and for the continued growth of our Church and our Diocese. If you have already made a pledge, it is greatly appreciated. If you did not make a pledge in this year’s campaign, I encourage you to help by filling out a pledge card available in the Sacristy or by simply sending a contribution to the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL, 701 Lawrenceville Road, Trenton, NJ 08648. Please make checks payable to ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL.
Finally, we wish Father Raymond Lennon all the very best as he enters into retirement. Father Lennon has been here at Corpus Christi since 1975. Following the 11:30 AM Mass a light reception will be held in Bogdan Hall in his honor and to give thanks to this humble servant of the Lord.

Deacon Mike Hagan is announcing a required informational meeting for all current Altar Servers and any student who would like to become an Altar Server. You may choose one of two scheduled meetings: Saturday, June 9th at 2:00 PM or Sunday, June 10th after the 9:30 AM Mass. Both will take place in Bogdan Hall. The meeting should only be a half hour. A Training Class for Altar Servers will be at the end of June. Thank you.

As we close our 14th year, the Women of Joy will celebrate this happy occasion with a breakfast that will acknowledge all the summer holidays that remind us how fortunate we are to be living in this wonderful country. We will remember how God has blessed us in our freedoms by honoring the red, white and blue! Memorial Day honors our war heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us all. Fourth of July remembers the document that declares us a sovereign nation and Labor Day celebrates everyone who contributes day by day in the labor force to keep our country economically strong. We happily enjoy these summer holidays and pray that God will continue to bless us in safety and peace. “May the presence of God go with you and I will give your rest.” (Exodus 33:14) All Women of Joy, past and present, and friends are welcome to come to enjoy the party! As always, there will be great food, warm fellowship, laughter, song and our famous BASKETS OF JOY auction. Save the date, wear your red, white and blue and plane to be there. Info/directions?
