What is gravity and mass?

Page 7: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Gravity pulls any object on or near the

earth toward it without

touching it.

Page 8: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Friction is a force that is always created anytime 2

surfaces move or try to move across each other.

What is matter?

Page 11: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

All matter has mass.

Page 12: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

By changing any or all of these factors (gravity, friction, force

and mass) will affect the motion of an object.

Let’s look at how force affects the functions of a plane.

Page 14: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Thrust is provided by the propeller or jet engine of the plane. Thrust

acts to move the plane forward into the air.

Page 15: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

As the plane moves forward the shape of the wing (airfoil) causes a pressure difference that exerts an

upward force on the wing -- the LIFT force.

Page 16: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Gravity is the force that pulls objects back to Earth. In order to have an object like a plane rise

higher the lift force must be stronger than the pull of gravity.

Drag is air moving over a surface which experiences friction as the air molecules rub against the surface.

Forces which affect the function of a plane.

Page 19: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

It is possible to measure the motion of an object based on the distance it will travel in a

certain amount of time.

Page 20: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

What is the difference between velocity and rate (or speed)?

Page 21: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Velocity adds direction to the rate(or speed).

Page 22: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Rate (or speed) equals distance divided by time.

Page 23: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

What is the relationship of position, motion, direction

and speed?

Page 24: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

If position, rate of speed or direction change it will change the

time you will reach your destination.

What is an axis?

Page 26: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Axis is a reference line drawn on a graph (you can measure from it to find values).

Here is a graph with an X Axis and a Y Axis.

Page 27: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

A graph can be created using one axis to represent the

distance that an object travels, and the other axis to represent the period of time the object is

traveling.

Page 28: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

It is easy to create a graph to help you see the relationship between distance and time.

Page 29: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Time is always plotted on the X-axis (bottom of the graph).

Page 30: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Distance is plotted onthe Y-axis (side of the graph).

A distance-time graph tells us how far an object has moved with time.

Page 32: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

The steeper the graph, the faster the motion.

Page 33: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

A horizontal line means the object is not changing its position - it is not moving, it is at rest.

Page 34: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

A downward sloping line means the object is returning to the start.

Page 35: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

What is the relationship between force and motion?

Page 36: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

The greater a force, the greater the change (in motion)

it produces.

Page 37: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

What is the relationship between mass, force and motion?

Page 38: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

The greater the mass of the object, the less motion will occur

if you are using the(same) force.

Page 39: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

Force equals Mass times Acceleration.

Page 40: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

If one part of the formula changes it will affect the outcome.

Take sometime to review the vocabulary for

Unit 1.

Page 42: Review Force and Motion Lesson 7. Congratulations! We have finished Unit 1 Force and Motion. Now it is time to review what we learned

In our next lesson we will take a test on all the information we

have learned in Unit 1.
