Any country has its own national geodetic coordinate system and it is very useful in all survey activities. Accuracy of this kind of system is very important in every aspect. In Sri Lanka, systematic triangulation began in 1857 and it was recomputed with some additional observations in 1890 due to inconsistencies occurring mainly in the minor triangulation. But later found that the new fixing values has serious error. A new horizontal control point network was established in 1999 and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology has used for this. Thirty two (32) old network points were included and other old control points were not included for this new system. But these old control points were also included to calculate transformation parameters to the local datum to new horizontal network. But new system and old system gives different coordinate values for same control points.
