[The pupil should form the habit of associatins; a cluster of events about eachdate. Tt is a good exercise to write a series of dates on the board, and call uponthe pupil to name the events connected with them. It is a higher task to trace

out the logical connection between events, and to fix the relative influences ofindividual plans, national character and local circumstances.]

Period I: Discoveries.
