Playing with the Majors

The Golf Council will sponsor several raffles and fundraisers in the pro shop which will begin in April. There are a variety of leagues forming to meet the needs of all caliber players. Check with the pro shop for further details

Raffles, Fundraisers & Leagues Forming

Green CommitteeChairman Jon File

In an attempt to increase participation in tournaments and to prolong enthusiasm for the entire golf season, the Committee and the Council are announcing a program entitled River House Points. In essence, anytime a member participates in a River House approved tournament, he/she will accumulate one River House point. Additional points will also be awarded to the first

Our new owners have gone to great lengths to improve the course. The Council wants to remind members to be good stewards and please fill divots with sand on the tee boxes and fairways, as well as repair ball marks on the greens. We are going to have a course that we can be proud of so let us all help to maintain it!

regularly. The top point finishers will have the opportunity to choose a major gift at an end of the season dinner/party. The person with the most points will pick first.

Nancy Howie and Audrey Webber are co chairing the 9 Hole Ladies League this year. We have some new activities as well as some ideas to expand the league to meet the needs of all levels/interests of play. You do not have to be a golf club member to play in the league. We are looking at a 9 Hole League which will include a traditional 9 hole group as well as players interested in playing a par three course. The traditional 9 Hole group will play by the regular rules. The par three players can play a shortened course with relaxed rules. We will shotgun on Thursday mornings at 9:00. We hope many will stay after play to eat and socialize.. If you think you might be interested- GREAT! If you are not a member of the golf club it will cost you $25 a week to play. In addition, there is a $35 seasonal fee, which includes our end of year tournament, prizes, luncheon, and awards. If you want to try us out before joining our league, you may do so and play with the league once at the $25 charge. You also will need to talk to Dan in the pro shop about establishing a 9 Hole handicap. Par three players will not need one.

Chef’s Favorite Recipe Strawberry Shortcake.

• Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, 2/3 cup white sugar, and

salt in a mixing bowl. • Pat in cold butter with a knife until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

(If desired, place flour mixture into the work bowl of a food processor with the butter; pulse several times to cut butter into the flour mixture. Transfer mixture to a mixing bowl, and proceed.)

• Stir in buttermilk until the flour mixture is moistened. • Drop 1/3-cup scoops of the dough 2 inches apart onto a prepared baking sheet. • Brush biscuits with heavy cream and sprinkle generously with sugar. • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. • Mix together the sliced strawberries, 1/4 cup white sugar, in a large bowl.

Allow berries to rest until juices develop, about 15 minutes. • Serve the biscuits with the strawberries with juice over the top • Decorate with fresh whipped cream and garden mint

3 cups all-purpose flour4 teaspoons baking powder1 teaspoon baking soda2/3cup white sugar1 teaspoons salt3/4 cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into pieces

1 cup buttermilk2 tablespoons heavy cream8 cups sliced local strawberries1/4 cup white sugar2 oz Gran Mariner or Orange Liquor

I am a big supporter of Local Farmers. It might cost a little more and yes, you might have to meet them on the side of the road somewhere for a

pick up, but it’s worth it! Just as an FYI, I am fortunate to have not one, but 2-two- great horticulturist as owners; Peg Fitzgerald (Master Gardener) and Kathleen Hargrove (My Green Thumb) on board. They are planning and getting ready to plant a raised bed -“Chef ’s Garden” right out our kitchen door! Kathleen and Peg will plant herbs that I will incorporate into my cooking. I am so excited! There is nothing as tasty as just picked herbs! Getting back to the Local Farmers, I will be using as much as I can all local products on my menu. And as the produce becomes available the menu will change to reflet what is absolutely the fresheest in season! I will let you know what farms I am buying from, so you can visit and enjoy their local produce. I know that they will appreciate your business. We are so lucky to have many great farms and resources literally in our own back yards! To be able to enjoy the taste and health of fresh grown or caught foods is a real pleasure of living on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. If at any time you want to know more about a recipe or where and how I create a dish on my menu, please, just ask me, or pass your name and question on to one of our fantasitic servers, or email me at the address below. I will do my best to get back to you in timely matter. Enjoy the beautiful spring, and remember to eat local and support your local farmers! Come visit, you belong! Like the keel of a ship, Mande Bridges guides the River House at Easton Club. With

confidence she ensures that it will arrive safely at its destination. Mande provides stability, oversight and balance and keeps the River House on an even course. Mande is the go to person, the human resources guru, the accounts payable and receivable expert, the office manager and the “Mom” to whom everyone runs when they need an answer.

Since January 2010, Mande has been employed at The Easton Club, start-ing as a part time employee in human relations and quickly becoming an invaluable full time superstar just six months later. Her easy disposition and hard work ethic have kept the Easton Club afloat, through stormy and fair skies, and now she reports optimistically “There are blue skies ahead for the River House, we are going big places”. From her office located on the second floor, above the River House Restaurant, she said recently, “The whole atmosphere has changed, with new customers and members becoming more involved, the new owners are great, engaged and filled with good ideas.”

Mande sees the employees working well together as an essential component of the success of the River House operations. “It is vital that everyone knows the beat, is well trained in their area of expertise and can back up another employee if needed. There is a real energy here and it is a pleasure to work with staff.”

When not at the River House, Mande is first and foremost a ‘Mom’ to her children Tiffany, Robert and Dylan and a Grand mom to 14 month old Haiden. She and her husband Bobby live in Cordova. Mande is involved with Chapel District Sports where she serves on the Advisory Board. In her spare time she enjoys knitting and reading.

The River House is fortunate to have Mande and is thankful for her guid-ance, perseverance and for keeping thing on an even course. The wind is up, the sails are full and the River House is going places, thanks in part to Mande Bridge!

DiD you know?

That the Easton Club Homeowners Association has administrative offices located on the second floor of the

River House?Mrs. Mary Jo Simms, Administrator, keeps the homeowners abreast of all of the wonderful events and

happenings at the River House. Thank you Mary Jo!
