There was a certainrich man who had

beautiful clotheswhich cost lots ofmoney. He dressedlike a king.

The rich man also ate very well. Every meal was likeagreat feast. Hehad so much money he could buy

anything he wanted to eat for breakfast, lunch,supper -or for in-between snacks.

At the gate of the rich man's house there lay apoor, sick, starving beggar. His name was Lazarus.

Poor Lazarus was full of sores.He may have had a disease. He

may have had cuts and bruisesfrom others being mean to him.Maybe he had soresbecause hedid not have good food like milk,vegetables or meat.

Lazaruslonged forfood. Hewould have

been happywith thecrumbs

from therich man'stable.

Stray dogssometimes

padded overto the poorhelplessbeggar.They sniffed

around himand lickedhis wounds.

It seemsnobodycared that

Lazarus wasstarving.

One morning,Lazarus did

not wake up.The poorstarving,friendlessbeggar had

left this life.Lazarus wasdead.

Joy began for Lazarus themoment he died. Jesus said angels

carried him to be with Abraham. Lazaruswas comfortedby God.

The rich man also died. All his money could not savehis life. When death came, nobody could stop it.

The rich man wasburied. Perhaps it was a largefuneral. Perhaps people praised the rich man forbeing clever and successful. But their praises didnot help him. Therich man was in Hell.

In Hell, the rich man cried, "Father Abraham, sendLazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in

water and cool mytongue; for I am tormented inthis flame."

"In life you had everythingand Lazarus had nothing,"

Abraham reminded the richman. "Now Lazarus iscomforted and you aretormented. No one cancross the great gulfbetween you and us."

"Send Lazarus to warn my fivebrothers," the rich man pleaded.

"Your brothers have God's Word,"Abraham replied. If the five

brothers would not believe the Bible,they would not believe if Lazarus

came back from thedead.

When Jesus finished the story of the richman

and Lazarus, perhaps the religious

leaders

asked themselves, "Do I loverichesmore than Ilove God?"Now

This Bible story tells us about our wonderful God whomade us and who wants us to know Him.

God knows we have done bad things, which He calls sin.The punishment for sin is death, but God loves us so

much He sent HisSon, Jesus, to die on a Cross and be

punished for our sins. Then Jesus came back to life andwent home to Heaven! If you believe in Jesus and askHim to forgive your sins, He will do it! He will come and

live in you now,and you will live with Him forever.If you want to turn from your sins, say this to God:

Dear God, I believe that Jesus died forme and

now lives again. Please come into my life andforgive my sins, so that I can have new life now,and one day goto be with You forever. Help me

to live for You as Your child. Amen.
