It was rather quiet in the buildings during the summer months as the custodial
staff worked so hard to make the school buildings and grounds look spectacular.
Thanks to each of you for all your hard work. A big thanks to the office staff and
teachers who also stay busy behind the scenes to have everything in place for the
students as they walked through the door for the first day of school. August 23rd
was a day to celebrate as many smiling, energetic children
again filled the halls of TRE and St. Mary’s bringing life
back into the buildings. We welcomed back 177 students in
grades K-6, and we will welcome about twenty new pre-
schoolers on September 5th . We welcome the many new
students and parents/guardians that have joined our TRE
family. We are excited to have you here, and please know
that you can call or stop in anytime. Also, welcome back to
our returning students and families, it is great to have you back.
We have many wonderful staff members that work together as a team to educate
our children. I am grateful for such a dedicated staff and for the talents and
knowledge they bring to create a strong, well-rounded education for our students. I
would like to introduce the new team players that also have much to offer. Mrs.
Desiree Poehls is our new preschool teacher, Mrs. Robin Rivinius is teaching one of
the first grade classes, Mrs. Tina Meyer is teaching one of the second grade classes,
Mrs. Nicole Koegl is teaching one of the fifth grade classes, Miss Lindsey Kuntz will
be helping out as a para in the area of special education, and Mrs. Teresa Wiese will
be helping out in the kitchen. We are excited to have you join our team.
We are going to emphasize Richardton-Taylor Public School’s five core values
throughout the year. These core values are: honesty, accountability, integrity,
teamwork, and growth. We want our students to make these values a part of them-
selves so they can make a positive difference in our schools, our homes, our commu-
nities, and beyond. Please encourage your child/ren to live these values. We will
also be working with the Zones of Regulation which will teach the students how to
self-regulate which should help them behaviorally and academically.

As the 2017-2018 school year begins, I
want to remind all parents/guardians,
whether your child attends at St. Mary’s
or TRE, to call the office at TRE (974-
3585) if your child/ren are going to be
absent from school or if there are any
changes regarding your child/ren’s nor-
mal arrangements for going home. It is
important for us to know if your child/
ren are to stay at school for an event or
if you or someone else will be picking
them up after school so we can make
sure the bus drivers know. If we are not
aware of any changes, we will make sure
your child/ren follow their normal rou-
tine.
Please remember that we have some stu-
dents with peanut and other nut aller-
gies so please avoid sending food to
school that may contain any type of
nuts or nut products. Remember that
the snacks that you send should be
healthy. We will be serving fresh fruits
and vegetables on Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday again this year starting
September 5th .
Remember to check out the TRE
webpage. The webpage is connected to
the Richardton –Taylor homepage, and
it will contain a lot of important infor-
mation along with a weekly calendar.
This would be a good place to keep track
of the activities for TRE. Our Parent/
Student Handbook is under revision and
will be sent home with your child/ren as
soon as we have them printed. Please
take time to familiarize yourself and
your child/ren to its content when you
receive it.
There are many important sporting
events and other activities such as the
Changing Program and picture day com-
ing up so please check the calendar in
the newsletter. Parents, if you are look-
ing for a way to be involved, we have a
parent organization called PAWS that
does many great things for our students.
It is a great way to support our school.
We also have a group of wonderful vol-
unteers that come in on Wednesdays to
assist with copying, laminating, and oth-
er tasks for the staff. If you would like
more information on PAWS or volun-
teering at TRE or St. Mary’s, please call
the office at TRE.
Thank you everyone for making last
year a great year, I am excited to contin-
ue serving as the principal of TRE and
to be able to work with your child/ren. If
you have questions, concerns, or celebra-
tions you would like to share with me,
please stop in and see me or call me. It is
important that we keep the channels of
communication open to benefit our stu-
dents. I look forward to working with all
staff, families and community members
to make this a another great school year!

Labor Day
This is my first year at Taylor, and I am
so excited to be here and have this won-
derful opportunity. While I am from the
Dickinson area, and a graduate of Dick-
inson High School, the past 20 years I
have been mainly in the southern United
States with my husband, Andy, and our
two children, Zachary (13) and Emma
(10).
While this is my first year teaching at
Taylor, it is not my first year of teach-
ing. After graduating from Minot State
University, I taught for a couple years
at a country school north of Minot. I
then went to graduate school in Moor-
head, MN for my special education certi-
fication. After graduate school, I taught
students with special needs in the Fargo
area, as well as in Arkansas, followed by
substitute teaching in the various states
the Air Force sent us.
For the past 12 years I have stayed at
home with my children while my hus-
band pursued his military career. We
are excited to now be back in the North
Dakota area where I grew up and our
children can have extended family in
their lives.
I have two cats, Oreo and Lottie, as well
as 4 horses. I love to hike in the
Badlands and go horseback riding. My
favorite food is chocolate and my favor-
ite books are mysteries (I can’t pick just
one). I also enjoy going to sporting
events and supporting my children’s ac-
tivities. You can reach me at the school
or via email. I will call or email you
back as soon as I am able. It’s going to
be a great year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Koegl

Food Service Program Update… Mr. Bautz
Page 8 September News
If you remember last year we increased the hot lunch fees, as well as reduced expenditures, to help reduce
the increase in deficit spending. As you can see from the chart, we were able to reduce the deficit spending
last year by $54,400. I would really like to thank the food service staff for a job well done. Thank you for
working with the administration to make this possible. Great teamwork everyone!
However, we are not finished yet. Our goal is to provide healthy affordable meals to students, and to break
even as far as the program budget is concerned. The food service staff is working diligently to provide
more homemade items, eliminate as much processed foods as possible, and reduce waste.
So, Kudos to the kitchen staff and administration for a job well done, and keep up the great teamwork in
our food service program.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Several years ago, the district identified 5 core values that are the fundamental forces that drive our actions.
They are honesty, integrity, accountability, growth, and teamwork.
This year we want to focus on teamwork, specifically on how to be a good teammate. By learning and practic-
ing what it takes to be a good teammate, we will automatically fulfill the 4 other core values. Who wouldn’t
want to have teammates that have integrity, are willing to grow, are accountable, and are honest?
JP Clark comprised the following list of 10 Qualities of a Great Teammate:
1. Lead By Example
a. The best teammates establish winning cultures through their own character, commitment, and work
ethic. They lead with tremendous effort in all situations as they set the example for their teammates
to follow.
2. Sacrifice Your Ego
a. The ultimate teammates set aside their personal agendas sacrificing themselves for the food of the
team. They accept their role and work towards becoming a star in that role.
Mr. Bautz….continued
Page 10 September News
3. Care Passionately
A. Great teammates are incredibly supportive. They are excited for your success and they always have your
back during times of struggle. The best teammates never let their individual performance affect their atti-
tudes.
4. Bring Out the Best in Others
B. Great teammates completely believe in their fellow team members. They know their teammates strengths
and position them to succeed. This total trust allows their teammates to perform with tremendous confi-
dence.
5. Communicate Openly
C. A great teammate connects with team members by personally investing in each one. They form strong rela-
tionships allowing them to lead, demand accountability, and keep the team moving in the right direction.
6. Be a Positive Force
D. A great teammate lifts the spirits of the group through enthusiasm and encouragement. Superstar teammates
have an energy about themselves that keeps everyone in the group positive and confident.
7. Show Respect
E. Great teammates are coachable. They hold themselves accountable as they are true team players. A great
teammate shows respect by li9stening, being on time, and having a good attitude.
8. Be Reliable
F. The best teammates can always be counted on. Day in and day out they follow through on their word. Great
teammates earn the respect of the group through their consistency.

Hello Raiders! We welcome all the new families that have joined Raider Nation in the Richardton-Taylor School District!
We are excited that school is in full swing. Students are learning and activities are beginning. Get ready for picture day.
Lifetouch will be taking individual pictures on September 20th, 2016.
Student-led conferences will take place a little earlier this year on October 3rd and 4th from 4:00-7:00pm. For those of you
that are new to our district, our students are educated and guided in leading the conference by presenting their grades,
projects, and learning level to their parent/guardian and also to their conference instructor advisor. Students gain presen-
tation skills through student-led conferences and also learn to take responsibility for their own learning during student-led
conferences. The student-led conference is by appointment. You will receive an appointment letter in the mail. During
conferences, teachers will have both the appointed scheduled times and also open times that provide time for you to visit
with specific teachers. Please review a teachers’ conference schedule posted on the outside of teachers’ classrooms when
you come to conferences so you are able to review times that would best fit your schedule in meeting with specific teach-
ers. The student-led conferences were moved early this year due to conflict with sporting events. October 3rd & 4th pro-
vides optimal time for you and your child/children to attend student-led conferences together. This earlier conference time
also provides a better understanding of your child/children’s progress at an earlier date which will provide better assis-
tance in how to guide your child/children success in school. It is mandatory for students to participate in student-led con-
ferences. If students and parents are unable to participate in student-led conferences, students are required to present
their learning material to myself, Dr. Vogle, to gain presentation skills and learn responsibility for their own learning. We
look forward to seeing you at conferences, however, if you have any concerns regarding your child/children’s learning,
please do not hesitate to call and set up an appointment to communicate with your child/children’s teachers. There will
also be a drawing for some Raider prizes.
I want to inform you that Richardton-Taylor High School takes a lunch count for the day and a breakfast count for the
next morning. Meal count is taken along with attendance at the beginning of 1st period every day. The cooks prepare the
amount of food sufficient for students according to this count. We want to provide enough food for everyone and at the
same time, not waste food. Food waste in the lunch room has been excessive in the past and we are trying to make the
lunch program more efficient. It is important if a student wants to be excused for lunch that parents/guardians excuse
their students for lunch by 9:00am. After 9:00am, cooks have begun preparing food.
The Richardton-Taylor High School connects with the community through Twitter and Facebook. Please join us online
to see updates regarding school learning and events. If you are a Twitter member, join us at R_TRaiders. Also follow us

Enjoy the month of September!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Page 14 September News
Our goal is to transport all students in a safe and efficient manner to and from school. In order to accomplish this, the
cooperation of students and parents is essential. The school bus is an extension of the classroom, and passengers are
expected to behave as they would in a classroom. Therefore, the bus driver is entitled to the same respect as given a
classroom teacher. Riding the bus is a privilege, which can be denied if bus regulations are not followed.
As we get back into the swing of things, here are a few important reminders for this year:
• Contact your bus driver directly if your student(s) will not be riding the bus. If you are on Route 5, you will need to
contact Harlow’s Bus Service at 456-0003.
• Bus drivers will not operate the bus over roads that are not properly maintained or on roads or driveways where
adequate space is not available to turn the bus around.
• Students are expected to be on time for the bus.
• Please communicate with the bus driver first about issues on the bus before contacting the school.
We look forward to another great year of safely transporting your students!
Sincerely,
Brent Bautz
