In early June I had the opportunity to go on the Citizenship Washington Focus trip in Washington, D.C.
with four other 4-H-ers from North Dakota. It was an amazing experience; the boy that went with us
said he liked it even better than his Close-Up trip that he had on gone the previous year. I became
pretty good friends with the four other kids I went with and we also got to see some pretty neat stuff.
A few highlights from the trip included visiting the National Mall, Mount Vernon, a few of the Smithson-
ian museums, and meeting North Dakota senators and representative. My favorite part of the trip was
the last day, because this was our free day. On that day we visited the Washington Monument and
went kayaking on the Potomac. This trip was an awesome experience and surely one I will never for-
get. I hope in the future that more 4-H-ers from North Dakota take advantage of this opportunity, be-
cause it is definitely one you don’t want to miss out on.

Gale Link “I was introduced to 4-H in 1986 when Ellen Skramstad, a long time 4-H leader, wanted to restart a club in Wahpeton called the Clover Patches. My two daugh-ters (Sarah and Amber) joined the club and before I knew it I was co-leader. In a very short time Ellen had convinced me to take over as the club leader. When our son Matthew was old enough, he joined the club too. I remained a leader for about 15 years.
I joined the 4-H Council in 1989 and served as treasurer for many years.
It has been my pleasure to serve as a judge in many Richland and Wilkin County 4-H events. It is always fun to see the progress that 4-H members make.”
Thank you, Gale!
