Spring is here! Deborah Esque of Law-
sonia Links Drive is chairing our Bent
Creek Landscape Committee this year,
and she is looking forward to the Spring
Spruce-Up Work Day scheduled for next
Saturday, March 27. After months of
what seemed to be our longest and cold-
est winter, why not spend some time in
the fresh air and sun, get some exercise
and help make our neighborhood look
beautiful. No landscape experience re-
quired…
Please bring your rake, clippers, work
gloves, lots of energy and community
pride and join us from 10:00—Noon
starting at the amenities center for wa-
ter and work assignments. Trash bags
will be provided, and the plan is to pre-
pare the beds for fresh mulch and flow-
ers and general clean-up.
Call Deborah at 779-5730 for more
information or send her an email at
The Committee meets the second Sun-
day of each month from 2:00-3:00 at
the amenities center. They would even
love participation from those with great
ideas who can no longer work outside!

Easter Egg Hunt
Mark the calendar… the annual
Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Sat-
urday, April 3rd. Children 12 years of
age and under are invited to bring
their baskets and join in the fun at
10:00 a.m. at the amenities center!
The Easter Bunny will be making a
special appearance again this year for
our Bent Creek children, and there will
be a bounce house, petting zoo,
prizes, and refreshments. The fun will
last until noon.
If you can help with homemade
brownies, cupcakes, and cookies, it
would be greatly appreciated. Cornelius
King has graciously volunteered for grilling
duty, and volunteers will be needed to stuff
Easter eggs and goodie bags. Plans are to
meet one night at the amenities center, so
watch for the sign. If you can spare some
time to make this year’s party a success,
please call Lisa Smith at 779-0425 and let
her know how you can help.

Hello! I am pleased to be writing this as your new
President and to help me
with that, I am happy to
have Rodney Keith serving
as secretary, and John
Smith serving as Treasurer.
As your new Board, we will
do all we can to make this a
great HOA.
There was a good turnout
for the Annual HOA meeting
in January and some good
discussions. One of the
topics had to do with break-ins and vandalism. While
we did not come to any con-
clusions at the meeting, I
do want all of you to know this is an ongoing topic for
the Board. The lights at the
entrance were our most
recent vandalism problem
– one having been smashed and the other sto-
len. We are working on
replacing those and getting
the parts to fix the lighting
timers.
We are also looking into
ways to discourage (and
hopefully stop) vandalism
and reduce crime in our
neighborhood. One of the
best deterrents is lighting
and for everyone to keep
an eye open for strangers
in the area and report any suspicious activity. That is
something everyone can
help with and doesn’t cost
us any money. So please, keep your eyes and ears
open and report anything
out of the ―norm.‖
We have a busy year ahead of us starting with the Com-
munity Clean Up Day, fol-
lowed by the Easter Egg
Hunt and then the Commu-
nity Yard Sale. As always,
we need volunteers to help
with these activities and
the more people we have,
the less time it is for each
person. There is more in-
formation about these ac-
tivities and how to volun-
teer in this newsletter.
One of the things the Board is working on is improving
our website. We want to
make this a place where we
can share information and are working on the details
of how to go about doing
that. So watch for more
news in the near future. In

I look forward to seeing you

Clean Up Day and the Easter Egg Hunt!

Friendly Reminders...
Speeding… seems to be an ongoing
problem here in the neighborhood, as
well as running our stop signs. As the
weather warms up, neighbors and chil-
dren will be more active outdoors.
Please be extra cautious, and if there is
a teenage driver in your house, please
remind them to slow down as well. It
only takes a moment for an accident to
happen, however, that moment can for-
ever change the lives of many.
Doggie doo don’ts… please don’t
leave a mess in your neighbor’s yard.
Remember to be polite and bring along
baggies to clean up any
messes your dog(s) may
make in yards or along
sidewalks. Help make our
neighborhood enjoyable for
all. And remember the
leash law. It may not be
that a neighbor just does-
n’t like dogs; it could be
they were once attacked by
a dog and are terrified.
RVs and Commercial Vehicles…
Cleaning or repairing your RV or commercial vehi-
cle? Call RE/MAX and let them know and avoid vio-
lation letters. Receive approval to have these vehi-
cles at your home temporarily.

Congratulations to
Jennifer Isaacson of
Lawsonia Links, this
year’s winner of free
HOA dues (selected
in a drawing during
the annual meeting).
Many thanks to Janet Marschall for
this quick and easy recipe. Maybe
the winners of the Fall Festival
Bake-Off will share their recipes!
If you have a recipe for a quick
meal or dessert, please email it to
Karen Koch for the next newsletter.
Ingredients:
1 can Eagle Brand condensed
sweet milk
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 8oz Cool Whip
Mix well and fold in:
1/4 cup chopped pecans
2 pints fresh blueberries or raspber-
ries
Pour into (2) 9 inch graham cracker
crusts. Refrigerate and enjoy!
Quick & Easy Recipe—Fresh Blueberry or Raspberry Pie
Again this year, we continue to receive re-
ports of some well-intentioned neighbors
feeding geese on the water hazards and
retention ponds.
Feeding the geese encourages them to
linger in increasing numbers, with a match-
ing increase in noise, messy droppings and
territorial behavior. Their droppings can
also spread disease to pets.
Representatives of Bent Creek Golf Course
confirm that the geese have been known to
damage the course.
Neighbors living close to water — particu-
larly along the 12th and 15th holes — are
fighting a never-ending battle with geese
which are being fed by residents in other
parts of the neighborhood. Linda Gaskin has
had some success with a creative tacky string
fence and
some spin-
ning pin-
wheels. And
rumor has it
she does a
mean barking
dog/spinning windmill routine!
Please be a good neighbor. Show some con-
sideration for fellow residents, and enjoy the
geese without feeding them.

Look who is visiting the Parkers on
Wolf Creek and Linda Gaskin on
Plum Hollow. Isn’t she beautiful...

Upcoming Plans and Activities...
Many of you may have noticed the ―Future Toll Road‖ signs that have gone up on Branan Field Chaffee
Road (also known as SR 23). Tolls won’t go up any time soon; in fact, there is no timeline at present.
However, the FDOT wants drivers to be prepared. Branan Field Chaffee Road is actually a part of a lar-
ger expressway project called The First Coast Outer Beltway, which will provide a connecting roadway
outside of the existing I-295 loop between I-95 in St. Johns County and I-10 in Duval County. For addi-
tional information, visit www.fdotfirstcoastouterbeltway.com.

Hard times? Contact RE/MAX at 278-2338 and discuss. March 31 is the deadline
for payment of HOA dues. After this date, late fees plus interest will be assessed.
