Rita Ribeiro was born in the state of Maranhão and after living in the capital São Luís, where she started her career as a singer, emerged as outstanding performance in Brazilian music in 1996.

In 1997, already living in São Paulo, she recorded her first CD titled “Rita Ribeiro”, produced by Mário Manga and Zeca Baleiro. The CD and the concert, after performances in several Brazilian capitals, brought nation-al recognition to this singer from Maranhão.

In 1998 she signed a contract with MZA Music, recording company of producer Marco Mazzola, and still under guidance of maestro Mário Manga, and launched in 1999 her second CD, “Pérolas aos Povos”, re-ceiving exceptional praise by both public and critics. In the same year, along with Ney Matogrosso, Milton Nascimento, Zeca Baleiro and Chico César, she performed in the Brazilian night of the “Montreux Jazz Fes-tival”, Switzerland, and was invited to perform at the “Festival Brasil - Caracas” in Venezuela, achieving great international dimension in her musical career.

In 2000, after the release and propaganda of the CD “Pérolas aos Povos”, Rita Ribeiro was invited to participate in the Festival “Todos os Cantos do Mundo”, sharing the stage with Lokua Kanza, considered to be one of the great exponents of African Pop Music. Still in the same year, she had her CD released in the United States and Canada by the record company Putumayo World Music, resulting in the realization of a tour between August and September 2000, through the main American and Canadian cities, among them San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and Montreal, to audiences of 15 thousand people.

The result of this enterprise led Rita Ribeiro to be nominated amongst the best in the world to the 43rd Grammy Awards, in the category Best Latin Pop Album, in February 2001.Still in 2001, the singer released her 3rd CD “COMIGO”, produced by Marco Mazzola, co-produced by herself and her partner Pedro Mang-abeira, and distributed by Abril Music record company.

Her popularity, always rising, increased by being the innovator of pro-ject “Tecnomacumba”, which resulted in a cultural intervention. The show was born in and resulted from presentations in a house in Zona Sul, Rio de Janeiro, and turned out to be an independent phenomena of the media. Rita Ribeiro had many seasons of big success and took the spectacular to the big show houses of the country. In 2005 she gained for this project the Prêmio Rival Petrobras de Música in the category of Melhor Show (best show).

Still in this year she participated in the Project Ano Brasil na França (Brazilian Year in France), by Projeto Pixinguinha, at the side of con-temporary artists like the saxophonist Carlos Malta and the composer Totonho O Cabra. In Brasil she was invited to participate in the 30 years celebrations of the Projeto Pixinguinha , which was realized by a serial of shows by the side of Tantinho da Mangueira of Rio de Janeiro.

In 2006 she released the CD, recorded in the Studio with the repertory of the show by the same name, except by the titles “Moça Bonita” and “Xangô, o vencedor”. But her fans always collect a live impression.

In parallel to this success Rita Rbeiro participated in other projects. By the side of Jussara Silveira e Teresa Cristina, she produced the show Três Meninas do Brasil, with the musical direction of Jaime Alem. The spectacular resulted in a DVD e a CD of this success, released in 2008 by Quintanda and distributed by Biscoito Fino Record Company. In the same year Rita participated in shows, by the side of Eduardo Dussek, being a homenagem to Carmen Miranda refreshing the acoustic reper-tory in the shows.

In 2009 Rita Ribeiro released as DVD and CD Tecnomacumba – a tempo e ao vivo, recorded in a big show no Vivo Rio, Rio de Janeiro, with a participation by Maria Bethânia and hás included in the extras statements by Alcione, Ney Matogrosso, Angela Leal e Jean Wyllys. The vídeo celebrates six years of the projects success, which continues to create curiosity e bringing each time more public to the shows.
