My dear friends in Christ,

We read today that Elizabeth's neighbors and relatives rejoice with her because God has shown her mercy in the birth of a son. In what should be a joyous occasion, confusion arises when she tells them that his name is to be John, which means “God has been gracious.” Zechariah has been unable to speak since the Angel Gabriel appeared, because, unlike Mary, he doubted the angel's word. But when he writes on a tablet “John is his name” all are amazed, and a great fear comes upon everyone. Fear, along with joy and praise, is for Luke the appropriate response to God's mercy. People ask, “What, then, will this child be?” But this question has already been answered by the angel. “He will be great in the sight of the Lord. He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.” Zechariah responds with praise in his famous canticle. John will become strong in spirit living in the desert until it is time to show himself to the people of Israel to preach a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. John did not want or need attention. His focus was on Jesus. He was the voice that cried out in the wilderness: Hear me! Listen! Behold, He is coming!

A special thank you to Bobby, Tiffany, Dave, Marty, and Bill for staying after the 11:30 AM Mass to help clean up a potentially disastrous situation in one of our hallway bathrooms. It is in these times that we see Church rally and come alive in our very midst.

Corpus Christi Parish offers an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our Catholic faith through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), a process which provides for the preparation of the Baptized Catholics who wish to complete their initiation into the Church through the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmations and Eucharist and the preparation of validly Baptized Christians from other faith traditions, who wish to be brought into Full Communion in the Catholic Church. In addition, preparation is also offered for adult Confirmation candidates—those who have been Baptized and received First Holy Communion, but are still in need of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION During July and August 2018

We will not be having Eucharistic Adoration of The Most Blessed Sacrament on the First Fridays of July and August, 2018. We encourage you, instead, to visit our Cohort, Resurrection Parish, Holy Name Church on Conrow Road in Delran, NJ 08075. Resurrection Parish offers Perpetual Adoration throughout the year and your presence would be most welcomed at any time of the day or night to visit Jesus in The Most Blessed Sacrament. Our Monthly Eucharistic Adoration will resume here in Corpus Christi Church on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM (this immediately follows the school Mass at 10:00 AM). This is one of the collaborative areas where we, as a cohort, can share and enrich our faith-life. Thank you and God bless.

CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS TO OPPOSE PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE

On Monday, March 12, the Assembly Judiciary Committee released the Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act (A1504). The bill will now be voted on by the General Assembly, possibly as early as June 7. The bill would allow physicians to prescribe drugs to end the lives of terminally ill individuals considered to have six months to live.

Please contact your state legislators TODAY and tell them that you oppose A1504/S1072. For an easy way to find your legislators and voice your opposition, go to www.njcatholic.org and click “Take Action.”

PARISH COUNSELING SERVICES Through a joint effort of the Diocese of Trenton & Catholic Charities, licensed professional counselors are available to help parishioners with difficult issues that interfere with day-to-day functioning. Service can be accessed by contacting your Pastor who will provide additional information and a referral. The fee is $75 per session. If needed, financial assistance for short term counseling (maximum of 6 sessions) is available through the Diocese of Trenton Parish Counseling Services.
