About INDIAN ANIMATION INDUSTRY
The Animation Industry in India though a late starter, is considered as one of the fastest growing segments of the entertainmentand media industry. The Animation Industry in India gained significance as an outsourced destination for animation work due tolow cost, skilled labour as its many advantages. In the recent past Indian animation companies and animation studios have beenmoving up the value chain to create their own intellectual property rights with Hanuman, Roadside Romeo, etc. and partnering
with international studios to produce animated properties for the global audience. Though a majority of the work done by theanimation industry in India is outsourced work, this is expected to change in the future with increased demand from the domesticentertainment industry. The Indian animation industry in 2007 was estimated at USD 0.31 billion and is expected to grow at CAGR24% to reach USD 0.94 bi ll ion by 2012. India is emerging as an outsourcing hub for animation and visual effects with large number of international media companiesentering into joint ventures with animation studios in India. Animation sector comprises of education, multimedia/web design,entertainment and custom content development.
According to the latest report released by Ernst & Young titled 'The Animation and Gaming Industry in India' reports that theglobal animation market is estimated at $68 billion in 2008 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10 percent to reach $100 billionby 2012. The quality of animation has improved with the incorporation of 3D effects to enhance the visual appeal. Another keytrend witnessed in global animation industry is the outsourcing of animation content to Asia.
Most of the outsourcing contracts in Asia are finding their way to India. The Indian animation industry can be divided into

Animation entertainment, animation education, customer content development and multimedia/web design and VFX. Customcontent development and multimedia/web design is the largest segment today, followed by animation entertainment, animationeducation and VFX, respectively.
